Over the last 2 days I sussed the river mulloway out. Not big boys but good fish from 50 to 67cm.

Landed between 2 of us 18 fish of which 10 were size. All on softies and all in dirty river water in the yaks surrounded by tuarts and green grass.

Some of the best fishing i have ever done for serenity sport and quality.

Give a man a beer and he'll waste an hour. Teach him to brew and he'll waste a lifetime.

Great going Rob - that would have been AWESOME fun - especially on light gear from a yak!

Cheers. Its taken a while to work em out. Spent a lot of time with live baits for a few mullas of simular size and a tone of US jobs.

Started to understand the river more (Collie) and worked out about tides and how the freshwater affects them. Also figured out where the deeper sections are. Best thing about this is i literally drive out of my driveway and drive through the back of the estate and i am at the river. We picked up a few bream as well but nothing of notable size.

The hole we were fishing is about 5m deep and i think the last meter if that is salt the layer on top is all fresh!

I was speaking to a marine biologist he said that these fish are about 2 years old and grow relatively quick at around 80 cm they then head off to the ocean. He also said if your gonna keep mullas they are probly the better size to keep.

There is some big boys in there too. Several time another bloke i know has hooked unstoppable fish that sit on the bottom and head shake then just cruze off straight into a snag.

Well dad decided that he wanted to get a mulla too. So he came down from Rocko early this morning to see if we could nab a few catch and release specimens.

Not wanting to hit the same spot up to much we headed further up river. We found lots of bream today of good size. I nabbed another standard mulla and then lost a horse that I struggled to lift off the bottom. I suspect i may have encounted a fish close to the meter mark.

Dad towards the end of the day also got his first softie mulla too!
