homebrewer not fishmonger

I finally made it away for the weekend to Albany to catch up with Trav and Colin. I had been postponing and putting off due to the trials and tribulations of building our first home and it was only the pre approval.... It ended in the sale of my boat and resentment towards selling it to pay for the house.

So with the pre approval stuff done and the deposits all paid. Off I went. Left at 5:30am to get to Albany at 10am was the plan but that went out the window with a coffee stop at colins for a chin wag and a some talk about muchadoaboutnothing. Cheers for the coffee and the ear. I have organized some small poppers for you to mate!

After that I departed to Albany and made it down there about 11am or just after. A quick trip into trailblazers and then into to town to get accommodation. Turns out most of Albany was booked out due to a cross country run but I managed to get a room at Norman House. A nice little bed and breakfast in the heart of town.

then I back trekked to catch up with trav to only find I had missed him and that he worked down the road from trailblazers...

So back into to town to get some food and off to the marina for a fish.

with a packet of squid I was on to leather jackets and wrasse. followed by some skippy and a tarwhine. then it shut down. but I had run out of bait and decided to head down to emu point to flick lures for whiting. The fish didn't turn up but I ended up losing a lure due to the knot catching on a guide. Called it quits after that and headed off to catch up with Megan and Travis.

Dinner was great.. Ended up with a weird conversation on pregnancy and fishing....... Organized a time to head out tomorrow only for me to sleep in....

We got out to west cape howe about 10am (as I said slept in....) and the skippy obliged. In large schools no bigger then 25cm but still good fuin on lightish gear (35lb braid is light right?) with a few being sent out as live baits.. Trav lost his and I ended up using my first as a fillet bait and then losing that.

I ended up with a bigger model sent it out near the edge of the sand bed. while enjoying a catch and release session of skippy and the odd herring. the skippy got nailed hard and it was on. I asked megan if she could film it and she gratefully obliged. a few calls where made while running around on the rocks. from a ray to a shark to a snapper and a sambo or even a YTK. I was hoping it wasn't a shark as a few times I could feel twangs on the leader like a tail slapping the leader but the runs of the thing! big powerful head shaking runs and then just cruising before taking off again doing the same thing. it managed to take me under the rock we were on. I gave it some line and it came out after some persuasion. then it popped up. My first land based sambo, my catana beach rod and 850 properly christened. A nice 113cm sambo. Expertly gaffed by Trav and hauled up the rocks.
A few pics where taken and the crowd that had gathered took some too. ( well only one bloke who came down to see what the commotion was) sambo released back with the swell and watch it right itself and swim away!!

With that we fished on with no more sambo's playing but Megan managed a small black arse off the rocks! Was very fat but way to small for a meal.

I'll link pics but internet explorer is gayer then aids.

From that we sat back and enjoyed the view. a few whales popped up and a school of bait fish got hammered by the birds. then I had to head home.

A very big thanks to Travis and his gf Megan for an awesome weekend and was good to get to fish and have a laugh and have a beer. Has been a long time coming to be able to enjoy a weekend like that in a while.

I will post pics and edit the video once the kids are asleep and post it up along with the pics that travis/megan took

Was great to catch up with you mate, although I was ready for bed as soon as I got home that arvo haha.

Would've loved to get you out to another one of my spots but I think I would've died with the walk, been getting lazy by using the boat.

You know the harder the slog into a spot is, the better it's going to fish :)

Your marriage will last longer if you take the cheese and kisses

Congrats on the sambo and first house. Sorry to hear about the boat.

Did anybody actually pay money for it or did you whip it into cash converters?

Just jokes old boy before you get angrier than a Scotsman with bull ants up his kilt
For every day that you don't pay, I'm gunna cut one of your fingers off
