Maiden trip in the new yak; Weather doesn't play ball. Squid do.

I picked up a second hand Hobie Revo 13 about a month ago, but family and work constraints mean I only got out for the first time last week. The forecast was for very light winds and fine weather, so I planned on launching at Port Kennedy and drifting around for some squid and whiting, with a bigger bait drifting for any stray pinkies. I got to the ramp and found it blowing a fairly stiff NW, and some nasty looking weather on the horizon, which got nastier while I was watching. i pulled the pin and went to Bunnings as the rain set in.

After browsing around Bunnings, I got a bit frustrated that I had spare time and hadn't blooded the yak. I ended up driving a bit further North and checked Safety Bay. Still pretty wet and miserable, but you don't exactly stay dry in a yak anyway, and the water was looking much more inviting. It didn't take long to get into the squid, with 6 decent sized cephlapods inking the deck in short order, all taken on an olive green Yamashita. And then the sun came out and the bite shut down, leaving me to race off to work.

Very impressed with the new yak.

Don't know what's going on with the pics. Haha Lefty, just a way of getting to some new inshore ground. I used to do well out of my small yak, these things are deluxe compared to that. They're so comfortable to fish out of. Not looking forward to getting eyeballed by my first white though ;-)
