Having read all the epic fishing tales from all you lads that always seem to be on holidays, Bazza has booked two weeks in December. Heading to Walpole for a fish safari.
Any tips much appreciated.
Is there any good reeef just out through the mouth of the estuary? Bazz has small tinny. Not venturing out too far in the southern ocean. No radio, sounder etc.

PlentY if ground outside the estuary and most of its in close too. Just gotta get that rare day when wind and swell is down. The rest is standard should be black bream everywhere and skips at the mouth. Use softies and lures over the flats for bream and flathead. If weather is bad head up the franklin or deep rivers

Pretty much what Goodie said.
Bream will hit hard on a rising tide over the flats then shut down.
YF whiting in the same areas so small poppers are good fun.
Huge Blue Spot flatties to a meter earthier side of the mouth but can be impossible to tempt.
For the rivers there are some good bream in between 100's of rats. River prawns will get them interested. Careful heading up through the river as the channel can change making the markers a "Guide" at best.
Of shore will be tough without a sounder but if you get a clear enough day you should be able to spot some broken ground and anchor up. Good place to use burley as blowies aren't an issue (normally).
Might be a little early for the crabs as they tend to come on after Xmas.

Are you staying in town or out at Nornalup?

Not bad advice from a south paw. Which forum did you copy and paste from?

Not sure about accomodation yet. Possibly the caravan park on the water

How is the pink fishing ensemble?

Pinks are out this season and metallics are in.
The place books out pretty quick so I'd get onto that soon.

You and Spence need to rethink the road trip junk food shots. The smart play would be a BBQ fish cook recipe type add on. Sh1t, you might even get a TV show...........except you have to have some decent fish getting pulled in

Take plenty of pics on your trip Baz.
Pics of the fish on the floor of the tinny are preferred for public safety.

And so baz has arrived for his first fishing holiday since meter easter in Darwin April 2012...where incidentally biatches, I caught and released 2 x meter plus barra.
So all work and no play makes Bazza a pretty cranky and ill tempered fisho.
....and arrived Sunday night. Sorted the camp. Awoke this morning to grey skies and howling winds....fark that. The evening has calmed off. Baz has the boat ready and the bait is thawing. Hoping for an early start should the weather gods be kind.

Day 2...awoke to grey skies and 15-25 knot winds. Hopes of a tinny trip into blue ocean were dashed again. Baz headed up the deep river for shelter. Tried lures...fark all. I have the patience of a young stallion with the prom queen topless in the backseat of the car. After mucking around with lures for the returns Fish gets on his outings in Bunners, Baz baited up. I caught about 100 20cm bream. I kept expecting a bigger model but none arrived. Good fun. All released of course. After hours of a fish every chuck, it was back to the inlet...weather was worse. Howling wind. A few showers. I managed a 35 cm blue spot flathead. Released. I tried avoiding the hezza but managed some by catch. Released the farkers. Found a swarm of cockney bream. All released. A very healthy estuary. Nothing of note day 2 but caught 100+ fish in a day of fun despite shite weather. Hoping for a glass off to head into the brunt. Time I bought a real boat.

Have a look at the Blue Holes track which takes you down along Bellanger Beach.
You can drive right along to the inlet mouth to check out what you'll be up against.

Wind has gone off tonight. Eerie calm. Raining still. Wind tomorrow supposed to be 10-15 knotts east/north east. Will that calm the southern ocean? I love deep sea fishing...not in a 4m tinny though. No radio. No sounder

Evenings sharks there to. It's just protected by Chatham Island so u can fish pretty much all the time. Mmmm judging by that forecast u could look out in the ocean sat arvo and if it doesn't agree head back in its pretty protected at the mouth. Don't worry about a sounder fish everywhere !

I know an old bloke who has fished Walpole for years, I remember he used to fish a spot called Skippy Rock or hole or something like that. I fished it as a kid and remember good fishing.Caught a variety of species including Gummy Sharks as well. We fished it from a tinny, I think it might be close to the Mouth as I remember there used to be a fair bit of current swirling around. So even in the estuary try bigger baits.

Headed out at 4am. Was a bit rough at the mouth. I headed back into the estuary. I caught some excellentflounder. The small bream and snapper are like plagues in the estuary. Nothing big. Hopefully will get into blue ocean next week.

Walpole update.
Baz headed out into the blue yonder today for a tinny session. Headed over to saddle island. No sounder so moved around a bit. Mulies were popular but lasted one peck from the swarms of peckers. Baz had caught some hezza on the way out to float a livie. Cur up the hezza into fillets. Not even peckers would touch hezza. Is there any use at all for those farkers? Jigged. Floated live hezza. No joy on the big stuff.. Assorted reef peckers for a feed.
All the moving around chewed up the fuel. As soon as the wind came up I farked off.
This was a good confidence builder for the good weather to come later in the week.
Back inside the estuary I managed some flathead and a flounder.
No KGs anywhere. I'm not sure if anybody else is onto them.
There was an article in the local rag that professional fishos have been hammering the fish just before holiday season. The local businesses think it is bad for the tourist trade. The estuary has been a little slower than previous trips.
Baz has overcome the tinny in the southern ocean head block. Will head a bit deeper when the weather settles later in the week.
Tight lines belters.

Nice Baz that first trip out and a bit of experience makes all the difference.

We did find inside of saddle island a bit slow we got a Queeny and some fox fish there. Good ground around and directly behind the next island out

Back of saddle island had little pinkys and queenies when i was there, lots of little pinks between the two islands.
Then front right half of goose island (as you're looking out to sea) is where i got most of my kingys and the two dhuies.

If you look further to the right and out from goose island you'll sea waves breaking on a little exposed rock, drops off fast around there, more kingys, black arse and harliquin there.

Last two days, the estuary has been smokin hot. Bream, big Skippy, occasional flathead and flounder....and the ubiquitous bycatch...hezza. big fat farkers. Still no KGs. Do the king George head into the ocean this time of year?
