Fish
homebrewer not fishmonger

I had been planning this trip[ for about 4 days but the weather was the big one that meant either I go or I don't...

While watching the Anzac leaving ceremony I chucked a couple of texts out and said I would be down after 2pm. Met up with BLOKe called fab and hit sinker bay and black hole for a dozen herring for bait. that well didn't end up as bait. Denamrk was dead but I did watch someone in the inlet load up near ocean beach.

Fab and I called it quits at 8pm. it was dark and cold and no fish made it boring. We parted ways and I went to go get me some din dins.

Fresh nani from Mad FIsh and chips. Ate ti then headed back to fabs for a couch to sleep on. Fab was nice bloke and runs fab fishing and tours down in Denmark. If I had more time I would def get him to show me around a bit and see if we can get some kg's and snapper.

I got hold of trav and trav said 630 his place for a trip to lowlands. Which ended up with a message nope weathers to good. we are taking the boat out.

Arrived at travs at 6am. a few pleasantries exchanged and gifts for a trip coming up. rods loaded into the 4by and drinks into the boat aswell as bait.

Headed down to hartmans to launch. the beach in some places is like Cervantes. you could take your car but best to have a 4wd.

so boats in and off we go slow and steady with an easily 3m swell floating there waiting for us. we cruised out to a spot that was a 60m drop... wtf!!!! still baits in the water and I rig up the 5lb for half a mulie floating behind the boat. :D

Bait hits the bottom and its a Sambo and a sgt baker. Baker is in the esky for bait and the sambo released. travs on with a breaksea too. next drop and its a double header of breaksea. one released and one in the esky. It continued on like that with the breaksea and we kept 4 but released many more. one with a tag too. it was tiny at 31cm but has tag number 55488 on its shoulder. same away strongly so its a positive. Although a vent right is on the cards.

Also if it wasn't breaksea on the line it was sgt bakers. big bastards. couldn't get away from them. Trav reset the drift and I got a sgt baker on the little rod. released and set back. next was a red snapper. stoked. trav got a decent harlequin too. Brilliant colours!!

Aftyer this trav switch to jigs, I followed suit with a marabou jig with a bit of squid on it. trav got a sgt baker on it and then a breaksea. While I got a breaksea and then a YTK. I got it to the boat where it had mates fighting for the jig trav put his jig down and was on straight away. trav lost his boat side but still he caught and was a good release. mine was just under at 59 but sent back. I got hammered on the drop and was on for a while. my little baitcaster was taking a huge hit and the rod was holding well! what a way to christen the whiting rod. took a good fifteen minutes to get it up and everytime it saw the boat it would power back off managed ot get it boat side for the third time and trav skillfully netted it. Measured at 71cm and released. After this I got sharked twice and trav once. he lost a wrasse? to a shark.

Trav bagged a few red snapper and I a swallowtail and another harly before the wind came up and it was time to head in.

Overall we had a good day out with a real mixed bag of fish and some excellent fights!

I am sorry trav I busted that alloy angle off too. that swell was not kind.

Nice haul...

I swear by those 'Vent Rights'.....honestly, forget the release weights and invest in one of these. Almost every time, they swim down hard. Breaksea particularly are great for this tool.

Fish off for the weekend drinking p1ss and fishing. (nice haul too by the way)

Little missus at home with the screaming bambino isolated from friends / family and fun. A tip from the Bazza, women turn into she devils if they don't get support and get a bit of time with the husband and a bit of their own time.

You need to keep the little woman in the Loop fish old boy........otherwise you'll be spending a lot of money on lawyers and seeing your kids every 2nd weekend.

Oh bazza,

The wife had been in Queensland for two weeks. I left with the screaming bambinos.
Btw her mum lives round the corner.

Those who fish with me over a weekend know that a 6 pack its all I drink.

She was informed of the trip and when I go away my phone rings hot with msgsfrom her.

She can't complain because she got fresh fish and Marron for dinner

Haha was waiting for that little rod to explode with that kingy, did very well with the abuse you were giving it.
Dropped a fair few fish between us as well, some very fishy water out there.

We had the swallowtail and one breaksea Sunday night then one of the reds last night... Going to have to get out again to stock back up.
