Shark Night

Went down to put some more hours in at a local beach in the hope of getting that elusive mulloway that has been teasing me the last few nights.

Headed off with my brother and arrived at the beach at about 5.30 to find the water looking like soup and the wind almost in our face. Oh well i kept telling myself as the sand whipped my legs, maybe this will turn the fish on!

How right i was! With about 30 mins a whole herring was engulfed by a hungry 48cm Taylor. Now this told me the fish were defiantly on as the beach usually only gets smaller Taylor as its quite calm. The wind had pushed the fish in to feed in the murky soup close to shore.

Got some more smaller Taylor which were promptly filleted and sent out to become bigger fish. Another 30mins goes by and the Stradic 8000 and NS Blackhole monster cabin zings off again. After a short fight in came my first LB Bronzie at perfect eating size.

More action came soon after while i was trunking my shark the brothers reel screams off into the darkness, 40 mins later and several calls of is it a ray or shark in comes a beastly 1.7 m hammerhead.

So no mullas but a good feed all round. The high tide was over by about 10 and all the action stopped.

Good night with a few firsts !

Now that's a good beach session, well done. Did you keep the Hammerhead or not? Curious how it tastes if you did. I've kept a few and some have been okay and some not so good. The Bronzie should be fantastic eating though. Yep the good old Herring is a good bait.

We kept the Hammer as it was buggered. Bronzie flesh looked great. The Hammer looks a bit coarse and redder but we will see how it goes

I dont mind it at all. Get it into the freezer and then get it into the deep frier for me.

One of the few fish i will gladly have fried.

Ate Patagonian tooth fish the other night, it was interesting
