Im proud to announce that my secret whiting spot hasnt been affected my the cockburn disaster. Even after I was selective in size, wifey and I bagged out in 50min. Im so happy. Finally rebuild my whiting freezer stocks for the xmas period. Downside, not 100% impressed with the new sounder. Granted Im not sounding at 25-30knots, but my old garmin sounder still gave me my depth. I would almost have to slow right down to a slow troll to get it working again. Im happy with it when it is working |

Nice work on the Tings. What's wrong with the sounder? Too much interference from the motor? |

I dont believe its the motor anything faster than around 20knots and it no longer reads depth. Then, I almost have to stop to get it to start reading, or say around 8knots, it can take awhile to start reading. Eg. I enter the 8knot area at the marina, it only started reading when I was at the 5 knot limit right by the ramp |

Maybe play around with the transducer height, the hds5 I had in my old 395 dart had no dramas reading bottom at 45kph. |

Do you slow down the picture speed when cruising? Thats what i do and get good readings at 30knots. When stopped crank the picture speed back up, flat out.

Yeah I think so, I think on my hds5 gen 2 that's it. Or scroll speed. Can do it in the driveway, just watch how fast the screen moves when you change it, you will notice straight away. When your anchored the screen should be moving fast so the echoes give you a true reading under the boat. But when you are travelling at speed you need to slow the screen down so the transducer has time to relate what its capturing. Some shit like that anyway, sounds good to me and works for me. |

Yes, dont do it for too long, I should of mentioned that. Just enough to see whats going on, or better still do it at the ramp. I play with my sounder while anchored up. I go through everything, I can now cruise along in a chop and set my sounder. Got it sussed finally! |

Ok, update. I managed to get the boat in the water today. I played with the settings but still no luck. She cuts out at approx 20knots. A couple time the sounder even restarted itself |

I believe in what Lefty said. You may have to reposition the transducer a little further away from the motor. |

As per the instruction. I believe it's mounted in the "best mounting location" |

you might have a dodgy wiring connection if it is restarting. hopefully you get it sorted. if you search on thehulltruth.com there was a small bit on the connections for either lowarance or raymarine where they ended up sending out new cables... |

I just spoke to the guy at whitworth. He mentioned to transducer position as well but not moving it away, moving it up or down more. |

Move it down more I reckon, my little garmin transducer is on a sliding mount if it's up too high it'll read perfectly at slow speeds but the screen fuzzes up and looses bottom above 25kph |

I managed to move it down about 10mm before having another test. Its improved a fair bit but I may lower it a bit more. See what happens. Before, I was loosing it at about 20 knots, Im now out to about 26 or 27 knots. It does sometimes read 0m depth for a secong, then it displays the correct depth |
