Hi all, Had an average trip to the south coast for the annual boys trip. Usually we just smash salmon left right and centre but this year the fish Salmon were very very quiet. Spent 2 days spinning for 1 salmon and then the wind wound up big time making fishing almost impossible. Last couple of days i spent by myself as mates could not commit to the full length of time. I tossed up leaving seeing as the fishing was so bad but decided to stick it out. Spent the last night fishing a lonely windy beach for Gummy sharks to no avail. So i got home and set the alarm for first light to spin for the Salmon one last time. Awoke to calm conditions and started to flick lures out on the Blackhole monster Cabin and Stradic 8000 when i noticed a bright blue shape in the water right near me! Holy crap i thought thats a blue groper! So after a mad dash to the car getting my hooks (I only bought lures down) and 20 mins gathering rock crabs i finally tempted my first LB Blue grouper to hit an unweighted crab. Made the whole trip worth while and came in at a respectable 7.5 KG Goodie Edited by Goodie, Apr 17 2016, 08:24 PM.

Persistence pays. Funny how "lucky" fisho's are the ones that put in the effort? Tick another box Goodie. |

Nice Catch mate! Sorry i didn't make it down, completely forgot about the trip due to multiple commitments and it was too late when i read your message to commit to 4.5hr drive. Went to bunker day before and cleaned up on school halfway between reef and rocks. No one fishing near me, they were all around the reef for a few stragglers. Caught dozen fish in half hour or so and went home. Dragging 4 fish up beach...not fun. Ended up losing 4 or so salmon up here at mewstone Saturday evening and gave up due to boat city and no schools, just stragglers. Caught 20 or so squid instead then went home. (mates boat). Still no fishing in my tub has occurred for 4 months and counting. Very depressing. And at work for next 9 days too. On a positive note, my reel was repaired after waiting for 4 months on daiwa to supply a part. Robbed it from a new reel instead. Cheers to compleat for this. Daiwa are reducing costs and not maintaining stocks. Painful. |
