So took the kids out today to Mewstone and the beach chasing herring's larger cousins. The day started slow after the soaking we had. Waited for the weather to clear and it was a lazy start at about 9am Headed out to north GI where we caught sight of a pod of dolphins doing spins and leaps out of the water in the wake of a tug boat. The pod was about 10. Kids were so excited. After the show we went to where I caught one a few weeks back but no luck so headed to Mewstone. Plenty of other boats out there having the same thoughts as me. And it was awesome watching them chasing and smash poppers and stick baits. The kids on the boat didn't have the knack of flicking the lures so I baited up whole Mullie's on gangs and let them be... And that was it for me..... As For the next few hours I was watching, rebaiting, unhooking, bleeding, releasing others. I did have a crack after they were worn out and wanting to go home. So I pulled out my Barra rod and flicked a whole pilly out. That didn't last long as I was on a fight for the next 10min. It felt the rod wasn't strong enough to pull it off the bottom. Doing its circle work under the boat. After I got him in the kids wanted to go in so we motored to Coogee jetty area where we played again with a few more. These were bigger than at Mewstone. Hitting nearly 80cm. All in all kept 4/9 landed. Kids had a ball Edited by Courtz, Apr 19 2016, 08:04 PM.

Yer excellent season this year. Boot's and myself ventured out last night for a quick session. The Southwesterly was a bit stronger than we thought and spent most of the time getting soaked (getting sick of the center console) we did finally make it to mew stones. trolled around, landed three and had a few more spit the hooks. Boots managed to get busted off. turned around for home just as the sun dropped.. |

Certainly Is. Netting restrictions are definitely working and helping rec fishers. Most of it goes to pet food and fertilizers anyway. Much more benefits in recreational space. Not sure how these industries have been impacted though. |

Recs have been made to compromise often enough. Good to get one back. Now if we can just get people to not make a mess everywhere (Ammo jetty/Woodies) we might get to keep them. |

went out the Monday of the Easter long weekend to Hamlin bay. Was very quite where i was fishing. saw a school of about 10 come busting in from out deep and smash the few blokes about 50meters down the beeach from me about 10am but that was it. an old timer walking down the beach said he hadnt seen anyone with fish after him walking 8km along the beach went out again 9th of april to eagle bay, just before first light a bloke next to me landed a nice sized fish on a mulie. About 8am i hooked into my first of the day while randomly casting a white 3oz ritcher plug i lost this fish as i got about keen and let my rod tip down a little during a jump and he spat the lure. about 830 or so a school of maybe 150 fish came busting along the beach about 10meters out. which myself and nearly everyone else one the beach using lures hooked up and landed a few fish each . they hung around for maybe 15min before turning back out to sea during this period it wasnt uncommon to have 5-6 fish following your lure in or following a hooked fish in. about 10am or so my mate had 1 fish following his pink richter in about 5 times. i took one flick out in the same spot and hooked the fish to my mates disgust. end of the trip i ended up landing 5 and my mate 2. all fish were between 750 and 850. |

Just got back from a 5 days in Margs and got stuck into a few salmon. Some big schools with dolphin and shark action. Good fun. Spence, I spoke to a pro's mate and he said they only fish for orders and but there hadnt been any. Not sure how long they havent had orders for tho. Next day spoke to an old fella who was the truckie for the first camp of salmon fishers at hamelin bay. Good to hear a bit of history on the salmon fishery. Anyhoo he reckons a NZ company bought the co op and now they import bait from NZ for the crayfisherman. Im not sure sure if thats good or bad but it means more salmon for us! |

went eagle bay saturday, was blowing a NE'erly at 29kmh. water was very choppy with 5-6 waves per set. no fish were caught during the 6 hours i was there fishing. 1 group of asian assholes had 19 fishing rods between 3 people till about 10oclock when all there mates showed up at which point they had like 50 rods between 10 people . they pretty much took up the entire beach and any time they thought they saw something would all go running down the beach with a rod each. assholes had baits out on light sinkers drifting down the beach that myself and my mate kept picking up with our lures. almost got mad enough to start cutting there lines, |
