Headed to the Five Fathom bank Saturday keen to catch a feed for dinner. It was slow going for the first couple of hours and with snag after snag and not a scale on board I was beginning to get frustrated. Pulled the pin and headed off to another area. Stopped at a mark and first drop pulled up a sargent baker, next drop foxfish and a skippy. Starting to get the feeling back and high hopes of a dhuy as those fish are always good indicators. Next drop Sambo about 5-6kgs and a lost fish (was a big one!). Go back around again and hook up to a good fish and got a nice little dhuy. Every drop was bringing in fish for a couple of hours, with more sambos and skippy hitting the deck as well as 3 or 4 undersize dhuies. Had a another big hook up but unfortunatley lost it again and from then on it went quiet. Got a nice harly after a few more drifts and that was it. Moved off again and tried a few more spots and picked up a sand bass, 1 king george and wrasse/scorpionfish for my efforts and then went in for a quick squid with only the one landed on the last cast for the day. Overall I was pretty stoked with the day. Not bad fishing for the five fathom bank! |

The 5 is still very underrated. Always had more good days than bad on it. Onya Numbskull |
