Howdy, been out most weekends lately and picked up a few nice fish from the FFB. After catching nothing all morning and with spirits low I tried elsewhere and found a honey hole which was firing with nice fish every drop! Was a great day with the smaller dhu released after the pic. Lost a thumper fish due to weak hooks as well as catching 3 good kg, nice skippy and 'just' undersize pinks coming aboard. As soon as I lost the big fish the bite shutdown and all I got from then on was sambos up to around 8kg till I pulled anchor. Edited by Numbskull, Oct 1 2016, 10:32 AM.

Went out for a squid and they were going off, was a bit quiet in the usual haunts so I tried my 'secret spot' and got into them straight away with 3 rods all going off regularly. Pulled in the boat limit of 30 and released about another 10. Daughter had a great time and she even made the paper a few weeks back (photo from different trip). Pic of a seal chilling out at the ramp. Edited by Numbskull, Oct 1 2016, 10:19 AM.

Pretty quiet trip this one and only got these small pinks and a few squid. Another lost fish (suspected big pinkie!) on the last drift was a disappointment after a hard day. After fishing hard all morning for not much it was such a high seeing the rod seriuosly buckle over but then the extreme low when the line wrapped around the rod tip on a headshake and snapped the line before I got to the rod. I think my rod was too stiff and the rod sprang back to quick causing slack line which looped around the rod tip all in the blink of an eye.

That's a nice fat Dhu there good stuff plus those squid are a bonus whether you eat them or use for bait. Also can't complain with the pinkies.Nice calm looking condition from the beach.

Haha lucky you with the weekend weather, can't remember the last good weekend here. It seems only occasionally on a week day to be slightly better. Makes it hard for people who work Mon-Fri. |

Looks like your FFB ventures are starting to pay off, make sure you don't hit up the honey hole too much, else there won't be much left in the future. Very nice MF pair of dhus there. Dropping the big one always results in a shutdown for me as well. Dominant dhu sulks, so do all the others. |

Shot out again the other day for an anchor berley + mission, which was a fail with only undersize snaps and blackbums. Decided to move and as soon as I pulled the berley pots and chucked a bit of old bait in the big sambo rod went OFF! Gave me some curry for 5mins and got this beast boat boatside. Got the tape next to him and he was 150cm give or take a cm. I tried to revive the beast but he fought to the death, which was strange as the fight was reasonably short on 100lb braid. Disappointed he didnt swim off i moved on to a new spot which ended up being a good move.

Set up a drift and picked up a nice snapper, then a decent little dhuey, then another, then a sambo then a thumper baldie which was gut hooked with the small hooks. 66cm and a PB for sure. Also picked up the target with a few kg's. Stopped at another spot on the way home and got another couple of pinkies. All fished released well except for the sambo and baldie. Awesome day. |

Went out this morning, got a few more kgs and man I wish the ban was over, got a solid pinkie 5 or so kilos and another dhuie about 7kg. Both swam off healthy. I might have to fish light gear all the time now. Didnt get any crays, got a slobby in one pot and it looked like an occy raided the bait from the other pot. Hard work for sweet fa at the moment. |

Im not a fan of light tackle fishing but Im defintely getting more hook ups. Forgot to mention I fought an unknown beast for half hour on the 6lb skippy rod till the leader wore through. With heavier gear at least you get an idea of the weight and the fight of the fish. Light gear you just hold on, all the while thinking that I just wanna get stuck in and bring the fish in. cheers fellas |

nice sesh Numbskull that sambo is a BEAST! having downsized my line ratings in the last couple of years ive had a lot more enjoyment. sure you lose a few unstoppable fish but the fight and landing a solid fish on light line is well worth it in my opinion. havent nailed my 10kg pink on 10lb yet but i reckon its around the corner. |

Personally i reckon if you go too light it takes the fun out of it. I like the brutality of heavier gear but saying that 100lb braid for king george is overkill. 50lb is just right! |

Looks like an awesome session mate, seems like a bit of a weak fight from that sambo usually would go like a steam train. Did you bleed it straight away? That usually helps a fair bit with the taste. I've just eaten Sambo the last couple of nights and it was alright. Nice feed of Kgs can't complain with them aye. Would've been fun still trying to land that Sambo solo. |

Sambo went hard as, it was pulling me round the boat, locked drag and hold on! Just a short fight. Nice to eat when smaller but not keen on big ones after a few bad fish.
