Heads up all, the Crays have officially started to march today. We got 9 from a few pots today, half were whites. Expect numbers to increase over next couple of days.
Get them out or bait up if you are waiting.

:D

correct me if I am wrong.....
whites refers to the colour of the cray just after moulting. they shed their skin and look a very pale red colour, hence the name white. After they moult they then walk for deeper water.

So, next question.

How do you go cray fishing?

Obviously with cray pots. How long do you leave them in the drink for? etc?

If you got pots in now you would want to try and check them daily as the crays are on the move. As they slow down then back off to every two or three days to replenish the bait.

G'day,
found this big fella in pot all by himself yesterday. The one beside him is a legal size cray.
I know this bloke who makes his own pots and sells them and for a small fee takes you out when you want on his old'ish cray boat and can pull them all by winch. Then in season, hang for a fish later.

The crays at Two Rocks are on the go. Went out this morning to pull the pots, first pot 36 crays and one occy. Kind of makes you think what numbers could of been if not the occy.

Good to see numbers, we're getting anywhere between 4-10 crays a pot off rocko, So should be full pots over the next week.

Whites, are Crays which have shed their shells in preparation for the march back out to the depths. When they march, they feed on the way, hence bulk numbers in your pots.
It usually happens in weeks leading up to xmas, which is perfect for us west aussies

How'd you go Jimbo? Keep your pots not too far away from big ledges/caves.

People are doing well in close and on the 5, not much happening out the back of the 5 at the moment. Shouldn't be too long before they'll start heading off the 5 and into the depths.

How deep you potting Scot? mines in 15m just out from pt peron. Not expecting much as its my first year trying.
Is there a back run like the salmon?

G'gay Numbskull,
I have been told there is a "back run" type thing. They say normally January but considering the cooler water temps and late march of the whites who knows when really.

We're in 12-20m, inside edge of the 5, back of GI. Though we've found a patch just on the 5, that's consistently been producing high teens.
Still bagging out each pull.

Put your pots on the sand, next to reef ledges. They'll walk out and feed on the sand.

It's only just begun, plenty of time yet. They aren't at full capacity yet.
