Yeh i've got it (LSS-1), though its not as great in deeper water. Good for trolling and spying on bait balls etc though. The clarity I don't think is as good as it seems on that post, as they'll be testing in fresh as well. However, so much to learn when using it! and i'm a total Noob still....hence don't like it too much yet....

I haven't fitted it to my new tub yet, no point. As like i said deeper water 20m+ it doesn't work so well and i've been in 40-80m of water. Technology has a bit to be perfected yet i think....not far away from a new type of sounding in the coming years I reckon.

However need multiple screens, the dual screen on the 5"/7" isn't big enough. Doubt the 10" with 4 split would be big enough either....kinda have to choose between priorities (Sounder or Chart or Structure Scan)

they are testing the ls2 which does seem to fix the issue and yeah down to 10 to 15m (35ft by the looks of it)

Also a huuuuuuuge new cat is going to be living in mandurah in 6 week. twin 350 and 33 ft. F**k should be an awesome ride

Thanks for that link Fish. We've had structure scan on the HDS8 since Friar got the new boat in June. Have never really utilised it as the results were not very exciting. Only time something nice came up was when we went over the D9. That looked great.
Lots of tips there on how to maximise the returns. Will try a bit harder to work it out i thinks. Some of his results are excellent.

Spence youre right about the split making the pictures small. on the HDS8 you either have it split screen or nothing. but i like having chart and sonar as priority so structure doesnt get used. way too many $$ to start talking about multiple screens until a bit later me thinks. In a bit i think we'll end up getting a dedicated plotter to free up the sounder for structure and sonar.

we have never had anything even close to this clarity....
clicky

Gentlemen, take it from someone who's spent the money on the promise of LSS-2 SS - IT IS CRAP!!!!
In fact, I am about to ask Simrad for my money back, as I am too ethical to sell it to an unsuspecting fellow fisher....LOL!!

Gday. Humminbird starts with structure scanm around the 1400 mark. depends on the deals at the time. I think its great for the bream/shallower stuff for sure. My lookin into it lead me to look at side scan for checking wider patches of ground of deeper water but my pockets weren't deep enough at the time....
