Headed to Bluewater's Squidgy night with Steve Starling on Tuesday night. Was a good night with some new things for me try. Starling seems like an ok bloke too. Anywho. The real reason for heading in there was the purchase of my new flats setup. I picked up a 2500 Rarenium CI4 ($259) because i wanted the spare spool and its drag seems damn sweet for its relatively good price. Matched it up with a Azusa AIS 702L-SK ($225). I havent owned an Azusa rod before but F**k me that thing can bend. Tim put the tip to the floor while i held on tight and it felt so very fine. Also a nice whippy action which i hope will get the surface lures working nicely. Put 4lb fireline on it so it should cast a mile and give me plenty of working room. Havent loaded the spare spool yet. Im thinking 20lb for a light plastics outfit. Pinkies on a 2500? yes please! I hope this rod works out nicely. Hoping to test it out on my day off Thursday with either a wade in Mandurah or a bream session somewhere. If anyone is free this day and wants to head somewhere or needs a deckie then hit me up with a PM. Cheers Wookiee Edited by Wookiee, Mar 23 2013, 08:46 PM.

Nice bit of kit there Wookiee. Love the rareniums. 10-12lb would be plenty for the 2nd spool. Gotta remember it will break at more like 10-12kg. |

that sounds like a dream Wook! but as lefty said. No point going heavier then the rating. a good quality 12 pound braid might have a true braking strength of 20 pounds anyway. |

Was spewing I wouldn't be in town for the Starlo Squidgy night, the blokes a champion and I woulda loved talking placcys with him...bet it was brilliant too! Killer outfit Wookie, money well spent I reckon. Agree with the boys too, 12/15lb is plenty for the pinkys. Have used a 2000 Sienna for a few plastics pinkys and you won't have a problem, a good 2500 will do the job fine...not sure how long they can put up with that sort of use tho! Haha! Good luck breaking it in too. |

Nice set-up 12lb sounds like heaps on the spare spool, good 12lb will stop a lot of fish. |

Finally got out to test the new kit yes'day and goddamn what a difference having the right kit makes. Went for a wade and conditions were piss poor to say the least. windy, weedy and murky water making visibility almost zero. Straight away the real difference was making those walkers dance on the water. so much more action with the lighter rod and the lighter line. Got a couple of herring which went nuts and were a nice little test but no whiting. Only saw one little school because i almost stood on them but they were small. Trying again tomorrow if i can get my arse out of bed in the morning before work. |
