With all this snow here in the UK I've not been able to get out fishing, so hit an auction today just for something to do.
Stoked I did coz I found a wicked item that I was gonna get at any price!

Scored a 20th century 3 piece split cane flyrod in great condition, came with 2 other tip sections that look like different weight ratings so you could effectively have 3 different weight rods, a nice wooden box for it all and a couple ancient flys to boot. Can't see a brand name on it so guessing it's possibly handmade/homecrafted? but regardless, it's a gorgeous looking thing in really good nick. Plus I've never seen nothing like it!

The best part...due to the snowstorm that prevented me from fishing not many people came to the auction. Which meant I got it for a bloody song... ;)

Can't wait to find out a value on it but even if its worth squat, its some beautiful craftmanship from a very talented fly angler, and a classic piece of angling history. :) :) :)

Old school cane would be awesome to take for a run.
You'll have top cred anywhere you rock up with that.

I pick it up tmw, didn't want to leave it in the ute tray while it was snowing on the way home! I'll def take pics and bang a few up on the forum here, with my photography skills they're sure to look terrible but you's will get an idea of the rod anyway.

Geez Leftman...should I use a rod thats over 100 years old you reckon? Be great to use it (you know how I love oldschool!) but terrified I'd break it or something...
I'll have to find an ancient fly reel to match now! Give me something to do while this snow boxes me in anyway.

I understand anything above single figures is a fortune to you farmers Grot, but really mate it wasn't that much.
Besides, only a REAL angler would appreciate it, like Bryce...

Nice work Mic ,as with all thing's old [I would know ] treat it gentle ,its a different style of casting not as forgiving as carbon/glass ,I had a old green-hart 16 foot double handed salmon fly rod ,my god you would know after a day using that brute ,nice work on the auction you never know what you find at them ,a friend of the family went under protest with his wife to an auction to buy furniture and came home with a mile and a half of the river Dee at Overton for the reserve price one and a half grand ,the jammy git then sold it in London three years latter for twenty odd ,

I got the pipe part sorted K1W1...can I sew an AC/DC patch on my Tweed ya reckon?

Righto Rob, I'll trust ya mate and take her for a spin. Next problem, finding out what weight line she takes!
GEEBUS! The River Dee!!! Be worth a schmotza now...guess he made a killing on it anyway. Expensive place for a day ticket nowadays!

Picked it up, have taken pics, will upload em now. :)

Now I have it, I've worked out it's a bit different than I first thought. It's actually a flyrod that converts to a spin rod as well! In fly mode it's a 3 piece, with what I think is a spare tip section. But if you reverse the cork handle butt piece, it converts into a 2 piece spin rod, ha!
And it looks like someone has pocketed 4 of the 6 flys that came with it, only 2 left, told it must have happened during viewing on auction day...meh, wouldn't have trusted the hooks anymore anyway.

Enough dribble, crappy pics as promised. Pics are...The kit, in fly mode (3 piece), in spin mode (2 piece with fly sections laying next to it).

Few more. Butt section in spin mode, and reversed for fly mode.

Can't fish the Pit Rob without 3 members nominating ya and a season ticket! Trying to get a lift out to Bewl tho, told it's an hour and a half from here and Dad-in-law has shown interest...fingers crossed! More snow on the way too god damn it.

Cheers Wookieman, got an antique's restoration mob over here sorting a price for a full birthday on it, I reckon it deserves it...whether it's top shelf or not. Got it for 38 quid/$50 ish AU, but we'll see what the final damage is when I get this quote back.
