A mate saw a group of 4 of these together the other day in the river.
Im thinking dusky morwong, anyone got a positive ID?

By the look of the pic is was a fair way up.
Some of the mullet get very big (50-60cm).
That would be my first call without looking to hard.

nah not a mullet, the markings are way off.

I think a dusky morwong is a pretty good guess without it being out the water to view properly.

definatly not mullet the marking and colours around the face and eyes give it away as not belonging to the mullet family. i was thinking a koi...

Theres more reports of these chiclid species getting into the rivers....... Could be one of them? Some grow to 40/50cm in the wild. Different species of course grow different sizes. Wouldnt think morwongs would be so far up river..... More of an open ocean/reef species. My opinion tho!

I think SAS was mentioning something about a few chiclid being caught in the Upper Canning during the Swanfish. Bastards throwin' out their pets in the river.
I live with fear everyday, but sometimes she let's me FISH!

Yeh that is true Hixy, always a problem with people releasing aquarium fish. Though they can't survive too well most of the time i would think come winter. But i'm no environmental scientist.

Doesn't look that far up the river to me. I'm thinking Roe Pt? Seen similar fish in the shallows at Pengo a few years ago. Thought they were queen snapper?

yep its a bit of a mystery, im putting the fish at bigger than 50cm. I think he said it was point Roe.

I wish FishMike was still around, im sure hed know what it was.

Found a half dead dusky that woulda gone 8kg or so, not sure how big they get.
