Those of us here who still use bait. Anyone looked at the prices and gone F**k that? $5 for 200g of coral prawns might aswell head down to coles and by banana prawns at $16 a kg and use them instead... Tis a joke BCF. |

We used a bag of raw king prawns on the boat which were left over after chrissy, the fish out wide went nuts on em. Haven't really bought bait for ages. Edited by Tones, Apr 28 2013, 01:35 PM.

If prawns are your thing then buying the fresh ones from the supermarket is the way to go,fresher and cheaper. We use whole prawns on a circle hook for pinkies,do very well. Otherwise you cant beat freshly caught bait. |

$3 squid jigs get me all the bait I use. When you start comparing it to Sp's, jig heads and lures it works out about the same sometimes. |

I just use mulie pieces for my small fish mostly, then use the small fish for bigger bait. occasionally buy some occie Very occasionally buy the fresh prawns from the supermarket to. Also use the baitchaser jigs to catch fresh scalies occasionally to so don't actually buy bait too often. |

Sort of off topic but... The Old boy said he used to use butteries as a kid. They would fillet out the spine leaving the head and 2 fillets as a single bait. Anyone else heard/tried this? |

Got mullas on butters last year lefty. Had nothing else to use so we had a couple out live and they worked no problems. But the croaks did seem to take anything that month. Dont hesitate to throw one out now but as soon as something else comes along they get changed. I guess if its edible something bigger than it will chew it down. |

He used them as Snapper bait. Might give them a go. Not as though there is any shortage of them or they're hard to get. |
