Im in the process of doing a product switch between one type of card to another. Currently on the Westpac Platinum and changing to a westpac black card. The benefits are an extra 0.5 points of top of the 1 point per dollar spend which goes to my qantas card. If your a frequent air point traveller like myself, the best deal Ive found so far is 2 points per dollar through Bankwest. Minimum 8 grand limit and you need to earn over 65k pa. I found this deal after the change process with westpac, but will be changing to this once this part has gone through |

FIFO mates of mine do Amex for that reason. Just not everyone accepts it. |

Yeh can be a pain, also the extra fees. I got the Diamond on commonwealth for all the extras like Free Travel Insurance, Free insurance on purchases, Concierge services when you're overseas and the extra points to buy meaningless crap for free like Microwaves, Wii's, Home Appliances. haha It costs me $200 pa due to free upgrade for being a loyal customer, but well worth it in the long run. |

After a little more investigation it looks like the Westpac black is where I may stay The com bank 3 points and wank best 2 points are points but not flyer points. If you convert them, it's like the old one point to one dollar and with com bank, it's not even that |

From the phoning around that I've done and the long time on hold, their are different reward programs. I'm after the qantas flyer points. I am a frequent flyer The com bank 3 to 1 points can be transferred to s dollar value off flights but when you convert them to flights. It doesn't work out better. For example A return flight to Auckland, not in peak period and excluding taxes can cost anywhere from low 800 to 1000 It takes 50,000 points for a return fright. With the com bank 3 points, you can convert them to air dollars. 150,000 points converted to air dollars is a pinch over $800. That's good if you find a flight on the low end but if the price is higher then you still need to pay more out of your pocket So with the old scale 1 to 1 equals 50,000 and a return flight for Westpac With the co bank 3 points 150000 divide by 3 equals 50,000 points but in turn is 800 air points dollars The Westpac black is 1.5 points per dollar 50,000 points at 1 points equals $50,000 spent 50,000 points at 1.5 points equal $33,333.33 spent In practice you can double dip like I do and makes for less spending Edited by red hilux, May 4 2013, 02:53 PM.
