I bought a rod tube. It's. rectangle shaped shimano one. I can fit my small rods in it but the bottom guide on my 12 foot rod is too big to slide into the tube! Oh well. I have lots of rods so I guess I will just get another one. Anyone know of somewhere online to get a good price on one? Also do you guys load them bitten first or top first?

I don't know how to do that. Wouldn't the rod be designed like that or a reason anyway?

All the guides do is keep the line away from the blank, because it causes friction and you lose distance.
A smaller guide would be ok but it would need to be set off the blank by a bit, so it depends on how much it doesnt fit in the tube by. If its heaps then no point.

rayannes.com.au is a pretty good place to buy online from, not sure what the postage cost would be tho

Just got a 7 foot live fibre rod tube. It's not bad and I can fit. All my important rods in it. All happy now. I haven't been having much luck the past week. Broke he green arrow, and now I just snapped the bail arm on my 950ssm. The plastic part. It's only about 8
Bucks but its the mucking around!! Hopefully one of the tackles shops have a spare. If not I'm stuck with no decent reel to chase bigger fish while in gero

lefty what do you have inside your tubes? i woudnt mind constructing something similar as the 80 has a cargo barrier so internal transport isnt going to happen.
Ive seen one fella who had 4 internal rubber tubes running the length so the rods wouldnt rub and bounce. Was pretty neat but i was just thinking leaving the rods in their bags??

As a long suffering Saints member they send you a scarf each year.
They make great rod sleeves as they are hollow.
Otherwise rod bags that the rod come in and some soft foam at each end.

Shiggins- I just think they are tougher than most of the tubes on the market. Still cheaper if you use non preasure fittings.
I use 150mm pipe and you can get plenty of rods in. 6-8.

St Kilda members scarves, at last, a use for the buggers! Cheers for that, I'll be trying it out.

I used to use 150mm as well, but with the screw fittings and caps on each end I found it a touch heavy on the roof racks when off roading in some narly country. Ripped a rack off the roof, dented the roof and so on. Could have had a bit to do with driving technique. Use 90mm stormwater now. Cheap and nasty. And light.

I'm happy with the ones I bought. They look to do the job. I have rod bags but they are too big. I'm going to look into the cloth socks to protect them.

Not sure if this is something you've considered but I had the same issue with my rod tube and bought one of the SW Labs rod bags. It fits 8 rods (so far but I can get a couple more in) including my 12ft surf rod comfortably. Scroll to the bottom of the page here http://www.whiteystackle.com.au/salt-water.html#camo

Not bad Gavin. The one I got I can fit my 12 footer , 10 footer and 7 footer. Probably more. That's the hard case live fibre one.
