Without trying to high jack kiwi's thread http://w11.zetaboards.com/Westfish/topic/8778537/1/#new Ive started a new one with the SP rod I bought tonight. Now Im new to this so I tried to go with the advice from you guys as well as the guy from the shop. I bought a new combi from BCF. Its a Kato combo. Kato Preditor rod 2-5kg, 7 footer and a kato preditor 4000 reel. This combo was 100 with a 20% off sale I bought Fins braid, 20lb . This was the guys advice. The SP I bought was the gulp nuclear chicken 5" I hope this will work. What do you guys think??? Was this a mistake?? Edited by red hilux, May 16 2013, 08:22 PM.

I might be the wrong person to ask as I buy way too much gear. There are no "Wrong rods" for SP's. You can work the with an old ugly stick and an alvey reel if you want to. Some rods just make it easier. Fast or stiffer rods put more action onto the lure. They also help with setting the hook. I think you will be Ok with it. Being on the cheaper end you will need to maintain it a little more but if you wash it down after each use and clean and grease the reel occasionally it will last as well as anything. Take it out and give it a go. If you catch something you'll love it and if you don't you'll hate it! |

Cheer mate I also justified it to myself that another rod on the boat won't hurt. Can have this set for one thing and my usual for another, or for wifey to use |

what lefty said ,the most important thing is CONFIDENCE ,if your happy with it then it's all good ,what I do is put that out as a floater ie 3.5 grm jig size 2/0 ,nuke chook is good [white [glo] is better put it in the rod holder and wait ,this is at anchor ,the movement of the boat is usually enough ,it will reach the bottom then repeat the proses ,cast out the back about one and a half time's the depth ,its all suck it and see ,however if you want a more pro-active approach up your jig weight let it sink and work it back ,watch your tele [fish finder ]if any arc's appear then keep working that depth ,mr sambo will let you know how your rod goes ,dont forget CONFIDENCE ,OH just one more thing if you have a mark that hold's skippy the down size your SP and have some fun . |
