Strange encounters and captures

Been a few strange captures and encounters in the last week,

Started on Saturday out in the sound with an apparent charter boat fishing on the D9 wreck for bugger all by the look of it, good waste of money if I have any said so myself

Then today mate from back home told me a Wahoo was caught off Port Mac (SA), while fishing for southern bluefin tuna http://www.wildblue.com.au/index.php?op%20%20&Itemid=39

And in Albany today a 4.4m blue Marlin died in the shallows and washed up on the beach http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/-/wa/17579910/marlin-found-in-wa-beach/

Interesting week in the blue water that's for sure, really makes you wonder what is happening in the oceans and what changes are to come in the future, sad to say it won't all be good news....

I've was told a while back by one of the small local tackle shops there is a big population of marlin off the coast down here... Only that they are a long long way out and feed mostly on a deep sea prawn

I remember reading the free "Fisho" newsletters during the late 90's, which were La Nina years. There was a few reports of Marlin washing up in Perth, including one that washed up in the estuary at Mandurah. I vaguely remember there was one washed up on the south coast too. About the same time I remember pinging lures at a lit up Dolphin fish that was swimming laps around Woodmans point jetty.

my biggest hookup which i will never top is a humback whale. We were about 1km off the north side of rotto when a couple of whales cruised past. This one cruised so close he picked up my line and the hooks set on him somewhere. needless to say i failed to land the beast. My BTR4500 still has the scars from the knife as i was furiously trying to cut the line.
Worst thing was that when i finally parted the line the beastie turned around and came straight for us and dived under the boat missing us by about 5m.
Scared the S**t out of me to say the least. Visions of a very pissed off whale deciding to breach over our boat came to mind.

excellent. I could do with a few more hairy, unwashed, nutcases to burley up with. damn i just described myself perfectly. i should be an activist!!!
I wonder how many fillets you would get out of a 10m humpback? probably more than the 20kg allowable by fisheries.... shame really.
