I know fishwrecked has this topic but maybe because we are a different community we could do a topic like this?

especially since some of the places we fish are not covered. like cervantes, greenhead and seabird.

IMO Pt Peron ramp is now one of the best ramps in the state. 4 entry/exit lanes, a layover pontoon, recently refurbished, wash down facilities and its free.
everything a boatie needs

I do like Peron. Even when it is busy it still not a long wait. And close to good ground.

Peron ramp is certainly mostly good now. Bit hard for fat F**kers like me to hget past the off centre pylons on north side of pontoons when solo launching retrieving. Also the white rubbing strake on the pontoons is at such a height it rubs the crap out of the rego numbers and marks the hull easily.

Heading south the first beach point past penguin island is easy to use. Weed there in winter and best have a 4wd just in case but the sand is usually firm and drops straight off a bit. Best for tinnies or vessels under 17ft as water less than a metre deep. Breakback trailer good.

Other beach accesses in the north end of warnbro ok. The main ramp and finger jetty is good but shallow. Channel not deep but believe it is to be drtedged and remmarked soon. Parking can be a bit painful on busy days.

Port Kennedy or Long point ramp has nice high finger jetty and new tesselated concrete ramps. Weed builds up at times and is reasonably swell effected above 1.5mt swell. Not a place to learn trailering routines. Also often has fisherman who think its their right for you to go round their lines. Its primary function is a boat ramp and doesnt hurt to tell them so. I have had more altercations here than anywhere else. Either ignorant angry fisher people and their 30 lb herring outfits or clueless types dont even know what they are doing. Also frequented by the jetski crowd who have a designated zone east of here. No motor boat zone directly to west marked by yellow bouys. Best squid banks in here though.... lots of occy pots 30 mts from shore in amongst the weed banks west of ramp. Easy snorkel to bait up. Pots are of the free range variety.

Beach access can be made at madora bay but is illegal and for launching of small boats only over soft sand. Summer no swell only. Not recommended however have had some memorable sessions off small craft like canoes here in summer. Better just beach fishingnland based here.

Next closest is the ramp at the Mandurah Ocean marina. $5.50 parking surcharge here. Two lanes, one jetty. Steep ramp. Well wind protected. No hose etc. Next to fisheries and water police. Closest ramp to me but I dont like it at all.

Over the estuary entrance is Mary st boat ramp. Mandurahs premier public ramp. 8 or ten lanes. Never a long wait. Can be awkward lining up to your lanne when really busy but generally flows really well here. Mind the kerbs as you come round into the launch area, especially the last one. You'll see the crusty blackened corner of kerb I mean. Public toilet and now fish cleaning station. Good lighting but goes off around midnight. Mixture of pontoons and finger jetties. Has plenty of slippery spots and third ramp from the inshore side has a hole off the end of the concrete. My favourite for fishing out wide and bigger boats. Lots of parking.

Lesley st ramp. One lane. Gets a wait during peak periods. Slippery shallow incline ramp. Is at end of canals and half way up estuary inlet so slow drive either way once launched. Can be awkward reverse if trailer is hard to see empty. I generally dont like this ramp. Too much slow stuff to get anywhere.
When fishing the mandurah end of the estuary in the tinny I launch from under the high level bridge to halls head. Heading south over bridge, take first right then right again, back under bridge then off road to the left. Plenty of bank space to launch from. Can be shallow, 450mm at low tide to once I atcually parked the boat next to the trailer due to a surge and king tide! Good whiting and prawn spot. A lot of people crab and whiting fish here. Always people around, even though a favourite hoon carpark and young fellas banging through the nearby reserve in the fourby I have never had theft issues here.

Novara ramp shallow but serviceable. Old. Channel marked and lit at night. Good crabbing spot or access to lauch if exploring northern end of estuary. Suited to smaller boats only. Fisheries haunt this ramp a lot for undersize crabs.

Ramp at the cut ok. Concrete edging is too far from jetty to make the step from jetty to trailer easy if small boat and retrieving single handed. Good for bigger boats. Fee applies in summer. Hose and pay as you go carwash machine available. hardstand storage available here. cctv too. fuel available at marina during working hours. Take aways and tackle store too.

Avalon/falcon beach access. 4wd small boat only. Rough but manageable for experienced in winter, some gaps in the reef to look for if launching on calm summer days. Rangers book you if you not launching retrieving boat and have your vehicle on the beach. No facilities.

Parkridge ramp good. Two lanes, jetties at sides. Marked channel. No fcilities I think, I only ever go there in the dark. Good access to prime netting country.

Totally agree with you there Josh, those pylon designs need reviewing. I'm certain people have probably fallen off due to them.

Swan River.
Starting at the Freo end the first ramp on the South side is the Leeuwin Ramp. Good Ramp with Jetties but gets Very Busy with bigger boats going deep in summer and the parking fees are a joke. Good ramp to use in winter but knob jockey central in summer.

The next set of ramps on the south side is Point Walter. 2 sets of ramps, with the one closer to the point a lot shallower. No jetties on either ramp and parking fees apply here too. Same as most ramps in the river summer time is busy as but winter time it's a good place to put in to chase big Bream in Mossy/Freshwater bay after heavy rain.

Johnston St ramp in Freshwater bay is the first North side ramp. Very small, next to no parking and no jetties. Get there very early for this one but a good ramp for night fishing for mulla's as it's close to the wrecks.

Heading up the Canning you have Deep Water Point. Good ramp, no jetties and parking fees. It is also a ski area so another place full of knob jockey's in summer. If I fish up this way in summer I'll be in at dawn and gone by 10am. Anything after that and it's too frustrating. But it can be one of the best for ...er ...um ...scenery!
There is a ramp over the other side of the river which is a beach launch (2wd ok) on Gentilli way. Not much parking and NEVER use it at night as your car WILL be broken into.

Last ramp in the Canning is Shelley bridge. It heads upstream from the bridge and can be impossible to use at low tide. Good for small boat Bream fishing in summer on the bigger high tides. Expect to bottom out as navigation in difficult if you don't know it. The bridge is too low to head down stream except maybe kayaks.

South Perth there is James Mitchell park. Single lane and small area for parking. I don't use this one as the degree of difficulty here with getting to it and the lack fishing locations around it put me off. More of a crab/flatty fish in summer.

Maryland Foreshore (Swan Bank road) is a north side ramp. I don't use this one being a southern sider. So I can't give much more than the location. It is a ski area ramp so that will tell you a bit.

Belmont is across the southern side. Excellent ramp with parking and jetty but being a ski area I avoid it like the plague in summer. It does unfortunately have some great Bream areas through that section so midweek is the best option.

Bayswater Ramp (Katanning st) is my usual ramp of choice. Easy access being next to Tonkin hwy and now has a floating jetty. Plenty of free parking and some of the best Bream areas around.

Bassendean ramp (off Bassendean Parade) is a small shallow ramp with no jetty and rocks either side and very little parking. I don't use this one much but can be an option for small tubs looking to avoid crowds.

Guilford Ramp is the last one up that way. Gravel ramp with submerged rocks either side but plenty of free parking. I will usually only use this one if looking for a place to hide from the seabreaze in summer.

I'll add a few ramps from down here.

Albany harbour ramp:
The main and most popular ramp down here, 2 ramps with floating jetty. Gets very busy most weekends and holidays, big car park with toilets etc. I normally try to head out from here very early to beat the rush.

Emu Point:
Again 2 ramps with floating jetty, again gets very busy weekends and holidays, car park isn't as big as the main harbour... Smaller boats can launch off the rock hard beach to the right of ramp to beat crowds. Also theres another small ramp right up the other end of the marina which is used by the oyster boats. Can be a good ramp to use if main one is busy but make sure the oyster boats aren't using it.

Kalgan river:
The proper ramp is located just before the Kalgan river bridge on your left hand side heading out of town. Very basic river ramp with mud, can use 4x2 but don't back down too far. Toilets are always locked and car park is very small. (watch for sand banks heading up river as its very shallow in places)
I prefer to use the Ski Club launching area further upstream, much more open area and 4x2 accessable (again dont back in too far). However the ski club don't like fishers and its best to use this ramp in winter or weekdays.

Muttonbird beach:
4x4 beach launch suited to small boats only, beach is usually hard but swell can make things hard. Great ground only a few hundred metres offshore though.

Cosy Corner:
4x4 beach launch, swell can be a drama. Wouldn't recommend this one.

Hartmans Beach:
My local ramp. Beach launch protected by a small island, beach is rock hard (have seen 4x2s down here before) but the final 50m down to the beach is very steep dirt. Suitable for most boats as it drops off reasonably quick (have seen 6m boats launch from here) WORD OF CAUTION: make sure you check tides before heading out from here. A bit of swell and a high tide causes most of the beach to go underwater. There is 4 bays you can drive up of the beach and onto some grass if you get in early, many people just park up on the beach but i normally drive back up the 50m of track and park up top.

Poddyshot ramp Denmark.
Two basic slipperly ramps with single old solid jetty into the wilson inlet. Small car park with toilets. Pretty shallow water so stick to the channel markers. Also don't try backing down with the door open. (big concrete ledge which jumps out and attacks doors, Talking from experience).

Australind has 3 ramps.

1. The elbow.

Posted Image

IS a concrete ramp suitable for small craft venturing beyond the elbow for big bream and crabbers. Draw back is seclusion and mozzies.
Toilet near by.

2. The estuary.

located down near the end of australind and the start of gallway greens. A sand ramp suitable for 4x4's and small boats/jet skis. Lots of parking near by.

3. BP Australind.

Posted Image

No finger jetty but a marked channel to get out to the ocean. Deep and most boats launch and then move off to the side to let other boaties through. gets very busy during school holidays and weekends of perfect weather. Next to the BP (duh!) and amble parking and amenties.

Eaton.

Eaton has 3 boat ramps aswell.

1. The estuary.

This one is located opposite millennium chemicals and is a good spot for yellow fin whiting and mullet. I net here for those reason. you launch to the left as it drops to 1m but the right is flat as. Not used as much but it is possible to launch there.

2. Collie river Pratt road.

Located opposite grand canals and before the collie river bridge. next to a park with okay parking and a toilet blocks and bins. New finger jetty installed and good angle means deep boats launch here easily. 1 lane. Does have problems with vandalism. opposite the caltex fuel station. And celebrations for those that need red cans...

3. Grand Canals.

Posted Image

2 lanes and ample parking. Small jetty that will go under water with a decent rain and high tide. The car park will also flood under heavy rain... Favorite launching spot for people of eaton area due to the jetty and ease of approach. also opposite the caltex fuel station. And celebrations for those that need red cans... Some bins but do watch out for D**kheads who throw there crab shells, beer bottles and other crap on the ramp.

BUnbury.

Bunbury by far most have all the ramps in the west!!!

1. The Cut.

Rocky boat ramp located at turkey point behind the cut. Small craft only. mainly used by dinghy's and jet skis going out to the water ski area.
sandy parking adn the cut does get quite rough at times.

2. Bunbury Powerboat Club boat ramp.

Posted Image

Two wide concrete ramps with one T style timber finger jetty. This ramp is located in the sheltered waters of the Leschenault Inlet and gives boaters direct access to Koombana Bay through a set of floodgates. Boaters must be aware that these gates may be closed due to inclement weather and must be prepared to retrieve at an alternative ramp. That being said, in conditions which would cause this to occur, boats should not be on the water anyway. It is suitable for craft of all sizes and is easy to launch from. Located in the heart of Bunbury it is very popular with locals fishing both in and offshore. Do be warned no access if the flood gates are closed. Also very cheap to become a member of the club. I belive its about $140 a year.

3. Stirling St boat ramp. -> http://www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/General-Discussion/Chat/Dont-let-the-Wife-back-the-boat-in/ -> well known local....

Also located in the leschenualt inlet. new finger jetty added recently. 2 lanes. located near the rowing club and just down from the parade hotel.

4. Casuarina Boat Ramp

Posted Image

Two concrete ramps with one timber finger jetty. Has the tessalated style ramp. This ramp is used for all boats. from big cabin cruisers down to jetski's. Get very busy during the day and any public holiday/school holidays. the artifical reef is located 2nm due west from here. Due ramp kerbs are very slippery so do where shoes/reef boots when launching and retrieving. Don't be rude and wait your turn. At nights the carpark is used for burnouts so be warned to sercure your valuables and car before venturing out.

They are re-doing the whole thing over the next couple of years. Will be mini-marina eventually, with the whole rock-wall being extended/moved.
I agree with that stupid curb and it's slippery as all hell too!

info here: http://www.joondalup.wa.gov.au/develop/majorprojects/oceanreefmarina.aspx

Careful where you park as the Joondalup Parking inspectors are NAZIs that hit the same traps every week, especially on Sundays. Been pinged twice, once there, both on borderline circumstances and they don't back down. Pr1cks

Hey Lefty, there is one at the end of Memorial Drive just north of Garrett Rd Bridge, I'd call that the 'Baysie ramp' and the bigger one at Katanning Rd 'Ashfield'. Just a local boy splitting hairs... ;)

Anyway the 'Baysie' one is very small, no jetty, best for small craft only.

LOL Lefty . Your reply cracked me up. If you are in Huntingdale , then you are just over the river from where I grew up as a kid and there was always a strong north of/south of divide .
I used to get shipped off to the aunties for a period most school hols and while it was an adventure , it was also the pits. One lived in Wembley and the other one lived in Yokine and I would end up so homesick because you can't see the Hills from the northern side of the river.

As for boat ramps down here that we use.

The Stirling Street one that Fish mentioned , has had an upgrade last year which has made it very user friendly .
It has public toilets , rubbish bins and limited parking.
During the week , most of the parking is taken up by tradies and delivery van drivers stopping there for smoko or to eat their lunch . Can be annoying if you are looking to park vehicle and boat trailer Grrrr.

The one that Fish calls Casuarina [probably it's correct title these days] I know of also, but Kevin knows it by another name and I can't think of it right now. All the old jetty / harbour was his old stamping grounds and he takes delight in telling the kids that his first job when he left highschool was loading timber sleepers into ships moored at the now defunct timber jetty.
This boat ramp although concreted , is horrendously slippery ; however it is very sheltered.
There are no nearby public toilets.

The ramps at the Power Boat Club close in a matter of days [we saw the notice signs this arve when we were down flatlanding ] for "upgrades" . I'm not sure how long they will be closed for.
This will put a lot more pressure on the Stirling Street ramp no doubt.

One thing that folks [new to area , launching boats from either Stirling Street or the Power Boat Club] need to be aware of , are the tide times.
You are launching into the restricted waters of what is now called the Leschinault Inlet .
It is still subjected to tidal influences and to access the harbour , Koombana Bay and ultimately the open water ..... you have to go under 2 quite low bridges ..... where the floodgates are that Fish mentioned.

Tinnies will slip through whatever the water , we have shavvvvved through a couple of times at high water with rods down , antennae down and holding our breath . The currents that swirl through there under the bridges at tide change time can be horrendous.
We have seen boats just a bit larger than ours , launched and then not able to get under the bridges at high water to be retrieved and also seen boats launched that have not been able to exit under the bridges.

Yeap that's why i choose to launch from the outer harbour. so much easier then dealing with low bridges.
