Gday all, after my mate spent the weekend fishing out of his tinny in Albany getting into some samson fish. It got us wondering whether there are any consistent inshore samson spots in Perth waters that a 4.5m tinny can reach??? I've only caught a little 30cm specimen and are keen to find a larger model, after talking to my mate and getting on youtube. From what I have read my best bet is burleying up on a lump and being patient and having some luck (or being unlucky if you dont want them), but are any places where the chances of hooking them are greater? Any advice and pointers are greatly appreciated. Cheers Boots |

Can always try at the back of Penguin Island, as they live among the reef chasing tailor/salmon. Also calm days you could try out on conventry or that wreck just inside and at the back there of safety bay (can't remember name atm). Also try at the northern entrance of cockburn sound, there is some broken ground / reefy areas around there that they hang around. this time off year i've seen them caught up to 35kg+ (lost the pic unfortunately - was on another forum, but been deleted). Not much fun in 20m of water.......unless you like that sort of physical pain for no reward. ![]() The larger models will tend to migrate come summertime though. I've often found schools are generally up to 10kg with the odd bigger specimen. |

Go hard sunshine and berley berley berley. This is the time off the year for all that caper. I been seeing em everywhere. Make sure you use your mates gear and be prepeared to pull the pick quick. Make sure you can both operate the boat and work well together. Get into it. I try put up a pic of a recent one from penguin island.

I knew fathom was a term for depth Spence, just thought there might have been a 7 fathom bank. Sounds good to splashback, sounds like some fun where both keen to get amongst them and the one off the beach looks like a real horse Tones. |

Its the first drop off really after rocko out from warnbro and cockburn sounds. A km behind the sisters give or take. It the stays flat for a bit before you come up to the 5 fathom bank. We have just been burleying there and getting sambos. |

Your in with a chance as long as ya lines wet. Get into it! Good luck. Make sure your reel seat is tight and don't bend the handle by trying to lift the fish with your winding hand. And warm up your arms too. |
