should be on everybodys bucket list i reckon, definitely a lot of exploring to be done. I fished Juneau, Sitka and Ketchikan, chasing the various species. Damn seal took my biggest King salmon, 40lb easy |

Its crucial to know that the salmon run at different times of the year. If you are on the wrong water and the wrong time they are empty. Early on the chum salmon dominate. Right now is the best time to target the kings and coho. the Kings are the premier fish and some are huge, but there's a lot of casting between fish and you basically piss them off to get a bite. Personally i enjoyed the coho (silvers) fishing the best. They are aggressive taking flies stripped across the surface and really perform when hooked. Unfortunately their numbers are really depleted and big wild fish are a rare find. I was lucky to meet the right people over there that took me to the right places at the right times. |
