Needed some decent weather Fish. The reds came from out west cape howe in 28m and the harli towards muttonbird from 7m of water, lost a couple unknowns in the shallows too.

I think Albany would be the better option that time of year Rob.
Less chance of it being windy 24hrs a day. Also less chance of your pommy mate dying of heat stroke. ;)

Do you have a 4x4 Colin?
if so you can drive right out to west cape howe and launch from the beach there, then its only a 400m paddle out to where i got this lot. Reasonably sheltered there too

Yup sure do Trav - Kia Sorrento - when Kia made proper 4WDs with a ladder frame chassis , transfer case and low range - we were so impressed with the Sorrento that we WERE going to upgrade to a new one but the morons went AWD and a monocoque :( - is that down Cosy Corner Rd Trav?

The pike, squid head and bonito are bait for next time. Wanting a big ytk or tuna over summer.
Theres a 4x4 track heading off shellys beach rd. Takes you right out to the little beach along from shellys. Takes about 30mins to get there but its pretty easy going. Few soft sandy spots. Straight off the beach you can get squid kgs skippy etc and if you stay along the cliffs it drops down to 30m. Always good for sambos, queenies, breaksea cod. Picked up pinkies reds and a mako there too

Some landbased action this time.

I'm now hooked on gas ballooning, picked up two sambos on the balloon (live herring as bait) lost a small shark, and got to watch another couple of sambos play around teasing the poor herring before buggering off. Also picked up two sambos on the spin gear casting mulies (and a nice black bum too)
Big school of tuna out wide but wasn't my day to get them

Had planned to stay out all day but had a storm come in around 1030. (struggled to stand up carrying gear back to the car with the wind)
Also sliced my finger bleeding the black bum, ended up making a bandage out of my sock and kept fishing

Good work Trav, that big king wont be too far away.

Did you use helium and bounce the herring on the surface? sounds like it worked whatever you did.

Yep the kit from spotlight, meant to do 30 balloons so will see how it lasts.

I was using 2 normal party size balloons and live herring, so they provided enough lift to get out past the whitewash/rocks and enough resistance to pull the herring along.

Nice looking landbased spot, would be great for an all nighter. Good fun getting them sambo's, hope the walk back to the car wasn't far, that esky looks big.

Haha was three trips back to the car, only 100m away over the rocks tho.
I had some rod holders there last year but someones been kind enough to smash them out, so had to use the esky as a holder instead.

Its a great spot but need everything to be perfect to be safe. Theres a spot just to the left of it which i'm wanting to camp at saturday night (depending on weather)

Hit the water just after 3am this morning to find my usual spot just wasn't going to work (water in the boat once too many times)
So i headed into shallower, protected waters to see what i could find. Anchored up in 14m between some weed and sand patches, got a light burley trail happening and the flathead were straight away on the bite. I traded in the 30lb gear for 4lb and spent the next couple of hours having heaps of fun with big flatties between 52-63cm. Landed at least 20 (lost count) plus had a few that decided they weren't keen for a look on the surface.
Also picked up the pike, a small fiddler ray and two small black bums on the 4lb gear and two bloody big rays on the big rod, also had a good run on the drop of the big rod but couldn't hook up.

Overall a nice morning out on the water

15min drive from mine and these are the results. Pretty bloody happy with my first blue groper, caught on a live crab and penn 850.

The ballooning gear got a good workout as well with 2 big salmon (damn bait stealers) 3 sambos, of which i only managed to land one, (wish i had a video of one getting air as it hit the herring) and one big unknown which took off and didn't slow down, ended up biting or snapping the 80lb leader, clean break so not too sure.
Also picked up 4 nice silver bream on the light gear just before sunrise.

Excuse the pics, kinda hard taking them solo haha

Well no luck (again) off the rocks today as the swell was massive so we headed up the Kalgan armed with flick rods and hard bodies to play around with some bream.
Pulled up to some flats and being the nice guy I am got the mrs all set up and fishing before even unpacking my gear.
3 casts from the mrs and she hooks up to a massive bream (high 40s at least) 5mins later and its nearly on the shore it decides to go for one last run and snaps the 6lb leader. (needed the landing net really) So i set her line back up and very next cast hooks up to another sizable bream, which after a pic was happily released.
End result, 2 big bream for the mrs, nothing for me haha

Finally managed to tick another fish off the landbased list today. Managed my first legal ytk of the stones, not a monster but still a half decent 87cm caught on a big live herring.
Burleyed up two big kings with a mix of mulies and salmon but they wouldn't touch anything with a hook in it. Tried live herring, herring fillet, whole mulie, half mulie, salmon chunk, 10/0 7/0 4/0 hooks but no luck. Each time they'd come screaming up behind the bait then bugger off again.
Also had a good size tuna come right into the rocks which i quickly hooked, fought for 5mins then just when i thought was ready to land had it take off and pull the hooks. Needless to say there was some very colourful language that even woke the dog up from its' nap in the sun.

Picking up my new tinny next weekend so tinny reports will be back soon
