Hell of a good feed there. Looks like the catch limits are a bit higher than here. 200km+ round trip in the tinny is adventurous for sure. That's a lot of bouncing over choppy water aye, even without a big swell that would have to take a toll on your back. So when you eventually get a bigger boat where are you gonna head out to??? Lol.

Backs pretty good but still felt like i was the boat when i got home last night haha.
Used about 70litres of fuel all up so even some further reefs arent impossible, think everyone just thought i was one of the live trout fishos.

Bag limits are good here, think youre allowed 20 reef fish all up, then indiviual limits are 8 for the red throat and 7 trout. No licence fee either so cant complain.
Bigger boat will come, thinking a 520 formosa centre console is what we'd like with upgraded tank size etc.

With the freezer empty from very average river trips along with some trailer dramas (failed wheel bearing one week followed by a snapped winch post the next) I was given the order to go back out to the reef and not come back until i had some trout on board.
So headed north to Lucinda friday night ready for an early morning bounce to the reefs starting from a short 40km offshore.

Picked up a couple tuna for bait on the way but struggled to find any decent fish from the first reef, so shot across to another and switched to throwing plastics around in 8m of water. Scored an undersized red first cast which was a surpise, followed by a few small trout and cod but nothing worth bringing home.

Decided to go for a search between two reefs along ground in 40-60m finding a neat little spot about the size of a footy oval stacked with baitfish.
Dropped a jig down and picked up four trout in as many drops before loosing 3 jigs one after another to unstoppables. Switched over to heavier gear and bait for another trout, red throat, a baldchin and chinaman fish before the bait and action vanished.

I had planned of heading out further to 150m to do some jigging but the winds were all over the place so I spent some time throwing stickbaits over the reef for not much before having one last crack on my new found ground.
Found the bait had returned and had some fun on small 3-5kg trevally, another chinaman fish and donated two more jigs before deciding to make my way home instead of risking a windy night on the reef.

Been rough for qld standards this week with 20knot winds and a 1.5m swell, so hit a local creek system this morning with Emily for an explore.
Focused our efforts on a smaller creek that connects two big systems about 10 or so km apart, threw lures around for a hour or so while the crab pots were in for a few little cod. Then had to contend with a pot stealing croc before throwing the castnet for a few mullet.
With the tide falling we set up near a deep 5m hole and baited up, Emily called the first two fish being a stinky catfish and bigger cod before stumping her with a keeper jack and bream in amongst being bricked by some solid fish.

Action died off and with the odd shower we trolled our way along the creek dropping a good salmon boatside and the usual small cod.
Decided to use up the last of our bait scoring us a keeper muddy on line and a final bricking before calling it a day

Seafood and mangoes lately, cant complain with that.

Im guessing theyre either fingermark or gts as they hit hard and stay deep. Barra are off limits over here for a couple of months which means all the heavier "barra" gear has to stay home, so been fishing with 10lb and 15lb leader to keep fisheries happy.

Got out yesterday to a local river for a day in the sun, got plenty of live mullet and bait sized prawns in the castnet before shooting out the river mouth to a likely spot.
Had plenty of bait in amongst the snags so mixed it up with some lures and live baits, lost a good run on a mullet out in the middle of the river before picking up two big remoras which made us wonder what else was in the area.

Had a good 80odd cm barra sit just behind the tinny that wasnt interested in plastics, unlike some big cod and jacks deep in the snags. Landing them was another story though.
Picked up a few bream and smaller cod before landing at a nearby clearing for a bbq lunch, after that we switched to trolling the main river channel scoring small cod and a probably just legal mackeral that put the poor 1000size reel through its paces.

Blowing a gale over here most days lately, strong Easterlies in the morning and then the Southwesters in the arvo. Still fishable as low swell but a choppy bumpy ride if going out any sort of distance. In saying that this morning looks okay at the moment in close anyway. Also this weekend is looking awesome for a change but I have other plan unfortunately.

Nights have been heating up over here so decided to get out for a crack at some inshore fingermark.
Didnt start off so well getting stuck making my way out of a creek, struggled to find any mullet for baits and had a sloppy metre plus chop that saw me have a few spews, but once I reached my spot a few km out and saw the sounder light up all was forgotten.
Switched on the led spotties and instantly had squid, yellowtail and flying fish lining up to be live baits. Dropped a squid down the 16m to the bottom and was on straight away, scoring a solid fingermark to start the morning.
The action continued with small nannies, big dropped fish and a 3rd of a barracuda before the bite died off just before dawn.
Snapped my anchor rope so instead of going back into sheltered waters for a nap I pulled out the plastics to fish a few high tide rock bars, learnt the reason why most people use 50 lb plus leader as i got done over by a big barra and picked up some small spangled emps and cod before calling it a day

Been spending a bit of time exploring a few lesser fished creeks around the place, turns out that most are a bugger to get into but they fish well.
Got out today after some more bluenose salmon for the freezer but instead found barra after barra (bloody closed season too)

Ended up landing 6 out of 10 hookups on smallish barra while flicking plastics at snags for jacks and had a big metre plus beast cruise past in 50cm of water which was unreal to watch before getting a few mullet for bait.
Picked a deep hole well upstream and picked up a decent grunter and jack for the esky along with some small gts to pass the time.
Pulled in the pots on my way out for three solid muddies along with a bunch of just undersized ones released for later.

Got out late yesterday arvo for an overnighter chasing fingermark. Had a quick flick along the flats on my way out picking up a small golden trevally that was put aside for bait.

Had another boat anchor up no more than 10m away from me at my first spot so decided to shift to another mark which i had to myself for the night.
Lots of bait was showing on the sounder but bigger fish were hard to come by with only small spangled emperor and the odd small cod coming up.
Finally had a solid hit and soon had a good 70cm fingermark to kick off my keepers, quickly caught a few squid for live baits (only allowed 1 rod per person in this zone) and dropped again scoring a legal nanni, quickly followed by another two for the esky, along with a dirty barracuda.

After that it died off with only small sharks every now and then. Smack on midnight i got another hit and thought bloody shark straight away, so not really wanting to waste time i locked up the avet and tried slowing it down/breaking it off.
Managed to stop its first run without the line snapping and got stuck into a 20min fight with it doing big circles of the boat, still leaning towards a shark I was pretty surpised when a solid gt appeared boatside, coming in at 110cm its a new pb although id rather get one on popper.
After that I dropped another fingermark boatside before making my way into a sheltered bay for a nap while waiting for the tide to come back in

Been a while between reports due to a few crappy sessions, had my brother over from wa for 10days and while we found fish we just had a run of bad luck. Dropping a couple big barra boatside, me getting nipped by a muddy, a heap of sharks and minor flooding which closed our jungle perch dreams.
Anyway what a difference a week makes, with 5knot winds and a half metre swell i had the tinny loaded up and hit the water friday evening planning on avoiding the barra opening weekend crowds in the creeks by chasing a few fingermark.
Had a shocker of a night landing a just sized nanni before sharks moved in making things impossible. Called it quits when a fish i had on got sharked by a smaller metre long shark which was then sharked by a big 3.5m plus monster.

Had a few hours sleep then headed out wider to a rubble patch, had heaps of bait showing so it was out with the jigs for two little bludger trevally (bait for later) and a small 60cm gt before all going quiet. Checked out my charts and decided to go another 17odd km out to an old ww2 bomber wreck which had another boat already anchored on, not wanting to intrude I had another look at the charts and thought its only another 40mins to on of the reefs.

Arrived at the reef with acres and acres of baitfish being nailed by a few species of tuna, macks and gts. Would have had to have been 1000s of fish pretty much everywhere you looked, picked up a couple of little mack tuna for baits then focused my efforts on some esky fillers.
Had heaps of fish showing but really struggled to get a bite on baits and jigs, was wishing id packed the speargun as you could see fish in 20m of water that just werent interested.

Made my way around to the back of the reef and decided to throw some surface lures around to pass some time scoring three smaller gts and a solid tuna as well as dropping a good mackerel i was able to sight cast at in 3m of water.

Sounded around some deeper areas off the reef and finally found the trout managing to get my limit in a couple of hours along with a couple emperor, various cod and the usual big bust offs that have you thinking what was that.

Wouldve liked to stay the night out there but with no phone signal and megan thinking i was fishing the bomber wreck i decided to head home.

Been finding it hard to find something to miss about the southern half of Wa haha.
Took emily for a creek bash yesterday which saw us pick up some good bluenose salmon on troll before anchoring up and using baits for a mix of small grunter, gts, bream and jacks which emily had a blast reeling in.
Finished off the day with a couple full muddys from one pot and 4 cod (one keeper) from the other

Picked up 3-4kgs in just over a hour that became lunch today and fresh baits for tomorrow.

Its pretty neat having a fishery like that 5 mins from the middle of town.
Lure is a rapala clackin minnow, actually found it up one of the creeks here, has a nice slow roll with a loud rattle. Lost it last night on a heap of lillys in the river, only freshwatee crocs in that part but wasnt keen on a swim

Knocked off work and arrived home to Emily dressed in her fishing gear and very keen to head out in the tinny, so who was i to say no.
Decided to hit one of the main rivers in town and head out along the rockwalls, picked up our live herring and prawns from the bank before cruising out 5mins (damn 6knot zones) to a likely looking spot.

Started off very slow but finally got a couple of hits and two little sharks to get things rolling. Noticed one of the lines start moving upstream so picked it up and set the hook, first thoughts were another shark but the chrome side of a barra launching boatside saw the excitment levels on board lift.
Emily was quick to grab the net while the barra kept launching spraying us both in water.
Safely netted it and had a few high fives with Emily who couldnt wait to go home to tell Megan that we caught a barra.
Dropped another good run then decided to head home with a few good feeds
