Good stuff Trav, what sort of new tinny are you getting? What was wrong with the old one?

Cheers fellas, for its size it went a lot harder than a sambo.

Nothing wrong with the old tinny, just getting on a little and i wanted something i can set up how i like from new and know all its history. Ive gone for a painted 420 busta with extruded side decks, canopy and a 30hp yamaha. Its a little lighter and deeper than the hornet and i couldn't complain about the price.
Can't wait to get it out on the water

Also had a bit of an explore late Saturday avo. Headed down towards the deeps to see it packed with cars so turned left and found a little track heading up a hill that hadn't been used in a long time. Followed the track for 500m before it seemed to just end in some thick scrub, a quick scout around had me discover that the track actually kept going but the trees had grown over it.
So i ditched the cruiser and started walking, after a good 400m of bush bashing under the scrub it cleared to a big rock overlooking the deeps and showing a possible fishing spot right down below. After spotting what seemed like a track down (it wasn't) i decided that i'd come this far that it'd be a crime not to go down to the water.
20minutes later saw me at the bottom looking into very fishy water, with a heap of crabs running along the rocks it just yells out groper to me. Its a spot that i'll definity be revisiting but i'm not keen on the trek back up to the car.

I just love it when a plan comes together,
Troll up a couple of bonito for bait: Check
Anchor up out of the wind and swell: Check
Burley burley burley: Check
Score some top fish: Check check and check.

Ended up landing, 2 bonito, 1 skippy, 6 scorpion fish, 3 rays, 5 pinks, 1 blackarse, 1 harli, 2 red snapper and 4 sambos.
Ended up dropping, 2 pinks (one was a big bugger) 3 unknowns, 2 rays, 1 sambo and a shark that manage to take everything but the damn hooks

Kept 3 pinks (smallest was 51cm) the 2 reds, harli and a sambo

Cheers everyone.
I can see some really good fish coming aboard this boat over the coming months.
Ive gone to using a 50lb and 30lb braid setup with 50lb black magic leader and lightly weighted baits, seem to get less crap fish and more bites than when i was using 80lb.

Haha probably a damn ray, was just a cheapo rod with a penn850 and 30lb braid.
Was spewing as it was my favorite setup, could handle the sambos but still made skippy fun.

Nice going Trav!

GREAT that you finally cracked the 50cm Dhui barrier with that 62 - but mixed fortunes with the loss of that equipment.

Once again the south coast master has struck - awesome haul mate!

A tip if I may (have learn't this the hard way like you just did) - if you are going to write a long report - write it up in MS Notepad or Word Pad then copy and paste - don't use MS Word as that contains imbedded hidden (formatting) characters.

Then format (BB code) attach images and insert emoticons.

That way if you cop a freeze you still have the long report to copy and paste :)
Kind Regards

Yeah pretty happy with it so far, seems to be a bit dryer and softer riding than the hornet.
Engine is maybe a touch underpowered as it takes a while to plane but i think a hydrofoil and moving the fuel tank up front will sort that out.

Going to make a little centre console for the battery, sounder, radio, switches etc just in front of the rear seat. Along with a couple of watertight storage hatches under the floor as there's a fair bit of space under there.
Brother inlaws going to weld me up a stone guard for the trailer as most of my driving is along gravel roads and the red dust/mud is a pain to wash off.

Can see some big fish coming aboard in the years to come

Headed out off Hartmans this morning just before dawn, (already 4 boats on the water by then) and within 20mins I was anchored, burleyed and ready to fish. Was a pretty slow morning there with 2 rays, 2 pinks (kept one at 46cm) the swallowtail along with the nice gummy that destroyed everything in the boat before i knocked it out. Also manage to land 3 big cuttlefish none of which inked onboard, kept one for bait and maybe a feed and released the other two. Never seen a number of big cuttlefish in the one place before.

As I was having a bite to eat I noticed a few birds and splashes off in the distance, so it was up with the anchor and motored over to have a look. I could see they were tuna of some kind and the harder i looked the more i could see. Ended up casting pretty much every lure I had at them and chased them around for a couple of hours, they were feeding on tiny whitebait about 2in long and of course I'd left all my small metals at home. Finally had some luck with a 30gram raider with this one, two missed hookups, lost one at the boat and a big one that I had to chase around in the tinny for 20min after it took nearly 300yards of line, only to have it race back towards the boat and spit the hooks. Not too sure what kind of tuna it was but it was bloody big haha.

All in all a decent morning on the water, (other then the massive surge at the beach ramp which made things interesting, my cars now sitting on a sprinkler being washed off after having waves up to the doors)

Couple of Landbased photos from today. Got busted off twice (one felt very snapperish) lost a salmon and got my second ever landbased Harliquin at 53cm
Not a great day out, (sliced my foot open getting out of the ute, and had to set up a few ropes to get off the wet rocks) but still good fun

Yeah whatever it was had lots of short sharp headshakes without taking much line and was pretty heavy. Ended up rubbing the braid on the rock and that was the end of that.
The guys heading out to cheynes are chasing big sharks, i dont have the gear for that so will try my luck with snapper or maybe a mulla.

Been using a 7ft 4-6kg rod with a 8000 baitrunner and 30lb setup, which will double up as a boat combo too. Handles the salmon and bonito pretty well too.
Good km plus walk back to the car just to make things interesting haha, had a big kingy cruising around in front of us which would've been awesome to catch but the salmon were just too fast.

Yep I believe that, good effort. me n the misses caught four off the beach in front of a reef up that way once a few years back. We used to 4x4 and camp up that way quite a bit usually just south of Moore River though.

Well after the hike and snapper on Saturday we all headed out to the Denmark tavern to celebrate my mrs's birthday. As she can't drink I took it upon myself to drink not only for the both of us but also our unborn child, so as you can probably guess I woke in the morning with a killer hangover and to make matters worse the brother's and sister inlaw wanted some more fishing action (only the father inlaw and i drink).
After a couple of strong coffees and a cold shower we loaded up the utes and headed out to the local rocks ready to catch some fish. Within minutes of unloading the rods we were onto none stop salmon action, with a massive school (along with tuna further out) that just hung around for hours. Everyone was onto them with a good 50 or so caught and lost on all sorts of homemade cheapo lures. Great fun watching big 7-8kg salmon fight over a painted broomstick wound in flat out.
After spying a big shark surfacing I decided to throw (ok really its just a drop off the rocks) a 7kg salmon under a few balloons with two 12/0s thru its back. Within minutes a massive 3m plus shark came flying out of the water nailing the salmon and so began a quick 15minute aerial battle with a very annoyed shark. Eventually it launched itself out of the water in a twist, wrapped itself up and snapped the line.
With my heart pumping i rerigged and sent another big salmon back out under a balloon. This one cruised around for a hour or so without any interest so the inlaws packed up their ute and left the mrs and I to finish off the bait.
We started to burley up with a bag of mulies, few herring and two bonito frames. Looking over at the balloon we noticed another salmon make a quick dash away before another massive shark came up taking the bait. This fight was quickly over as my knot pulled.
After a few unsuccessful casts for salmon we decided to throw out one of the big skippy we had caught under a balloon on the fin nor lethal 100 and 15-24kg ugly stick. Within 30seconds of hitting the water yet another big dark shape surfaced and quickly took the skippy. With drag set as tight as i dared the shark kept going and going and going but before i knew it 500m of 50lb was gone and it was all over. (reel was pretty damn hot after that)
With one skippy and one wire trace remaining we rigged up the tld25 again and chucked the bait off the rocks. 5 minutes passed before the balloons popped and dragged screamed as another smaller shark of 2m took the bait and so began a 50min battle. Knowing that there was no real safe chance to land it we decided to get a happy snap before cutting the line as close as we could.
Amazing to see how many sharks there are down here (any how game they are to take big baits)

Headed out for some tinny action this morning.
End results were, 5 bust offs on both 30-50lb, 2 big sambos, 2 black bums, 1 cuttlefish, nice little mako, 1 salmon, 1 undersized dhu and one very very nice pinky that went 97cm caught on a 6in soft plastic and 20lb line.

Na mako decided to save its energy for onboard the boat. Had to give it a number of wacks on the head after it had a bite on the gunnels while spraying blood everywhere from the gaff wound.
It had come to within a metre of the boat for a chew on the burley cage. Couldve gaffed it without hooking it.
