Nice going, sounds like a bit of an effort to get the boat back on though. Not keen to try that on my own with my boat.

Headed out to a not so sunny walpole midday Saturday with the plan of spending the night down at chatham island, but it was pretty clear the wind wasn't going to allow that.
Instead bounced out to goose island and played around with the jigs, picked up a nice little dhuie along with some good Skippy and smallish kingys.
Decided that I'd be smart and find a sheltered spot for the night, so anchored up alongside saddle island. Quickly picked up a few sand whiting for baits on sunset along with a nw blowie.
Must of been anchored in shark central as I was plagued by them with four coming boatside and three more bite off's before the low battery alarm went off on the sounder.
Not wanting to risk being out there with no electronics I pulled anchor and headed in, quick tip. Don't try the inlet crossing at night as it's a nightmare, been a lot of places in the tinny but that crossing was the first time I've been worried.

Anyway got home around 10pm, chucked the battery on charge, cleaned the catch and had a quick sleep before heading off Hartmans 630am Sunday.
Trekked out towards eclipse island, fishing a lot of ground but really struggled finding anything worthwhile. Dropped what I think was a decent dhu, boated a few rat kings, along with the usual Skippy and Blackarse.
Came back along the coast towards the windfarm for something different, found a few good sand whiting and lots of rays.

Good going Trav. I'm still yet to get down your way to have a crack but if will happen in the near future. Do you target squid down there? Also I was just wondering if I was to pm you my email address could you send a few photos of the layout of your dingy. I've got one very similar and I like the idea of your island console.

Cheers, Na don't really go out targeting squid. But there's always a few around, had three hanging around the boat Saturday night.
I'll chuck up a few pics of the boat after work tomorrow

How big were the sharks and did you keep any? I was out the other side of Eclipse Island also fairly quiet except for sharks.

All around the 70-100cm mark. Kept one for the table and fried a fillet up when I got home that night, beautiful eating.

Headed out yesterday morning for my first ocean trip since Exmouth, nearly decided to head into the sound instead as the shore break was pretty nasty. Managed to judge the break perfectly and launched the tinny without even getting the Pajero wet.
Cruised on out to one of my old spots with a big swell but very little wind, pulled out the jigs and had a cracking sambo session which saw 6 hit the decks and another 4 bust offs. Also picked up a few skippy, breaksea, 3 undersized dhuies, a bonito and a feed of swallowtail to make it all worthwhile.

Yesterday's trip started off without much of a plan, I had loaded the tinny up with a range of setups but with a big swell forecast I wasn't sure where I'd end up.
With no wind I decided to anchor and burley at a spot I've done well at before and is sort of sheltered, quickly picked up some Skippy on the soft plastics which were turned into strips of bait for a lone sambo. Had fun with swallowtail, undersized snapper, a little dhuie and a legal queenie on the bream gear before pulling anchor and heading in to the glassy shallows for a squid.

Unreal to watch them appear out of the weed and I soon had two onboard. Also had a group of whales put on a show 40m from the tinny and had one go straight underneath me in 7m of water which was awesome to watch although slightly worrying.
Noticed a huge school of what I though were Mulies feeding on tiny baitfish so rigged up with one of my brothers bream flys and had a few casts at the school. Hooked up a number of times but only managed to land one big slimy mack before I decided to have a quick jig out the back of westcape.

Scored a nice harlequin and three little tuna before something big moved in, first off on my 30lb setup, then the avet with 40lb, then the penn950 with 50lb and finally the tyrnos with 80lb. Whatever they were would hit the jigs about 10m under the boat then just go nuts, with screaming runs before either reefing me or busting the leaders. Usually most sambos and kings can be turned around and beaten on 40lb but I just had no chance.

Started feeling pretty crook rolling around near the cliffs so decided to call it a day.

Just received my new order of jigs today, so hopefully I'll shoot out for a quick trip after work tomorrow.
Might try a lighter drag and see if they'll stay up off the reef instead.

Still thinking about the unstoppables from the weekend I decided to shoot out for a midweek session yesterday evening.
Made the 20min trip flat out over near perfect conditions and started jigging, picked up a few Blackarse, sgt bakers and swallowtail before the wind and rain started. Decided to head in to more sheltered grounds for a quick drop before going home. Picked up two legal dhuies within a few drops then it was flat out back to the beach and home by 8pm 8pm.

Righto about time I put up a report from the weekend... After spending Saturday moving from redneck, banjo playing country into the vz and ba v8 ghetto of Albany I was pretty eager to escape out onto the water Sunday.

Headed out from Hartmans just before sunrise with conditions nearly perfect and started cruising out to my usual offshore grounds.
About a km or so from the spot I came across a small lump coming from 55-50m with fish showing on the sounder. Decided to give the spot a crack and dropped a jig over the side, didn't take long before I had a solid hit. 10 minutes later a solid pinky of about 80cm was boatside, I released him after a quick picture into the esky and reset the drift ready for some more action

Things went slow for a bit with only a few Blackarse, another little sambo and some sgt bakers hitting the deck. Have to admit that the weather was unreal though.

Spotted two big fish on the sounder and dropped the jig to the bottom, bounced it up a few times before cranking it up 15 or so metres hoping to excite whatever was down there.
The jig got smashed and the 30lb braid started peeling off in short sharp runs which had me thinking maybe 40lb leader wasn't so smart.
The battle continued with me gaining a few metres at a time, eventually a big snapper was boatside and beaten. I could tell the fish wasn't going to be released so I sank the gaff in and pulled it onboard.

It nearly made the metre mark coming in at 97cm but was a seriously solid fish.

Ended up landing 5 pinkys, two sambos, the harlequin and probably a dozen Blackarse/sgt bakers before deciding to try and find some bigger sambos.
Managed to find a big school of Mulies that had a few bigger fish underneath but didn't have any more luck.

Awesome beast of a Snapper. Yeah Lefty I know roughly where Trav goes. It definitely appears to be the better side of the coast in general. It's a long haul from Albany ramps or a beach launch to be closer. I'm not keen to beach launch too often on my own with a fibreglass boat.

Weather is pretty average down here this weekend so decided to trade the heavy gear in for the breaming setups and head west it the family.
Arrived at the spot at 10am and chucked out a few half Mulies on 8lb leader and 5lb main line, along with some burley. Didn't take long before our first take only metres from the shore, knowing that there isn't much the fish can bust you off on, I was able to play it with a light drag and soon had a nice pinky up on the beach.

Followed it up with another about 30mins later before the Mrs and I dropped one each which seemed to bring the action to a stop.
Called it a day at 12 just as the sun decided to come out

Plenty around at night. The only thing is they don't taste as nice as ocean caught ones. I'm trying soaking in milk and see if that makes a difference. If it does I might keep a couple more, if not it'll be all catch and release. Awesome fun anyway especially if the slightly bigger ones show up.

Yeah soaking in milk helps with the taste but you can still taste a slight muddy flavour. So catch and release inlet Pinky Breaming in future.

After a failed inlet snapper trip Friday night my younger brother and I were down the beach with the tinny at 530 Saturday morning hoping to jig up a few sambos.

The forecast was looking reasonably good so we shot out to explore any more ground around the spot I caught the last lot of snapper. The wind and chop started picking up half way out but with my brother showing no signs of spewing we battled on and were soon at the spot.
Set up a few hundred metres from last time and dropped our jigs the 55m to the bottom, the wind made things hard (along with a few whitecaps coming over the side) but we weren't disappointed with the results.

Just about every drop saw hookups, with swallowtail, nannies, breaksea cod, a few sgt bakers. Along with a nice snapper for me and a queen snapper for my brother on his 10lb setup.

Knowing that the wind probably wasn't going to drop off we pulled the pin and pushed out behind westcape into a stiff nor wester still hopeful of a sambo.
Picked up a couple of undersized dhuies and lost a good fish to the reef before having to switch to my 10l sub tank (usually get a 8 hour day and 50km to a 20l tank) so we decided to call it a day and chug back to the beach.
