Cheers. Leader is just 40lb black magic tough trace, I run 3-4m tied straight to my 40lb mainline. No idea on the knot I use haha but it works, pretty unreal the amount of pressure you can put on a fish with it.

Hell yeah just the Groper alone would've been worth the overnighter plus the Snapper, awesome going again. Eating well in the next few days especially with the Harlequin from the better half as well.

Been a little slack at putting up reports lately, picked up a old half cab as a restro project so haven't been out a lot.
Had a good break in the weather a couple weeks back which saw a near perfect forecast but unfortunately coincided with a full moon which I've never had much luck down here with. But breaks in the weather don't come by too often so I dragged the Mrs out of bed pretty early and made our way out to my snapper spot.
Megan dropped something half decent first drop before landing her first Queenie and first fish on jig (since that I've had to buy two new jigging rods for her haha) that was followed by a few swallowtail and Sgt Baker's while I struggled through missed hookups and dropped fish alongside the boat.

We shifted a few times but just couldn't find feeding fish, only the odd small breaksea cod and Sgt Baker's were popping up and my decky was starting to feel the affects of not wearing her hat so we decided to start heading in via one more little spot a bit further out.
I decided to give bait a crack while Megan elected to use a 6in grub and 1oz jighead on her 2-4kg bream setup.
I picked up a lonely scorpion cod while Megan had a good take on her plastic, the 4000 size sienna copped a workout with the drag singing as 12lb braid poured out. Eventually the fish began to tire and a very pretty pinky came aboard and released into the esky.

After that we decided to call it a trip with a quick spew stop for Megan before hitting the beach.

Then yesterday I decided to head out on a solo trip hoping to burley up some extra large pinkys from a spot along the cliffs. The weather was its typical Albany self (good during the week and crap on the weekend) which saw me being the only one at the beach ready to launch.
Copped a few waves up over the gunnels as I slowly made my way out into a stiff south Easterly and a decent chop, but made it out to my spot in high spirits.
Anchored up and began to burley with a mix of salmon, bonito and Skippy frames and sent two herring baits over the side. Played around with a little jig on my 1-3kg bream setup on some small Skippy and undersized swallow Tail before winding in a filthy big eel on the herring bait which had made a mess of my rig.
Adding to that the swell and wind was causing the tinny to swing around and drag the anchor, so I fired the Yamaha up, pulled anchor and putted my way out behind Westcape howe to another one of my favorite spots.

After watching the waves for a while I swung the boat into position and set about jigging. Didn't take long before i was onto a good fish which I called for a queenie due to its head shakes and runs. Sure enough a nice Queenie came up from the depths ready for a photo.

I repositioned the tinny and dropped again, straight away I was on and a little flathead was brought aboard. While not an overly exciting fish its a first on jig for me and a worthy photo moment

I Copped a few solid wacks from the waves and backwash off the cliffs out there but the good old busta held up well, although it'd be nice to punch into waves rather than launch off the tops of them

I kept fishing the area using jigs, plastics and baits but the fish wouldn't play along with only a undersized dhuie, small breaksea and a Sgt Baker coming up over the next couple of hours.
The conditions weren't improving so I decided one last drop before I'd call it a day, fortunately for me another queeny couldn't resist my orange 100g jig and was released into the esky to finish up my keepers for the day.

Had a troll on the way in for next trips bait but didn't get a single hit which is odd for this time of year.

You do realize that a bad day for you would be the best day out for the year over here.
The Queeny would be fish of the month.

Got out for a fish last weekend for the great southern spectacular, wasn't going to enter as I've had limited experience heading out from town but knew I'd kick myself if I didn't enter then went out and caught something good.
Soon become apparent that I was going to be the smallest boat there with some monster cats and single hulls being towed in with f250s and oversized signs but I wasn't phased as the starting siren sounded and boats shot out to the horizon.

With the forecast for a strong westerly to pick up as the day went on id decided to stick to what I know and made the long trip West to my usual ground (think the shelf is nearly closer) but the fish didn't want to play with only small breaksea, snapper, queenies and dhuies coming up along with a couple sambos and kingys meaning I didn't win any prizes but did out fish a number of bigger boats that went deep

Then with Albanys typical great midweek weather I decided that I was too sick to go to work and enlisted my brother for a trip out after some snapper.
We went back to basics with a bag of mulies and anchored up with some burley, didn't take too long before my rod took off with a little sambo soon on board

Decided to anchor up again which saw Dylan hook a just undersized dhuie that was nailed by a monster sambo just under the tinny, I rigged one of the Skippy up on the tyrnos but only attracted a big shark which made light work of my mono leader.
Dylan managed another sambo on his line while I got reefed twice in 10min by something that felt very snapperish

We ended the day chasing herring on slices with a pod of dolphins hanging around the boat which made the herring very aerobatic having the dolphins following millimeters away.

Well it seems like Albany's winter weather is setting in with horrible fronts conveniently coming through each weekend followed by some great days during the week, yesterday was one such day and at roughly 330pm I decided screw it I'm going on a late night adventure.
Knocked off work at 430, shot off home, got organised, dropped into bcf for a bag of squid and hit the road, finally arriving at the beach around 6pm.

I launched the tinny and went into stealth mode cruising making my way out to my favorite snapper spot under the cover of darkness with only the occasional glimpse of the moon from behind clouds lighting up the ocean.
With ideal conditions I sat at a comfortable 30kph and soon arrived at my spot, originally I had intended to anchor up but with very little wind and current I decided to keep the engine running and drift instead.

Rigged up the avet with 60lb leader, a small running sinker and a set of snelled 6/0s before baiting up and casting well in front of the drift.
Didn't take long until my squid bait was hit and I was on, with the rod tip bouncing all over the place I called it for a pinky or Queenie, but was pretty surprised when a little sambo popped up boatside as I'd never caught one at night before.

That sambo was released into the esky destined to become a curry later this week, which was followed by another few similar sized fish, which while fun to catch they just weren't my target fish for the night.
So I shifted another 50m away from the school and was instantly on, this time the fight wasn't the high intensity fight of a sambo but slower very powerful runs which made quick work of my 40lb braid on the reef fifty metres below.

I reset the drift while making a new rig, cast out and was on again. This time it was my target fish with a beautiful little pinky coming up from the depths

That pinky set the pace for the next couple hours with another five nice pinkys making it onboard the boat, along with a number of missed hookups and a few more big unstoppable beasts that had no intention of coming up for a look.

Decided it was time to start heading home around 1130 as the wind had picked up a little and a decent sized shark was hanging around with its tail breaking the surface every now and then, which was slightly unnerving.
Other than the shark it was an unreal night out, which made my three hours of sleep before work today worthwhile.

Headed out Sunday lunch time in search of some GetFishing comp winning fish (really wanted a pinky to win a new Garmin striker 5dv)
Conditions were pretty average with a large swell and 15knot winds but the forecast suggested it'd drop off in the evening, so decided I'd troll up some bait before settling down offshore for the night.

Was very slow going with only a lone bonito to show for a few hours work, when suddenly my spheros 10000 started singing with line disappearing at a brisk pace. I grabbed the rod knocked the outboard out of gear and the my other line went off too, now looking back I probably should have put the spheros down and fought the other fish first but I didn't.
I started getting line back on the spheros while keeping an eye on the little strudrick sienna combo which didn't seem to be doing much, finally got my fish to the boat before it took off on another run. A quick glance at the sienna revealed that the spool was close to empty and a split second later it stopped spinning, was torn out of rod holder, landing a metre from the tinny where it sat momentarily before screaming down into the deep blue.
Kept myself reasonably calm about the situation and was soon able to have my fish, a stripe tuna which would become bait.

Had another hour or so to kill before sunset so hit up a lump I haven't tried for a while with the jigs for pretty much stuff all, only picked up a Skippy and a little breaksea which had me starting to wonder if I should have stayed home instead.
Moved across to my snapper spot and dropped a slice of tuna and a while squid over the side which attracted the attention of some small sambos that have recently moved onto that spot. Eventually managed a little pinky which lifted my spirits and got reefed twice before the sharks moved in.
One or two sharks a session out there isn't uncommon but within 40minutes I was bitten off 5 times and managed to get another 2 1.5-2m sharks to the boat. Redoing rigs in the dark coupled with a big swell got old pretty quickly and I soon felt pretty crook and decided to call it an early night.

Usually I cut nearly all my lights whilst travelling out there to keep my night vision but I'd seen two commercial fishing vessels earlier in the night so kept the tinny lit up like a Christmas tree on the way in which lead to another problem. I couldn't see a bloody thing once I was trying to navigate the reef and islands near the beach, my navionics on the tablet froze between a island and rocks and my handheld spotty couldn't shine through the salty mist from the breaking waves.
Trying to get my bearings I cut the engine so I could hear where the waves were breaking, took me 25mins to make my way a whole 2-300m back to the safety of the beach.

Then Tuesday came around with a perfect clear sky and light winds that were forecast to drop to nothing late in the afternoon, so I knocked off work early jumped back in the old lux and was back at the beach by 4pm.
There was still a reasonable beach surge but I was soon underway and cruising out to my spot at a lazy 36kph, reaching it just as the sun started to set.

Things were looking good with a thick bait school on the sounder with bigger fish on both the top and bottom of it.
Didn't take long to discover the fish on top were sambos which were good fun to help pass the time.

But the big fish under the bait school were a lot harder to tempt, I tried bonito, tuna, squid and Skippy before I finally connected to one. I was able to get a few quick winds of the avet in, the the fish woke up with some wild head shakes and a dash back down into the reef where my 40lb leader didn't stand a chance.
After some choice words I re rigged when I saw my other rod receiving some attention, I let the circle hooks work their magic and was soon on. I called it for either a little pinky or nanny and was pretty stoked when the biggest nanny I've seem in water under 150m popped up along the tinny

I reset my drift over the baitfish and dropped both rods over again. Within minutes I was on again with both rods bowing over towards the sea.
Not wanting a repeat of the previous trip I moved one rod onto a holder on my console and cranked up the drag on the avet which made short work of another sambo, which was quickly released before getting straight onto the other rod.
I called it for being perhaps another monster nanny, but instead a healthy little dhuie came up from the depths and was destined for the esky.

After that the action suddenly died off with only the lone swallow Tail falling victim to the tinny esky. Decided to call it a night around 930 (bloody work) and headed back to the beach in stealth mode which made for a nice easy navigation of the rocks and a quick retieve.

Decided to get some work done on the tinny that ive been wanting to do for ages.
Removed the rear bench seat and replaced it with removable flush mount seats which opens up a hell of a lot of room. Lifted the deck 60mm to allow the floor to span the whole width of the boat, also allows me room under the deck for a killtank.
Also upgraded my fuel tanks to twin 45s and shifted them up under the front seat, they sit below the original floor height which has helped lower some weight and should see the tinny plane a touch sooner.
A new full length floor and a console thanks to 20% off at super cheap auto, plan is to flush mount a Garmin 7dv striker to it, have a elite5m on top and add a few shelves for tackle inside.

Actually been a lot larger project then what i had originally thought but its all nearly ready to get back on the water

Yeah thought about getting a console made or building one myself but decided on the toolbox instead. Going to use 4 big stainless bolts though the floor and some right angle Ali around the base screwed into the floor, hopefully that'll make it solid enough haha.
Got the beast serviced today so should be right for another few hundred hours now

Finally got the boat mods finished and with a small break in the weather Saturday morning I was keen to get out and test the tinny along with some new setups before Exmouth.
Headed out from Emu point and made my way south of Bald head to some possible spots I'd marked on navionics, both of which came up blank so I shifted across to mauld reef where a heap of bait was showing on the sounder

Pulled out one of the new setups (4000 vadel with 30lb sunline and a 3-6kg zeikel rod) and had a few drifts, picked up a few sizeable Skippy and swallowtail but nothing else.
Shifted to another ledge and pulled out my hrf with 20lb on a little pe1-2 rod, rigged up a soft plastic and was quickly on to a nice kingy that was soon put into the kill tank
