Name: Patrick Breslin Committee: Human Rights Subject: Human Trafficking Proposed by: Djibouti The General Assembly, 1) Fully aware of human trafficking, the illegal trade and sale of humans for labor or 2) prostitution, as a global issue that requires additional attention to be resolved, 3) Recognizing that over two million, four hundred thousand people are trafficked at any 4) moment and about seven hundred thousand people are trafficked over boarders annually, 5) Deeply conscious of the causes for human trafficking such as the desires for money, free 6) labor, and sexual exploitation, 7) Cognizant of the widespread state of poverty in many developing countries and the 8) increasing demand for cheap labor from developed countries, 9) Noting with approval the recent efforts made to counteract human trafficking like The 10) Protocol to Prevent, Suppress and Punish Trafficking in Persons, especially Women and 11) Children and the Blue Heart Campaign Against Human Trafficking, 12) Noting with deep concern that some countries, specifically those less developed and less 13) industrialized, are continuing to fail to uphold the standards set by the United Nations, 14) Approving of the efforts and campaigns already made for the increased publicity about 15) human trafficking, 16) 1. Encourages developed countries to continue advocating the protocol mentioned above 17) and encourages developing countries to bring more attention to human trafficking; 18) 2. Supports increased publicity on the issue worldwide through social media or other 19) cheap forms of advertisement; 20) 3. Invites developed countries and its citizens to donate to the United Nations Voluntary 21) Trust Fund on Human Trafficking; 22) 4. Calls for heightened security around borders with high rates of human trafficking to 23) lower the amount of people trafficked across international borders; 24) 5. Requests for the termination of alliances between government and known traffickers 25) as well as harsher punishments for traffickers in general; 26) 6. Urges the United Nations to create closer ties with governments suspected to have 27) relations with human traffickers, have the countries more closely follow the protocol, 28) and impose incentives if necessary.
