Thomas Lin- Illegal Drug Trafficking (Resolution)
Topic Started: Dec 6 2014, 10:43 AM (98 Views)

Name: Thomas Lin
Committee: Global Security
Subject: Illegal Drug Trafficking
Proposed By: Taiwan (ROC)

The General Assembly
1) Aware of the issues involving illegal drug trafficking
2) such as effects of drugs such as heroin, and opium
3) along with size of the illegal drug market
4) Keeping in mind Taiwan's location as a hot spot involving drug trade
5) as well as being within the outskirts of several big opium growth plants.
6) Observing that international actions against drug trade such as the DEA (Drug Enforcement Administration) in America
7) still can not quench the increase of drug trafficking and crime.
8) Realizing the economic and social conflicts influence decisions and choices
9) involved with drug trafficking and drug usage.
10) Keeping in Mind that the United Nations has not done enough action against drug trafficking 11) including
A) Developing the UNODC to research and develop strategies to stop drug trade,
B) Discussing drug trafficking issues in conventions,
C) But, not sending direct aid for countries struggling with drug trafficking.
12) Having heard that the UNODC has been allocated "less that one percent" of the UN's Budget
13) Bearing mind Taiwan’s history with drug trafficking, and prosecution for drug crimes.
14) Convinced that mental rehabilitation needs more support in order to become more potent
15) and that more need to be informed about rehabilitation methods against addiction
16) Deeply concerned on the rise of drug related crimes, the increase of drug trafficking cases, 17) and the increased usage of drugs internationally.
18) 1. Emphasizes on the need to invest on rehabilitation and prevention against drug addictions
19) and counter drug usage by stopping influences that guide people into the thought of drug use,
20) 2. Supports the UNODC’s need for the UN to allocate more towards the UNODC in hopes to
21) excel against illegal drug trading, as well as funding drug addiction prevention methods,
22) 3. Invites other nations within the UN (For example the EU, US, etc) to contribute more into
23) the fight against drug trade internationally,
24) 4. Further reminds that drug trade is an international fight, not just one to be fought alone,
25) 5. Recommends that penalties for drug related crimes should involve punishments that are
26) harsher than regular prosecutions of trafficking, since drugs pose a threat to human’s mental
27) and physical health,
28) 6. Expresses it’s hope in which illegal drug trafficking will decrease in frequency and
29) that illegal drug trafficking will eventually be more under control internationally.

An important thing to remember when writing a resolution is that the entire U.N. Global Security council will be considering adopting it - meaning they agree to everything written in it. Lines 4-5 only concern your nation, however. This would be fine if not for your usage of 'our' in the resolution, because now you're suggesting that the entire U.N. is a hotspot for drug trade. :P

I would recommend changing 'our' to 'Taiwan's' or even scratching the line altogether - your resolution is long enough to go without it.

A couple other things to consider - for declarative clauses (sentences that begin with italics) must end with commas (for instance, "Recognizes the efforts of such and such to end poverty,").

Also, on line 12, it looks like you started a thought then forgot about it - the UNODC has received what?

Change those 3 things, resubmit here, and you've got a great resolution! :)

Paper Has Been Revised. Revision's will be on the Forum Topic
Also, I've added the Italicization and Underlining as well as the Meaning of the acronym DEA; which may have messed up the paper's format.
