Perhaps I ought to apologize for reading this so late! Anyways, I don't appear to have the ability to open .pages documents. I'm sorry about that, but could you please copy+paste it here so I can read it? Don't worry about formatting if it gets butchered by the forums. :)

Committee: Human Rights
Subject: Torture and Punishment
Proposed by: Taiwan (ROC)
Delegate: Pam Pam Gwo
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
Deeply concerned by the fact that torture occurs in 141 different countries,

Viewing with appreciation that the United Nations has taken measures to fight against torture, such as condemning acts of torture in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and creating the United Nations Convention Against Torture,

Alarmed by the fact that although 155 countries have ratified the United Nations Convention Against Torture, many of them still practice torture,

Noting further that 44% of people around the world do not feel completely safe from torture by authorities in their country,

Fully aware that some developing countries use torture as a method of punishment,

Having considered that torture is also used to extract information from prisoners,

Recognizing the existence of the Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman, or Degrading Treatment or Punishment, or the “Torture Convention”,

Expressing its appreciation for the UN’s voluntary fund for victims of torture,

Believing that citizens of every country should feel safe from torture and cruel punishment,
1. Expresses its hope that the UN will draw more attention to the issue of torture through social media or other easily accessed forms of communication;

2. Encourages the UN to put more focus on countries that engage in activities of torture, especially those who are part of the “Torture Convention”;

3. Further recommends that the UN more vigilantly supervises the countries that promised to eliminate torture and impose punishments, such as fines, for violations;

4. Requests that the UN creates guidelines of what does and does not count as “torture”;

5. Calls upon the governments of more developed countries to stop the practice of torture to set an example for other countries;

6. Endorses the cause of the UN’s voluntary fund for the victims of torture;

7. Further invites the UN to draw more attention to the funds or create other programs to help victims of torture recover;

8. Regrets that torture is so prevalent among so many countries and hopes that the UN and other countries will work together to eradicate it.
