Committee: Health and Human Services Subject: Food Safety Proposed by Taiwan The General Assembly, 1) Taking note the inadequate food safety practices, 2) Noting further that foodborne illnesses source from food service establishments and under 3) the mishandling and disregard for proper hygienic measures, food handlers are enabling 4) microbial contamination of food sold by vendors, 5) Bearing in mind that insufficient knowledge of hygiene and practices in food service 6) establishments and poor food distributions contribute to widespread food safety concerns, 7) Realizing that a lack of education in areas of poverty fails to inform food handlers of proper 8) practices to prevent the transmission of pathogens to food, 9) Fully aware that GMO’s, the product of first world countries, are also raising concerns, 10) Deeply disturbed by the fact that GM foods can cause allergies, make our bodies resistant to 11) antibodies and even lead to cancer because GM foods are made by mixing or adding proteins 12) that didn’t exists in the original plant, 13) Emphasizing that the effects of lacking food safety policies can be seen on a grand scale 14) because the victims are all over the world due to food supply globalization, population 15) mobility and international travels, 16) Seeking global attention to slow down any further rising food safety issues, 17) 1. Recommends funding for food safety data collection; 18) 2. Urges a food safety summit be held for nations to decide on a standard of how food safety 19) performances should be measured; 20) 3. Encourages education programs be provided on topics of contamination and hygiene 21) standards to not only the food handlers but also to the consumers in poor areas; 22) 4. Requests filtration systems be installed in public areas to prevent waterborne 23) illnesses that could cause foodborne illnesses; 24) 5. Invites all nations to actively pursue quality food safety practices as a continued 25) unified approach to a food safety reform. |
