Committee: Human Rights
Subject: Torture and Punishment
Proposed by: Taiwan (ROC)
Delegate: Pam Pam Gwo (254764)
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY,
Fully aware that the act of human trafficking is a huge violation of human rights,
Alarmed by the number of people that are subjected to human trafficking each year,
Having considered that poverty, lack of government regulation, and lack of education are all large causes of trafficking in developing countries,
Taking note that less educated citizens are much less likely to be employed, resulting in an increased likelihood of being trafficked,
Bearing in mind that developing countries are usually the source of trafficked persons,
Noting further that these victims are often brought to developed countries,
Observing that the people in charge of trafficking operations are often not caught or persecuted,
Convinced that human trafficking is a collaborative deed between many nations of the world,
Noting with satisfaction that the United Nations has put great effort into the cause of eradicating human trafficking,
Expressing its appreciation for the United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime and the cause that it fights for,
Recognizing the UN’s World Day against Trafficking in persons and its Global Plan of Action to Combat Trafficking in Persons,
1. Expresses its appreciation for the UN’s current effort towards fighting human trafficking;
2. Further invites the UN to continue to draw global attention to the issue, create voluntary funds to support the victims, and urge nations to implement the convention against trafficking;
3. Recommends that all nations have some form of legislation against human transport and trafficking;
4. Calls upon all nations to stabilize their economies and ensure that all citizens of both genders receive a balanced education;
5. Encourages nations to create gender equality both in the work force and in society;
6. Requests that developed nations tighten their border security to keep out trafficked humans and cease the deplorable act of trafficking within their borders;
7. Further requests that the governments and police forces of nations find and incarcerate those that are in charge of trafficking operations rather than blame the victims of trafficking;
8. Expresses its hope that all nations will work together in order to eliminate this violation of human rights from the world.
