Time To See If There Are Any On Sale...; I see two Blockbusters are going OOB

I see in Sarasota, two Blockbusters are going bust.

Big signs that everything must go.

Now to convince Doctor Partner to go in and scope out any Doctor Who that might be in those two locations....

As much as I hate to see any business go under, I hope people will give further support to the locally owned independant video shops who were here before the big chains.

We have an independent DVD store that has put the big chain stores out of business. I think it's happening all over.

Here in the UK it's primarily the Internet plus second hand (used) retailers that are putting the larger DVD stores out of business.

We still have some Blockbusters around, but they are rubbish, and so much dearer than the likes of Amazon or Cex.

You know, that was a good idea to check out the video stores that are closing for any Doctor Who or other videos that we might want.

Why didn't I think of that now that most of them are closed? :wall:

Anyway, our Blockbusters, Hollywood Video, and independent stores are pretty much all closing.

With Netflix (which is what we have) plus all the ways to watch online nowdays, I suppose it really isn't a surprise to see this happen.

Yet, I feel for those people who are losing jobs, particularly in this economy.

Hollywood Video and Movie Library have both already been gone for over 2 years. Blockbuster is about the last one around here.

My best buddy had a video store when we first arrived on Siesta Key but when Blockbuster opened, that put HIM out of business.

i knew a man in neosho, mo WHO bought and started four independent video stores when videos were brand new. (they even rented video disks - remember them?) then set up each of his four kids in business for themselves. now they are all millionaires. the american dream.

That's a great story about that man who bought the stores for his kids.

I wish I could be as creative as that gentleman.

Do you ever come up with simple ideas to do things and then see later on tv where someone else has patented the idea?

Then you kick yourself and say, "Why didn't I follow through?" :thud:

Oh, well. . . .that's ok--guess I wasn't meant to be rich and famous in this life.

The secret to that is to keep it under your hat but pursue it.

We have a customer who told us years ago she had an idea while walking her dog.
Since it's a little toy poodle and hard to see at night going out, she wanted to rig up a flashlight somehow with the leash.

She had a mixed couples golf game with friends and they got talking about their dogs and she mentioned her idea.

Lo and behold....a year or so later she's in Petsmart and sees a hard case windup leash with a built-in flashlight in the handle-exactly what she described as her idea. Her mouth falls open and she grabs the package...sure enough it's a company that has an address in Florida and she tracks it down to the husband of the other couple.

He took her idea and ran with it....all the way to the bank.

She got nix.

very true.

oh, BTW just remembered. our friend had a very large working farm, at the TIME, but none of the four grown kids wanted to go into farming, so he sold it, and bought the video stores. so it wasn't all LUCK, part of it was having the working capital! :wink2: but you can't argue about his TIMing being excellent. :imfao:

No Blockbusters going out of business by me yet but I suspect it's only a matter of time. So glad I know longer work there as I'd hate to get downsized.
