I got a new tattoo yesterday. I emailed a photo to Tracy who dared me to post it in the Pets Corner at Tom's forum. I told her I'd ask all of you to vote on whether I should, and then said that I'd probably chicken out anyway. In my old age, I've gotten the nerve to get a tattoo, but not I'm yet old enough to have the nerve to post it at Tom's. Putting it here, though, is another story.... ![]() So here it is. For those of you who wonder, it's a dragon -- full face staring back at whomever is staring at it. And, it's on the left side of my chest -- right where I can flash it if I want to show it off, but can keep it under wraps if I don't.

Personally I would have said that there is no real place for it over there. I somehow doubt if Tom wants his fans to start comparing tattoos on his site. But here is fine, as this forum is for a more free and easy discussion of a greater variety of subjects. Pardon my ignorance but what is the relevance of the number under the dragon's face? Only meaningful number I know is 666. Thanks. |

Just as it's not a stupid question if you don't know the answer, it's also not ignorance if you don't know the answer. My dad was in the RCAF when I was growing up; so we moved a lot. My grandmother's street address number in Montreal was 547. Her house was pretty much the only "permanent" place we had. When I was a young teenager and my dad was stationed in Northern Quebec, I lived with my grandparents for 2 years while I was getting my teeth straightened (no orthodontist up north at that time). Over the years, especially in hard times, the number 547 seems to pop all over the place with a frequency that used to alarm me (checking the time and it's 5:47 AM or PM almost every day or getting a "quick pick" lottery ticket and those three numbers are on it). It only seems to happen when I'm in (or about to be in) stress (4 months before and for 2 years after my husband of 34 years walked out on me; then about 2 months before my mom died; and again about 2 months before I was diagnosed with breast cancer and that continued until my treatments were all done). I finally decided that maybe I had a guardian angel who was there to comfort me thru the hard times and that maybe it was my grandmother (who was my role model). So that's what the 547 is for. The two bees, by the way, represent my grandmother (she hated the idea of being called "Grandma" or any of the other standard grandmother names; so we called her "Honey" -- hence the bee) and my mother (who, I have a sneaking suspicion, is with Honey now). The dragon is my favourite creature (this is my 4th dragon tattoo and I have dragon figures all over the house) and I consider him to be my protector. He's on my left side because that's where the cancer was -- he's keeping away any recurrence (he'd better, if he knows what's good for him!). Well, that was more than I was planning to say. But that's my story and I'm sticking to it. |

You're welcome. Good thing you didn't ask me something that required a long answer, eh?

Wish I had the "umph" to get one..I would but Doctor Partner has fits if I mention a decorative ankle bracelet. I saw some very nicely 'jeweled' ones at one of our customers who did tats. Almost did it with my step daughter. She got the notion back 'round 1979 to do it but we couldn't decide where to put them. I thought a butterfly like a Monarch would be nice. She was thinking about a daisy but this is ages ago before they became so mainstream. I agree something like that requires a lot of thought as it's so intensely personal. One of my glass customers up in Maine has a lovely dragon that starts on her breast and goes over the shoulder and down to the small of her back. She also has multi-piercings in her ear up the outside end and has a variety of gemstones studs-- very attractive with her full blonde hair that reaches to her thighs. I wonder whatever happened to Karen...have to check Book of Faces and see if she's there. |

What a neat tattoo my tattoo buddy! So very cool. Also with fantastic meaning. I'm thinking of getting some form of foxy tattoo to remind myself of what I went through with my cancer...but I don't have the money although I suspect I've got the proper idea. Ever notice that when no one knows exactly how to address said topic they say "You should/could write a book" it happens to me all the time. Only ever been told once that I should write a book that wasn't about having survived cancer...oh adventure. Love the new ink...rock on Jaybee :D |

Thanks, Foxy. Took me a long time to figure out exactly what to put there. I wanted something to do with a dragon over the "affected part", but it had to have more meaning than just "I like dragons". I finally got it sorted out. Then told the artist that I wanted a western (as opposed to Chinese) dragon and that I didn't want him to look totally traditional. My artist is a bit of a graffiti guy; so when he showed me what he'd drawn, I loved it. I think I'm done now (I said that after the last one! ) -- I'm running out of places that won't sag when my skin goes all loosey-goosey on me. |

If it does end up being the last one...it's a nice choice. If you want another one...may I suggest the following image from my twitter profile http://twitter.com/desmoidsurvivor |
