A woman was in a serious condition today after being struck on the head by an air conditioning unit which fell from a building while she stood at a bus stop in a busy street.

The victim, who is in her early forties, was taken to hospital in the rush hour with severe head, arm and leg injuries after the freak accident.

An air ambulance was sent to the scene in York Road near London's Waterloo station, as well as a road ambulance and motorbike.

A spokeswoman for the London Ambulance Service said that the woman's injuries were not life-threatening.

She was taken to King's College hospital where she remains in a serious condition.

Onlookers who saw the appliance fall and hit the woman called the emergency services at about 9am and police cordoned off the street.

A police spokesman confirmed that the Health and Safety Executive had been informed.

Gee, I'm glad I have a portable unit now!

That thing almost looks big enough to be a TARDIS.

I hope the woman fully recovers. It's always sad to see freak accidents happen.

yikes!

i can't believe she survived!

but very glad she did.

wonder just how long it will take her to recover from her injuries?

is the british press good about following up on a story? i know here in the good old usofa generally, they are not.

How awful!

Was there ever a follow up as to how this poor soul is doing?

I don't know. I just came across it by accident when I was looking

seems follow up stories are few and between. reporters seem to loose interest rather quickly when a story is in. seems they are always off to someplace else. too bad someone doesn't start a news service just for follow up stories. like ...

what ever happened to ...

that woman WHO had all those babies and wasn't married? ...

or ...

that woman WHO drowned her two sons michael and alex? ...

or ...

how many foreign pilots we have contined to train in the u s since 9-11?

That's true, P.A. The news seems to go thru stories like fashion trends. It's sad, really.
