* 2 slayers killed
* 2 slayers injured

Day 10?

The Red Boar Inn...gone. The inhabitants brutally murdered by some creatures of the forest. Tracks were left behind, strange inhuman things. The hunt begins.

The tracks you follow continue south, after a while it becomes apparent they are heading back toward an area you explored previously (OOC: area 13).

OOC: At this point your turn 3 is done. If you wish to carry on the hunt it will be on the next turn.

OOC: for the sake of your map what you marked as turn 4 would still be turn 3. This is to say it is the spot where you found the dead mutants.

OOC: Thank you. Btw, for when I make a new one, which do you think looks better...the same color for the movement, or different ones for each turn?

OOC: same colour, otherwise you get the rainbow effect. :P

Incidentally I have taken your idea and made a map for each other player - abeit less detail than yours. I posted them all yesterday. :)

OOC: Thanks, and I updated the map.

Glad to see that the idea caught on. If you'd like to use the icons, I just looked in google images with icon size. Even if you just use the same icon each time...

Dwarf: Posted Image

Halfling: Posted Image

Slayer: Posted Image

The idea here is that if you want a master map for each turn (which could be kinda cool if you posted them all post campaign), it'd be a way to keep track of where everyone is.

OOC: Well with the 4 maps I was too lazy to do icons and such. I just did a line to trace the movements. A master map sounds interesting though. :)

OOC: some are still finishing turns so a little extra encounter for you. ;)

Still following the tracks you carry on, it is well past midday so you pause momentarily for food and ale refreshment. You stand by a tree and wonder how long it will take to catch the band you are tracking.

"Sir there's someone behind us!" calls out one of your slayers.

You all grab your weapons and turn to face whoever, whatever is coming. You hear the sound of many feet. Moments later you see a large company of humans approaching through the trees. To the front is a screen of fifteen or so hand-gunners and behind a force of around fifty halberdiers. They are all dressed in red and green livery with white-green feathers in their caps. Upon see you they halt their advance about 50 paces away. The halberdiers grasp their weapons is readiness for battle. meanwhile the handgunners cock back the firing mechanisms on their weapons but they do not yet shoot. At the front of the halberdiers unit a man steps forward. You see he is a dark haired human bearing a long-sword and wearing a plumed helmet, evidently the captain.

"I am captain Tallern of the army of Hochland, of the Krudenwald 1st Battalion" he calls out. "I request that you identify yourselves at once!"

ooc: I wholeheartedly approve! :D

The company of dwarfs halted. As the captain made his request, one of the dwarfs shouted out:

"Ye are in the company o' Kragdin's Skullcrackers!" Laughter rose at this, as one by one the slayers each made claim to the group.

"Ye mean Boli's Brewmasters!"
"The dawi o' Bori the brave!"
"Ha! Ye're all the lads o' Borgrim Woodborn!"
"Sven's Shinkickers!"

One by one the slayers started competing with each other to see who could yell the loudest, to make claim to the group.

"Snorri's Alehounds!"
"Skarphedon's Skulltakers!"
"Norin's Numbskulls!"
"Gloin's Groinkickers!"
"Thorek's Bloodfists!"

By this time the company of slayers began to truly get into their little game, becoming more raucous by the minute. If there was any fear, or anger, at having so many handguns and halberds pointed at them, they didn't show it.

"Thorin's Birchshields!"
"Oin's Uglies!"
"Bifur's Beaters!"
"Krag's Cragbreakers!"
"Lifur's Lifetakers!"

Laughter started to reverberate throughout the forest, most likely to the confusion of the soldiers.

"Alaric's Alestalkers!"
"Angrim's Grimlings!"
"Durgrim's Doomsons!"
"Gorazin's Gorfighters!"
"Ranulf's Racers!"

With the contest nearly over, the last four slayers were being stared at by their eager companions.

"Ulrik's Firefists!"
"Krung's Wazzoks!"
"Ragni's Oathbound!"

There was but one dwarf left. Thorgrim, who stood alone, looking around with an air more sullen than usual. Without a tongue, he was the only dwarf who couldn't take part in the competition. After a moment, one of the slayers screamed "Thorgrim's Undertakers!"

Then, as one, twenty three dwarfs yelled as one "THORGRIM'S UNDERTAKERS!" For his part, Thorgrim barely contained the blush that came to his cheeks, instead a notch on his axe to suddenly become exceptionally interesting. There was much laughter, back slapping, and of course, drinking. Naturally, nobody even thought to address the humans.

Throughout the roarious display the captain remained silent, unmoved and unflinching.

"So Thorgrim's Undertakers." His eyes fix on you, the one dwarf who had remained silent. "I believe you have recently visited the Red Bear Coaching Inn. Perhaps you can shed some light for me on what happened there?"

Thorgrim walked over to Borgrim and gave him a small push towards the captain. The ranger took a step forward and then addressed the human.

"Aye, we saw it. Went there to sell our beastie heads n' get a wee nip an' a wee kip. Imagine our surprise tae find that the place was pure dead. Took us quite some time to bury the dunderheeds, was right gingin. Found tracks leadin' away from the inn, nay be human or beastie. Most odd. But when we find 'em, we're gonna wallop 'em wan!"

The captain frowns as he takes measure of what Borgrim says. For a moment it is not clear whether he believes you or not. Finally he nods in acknowledgement.

"Yes my scouts found some strange tracks as well, along with those made by yourselves. You must forgive me if I seem wary but these are dangerous parts and one does not easily trust strangers. Three days ago a coachman rode into Krudenwald and reported that the Red Bear had been attacked, it's occupants butchered and hung on trees with crude messages carved into their flesh. The town magistrates ordered me to take a hundred men and investigate. It took us two days march to reach the Inn, I guess we arrived not long after you had left. Anyhow I left part of my company to reoccupy the building then the rest of us set out into the forest following the two sets of tracks until we found you. If what you say is true I must thank you for burying our dead. Also it seems we are united by the same purpose in hunting these fiends, whatever they may be. Unfortunately however these tracks go on further and it is beyond my remit to pursue any deeper into the forest. However as soon as I report back my findings a bounty will be placed on their heads paid out to whoever can kill them and bring back evidence. Meanwhile I can offer you some spare provisions if you need it."

"Aye! Any help ye could give would be grand. But I suppose what we need most to know is what ye think did this? I've been in the woods more than most, but have ne'er seen tracks quite like it. Nay be manling, beastie or elfling, far as I can see. That an'...ye would nay have any trackers with ye who know these woods well? For us tae track the killers down, would be good to have a local to help guide us, or at least to bring news o' our heroic deaths tae ye if we fail."

"I'm afraid the tracks are a mystery to us as well. No outlaws nor beastmen made them. But clearly they are something to be feared. Now as to the other thing, yes I have several trackers with me that know the forest, though even they seldom venture into the very heart of it. In the deepest part of the forest are the greatest concentrations of beastmen and there one also finds other creatures even more terrible." He hesitates, weighing up your request. "Very well" he says eventually "I will give you one of my scouts. But please remember he is not sworn to seek death, his task shall be to guide you to the quarry and no more."

He turns and calls one of his men: "Rudi, you are to go with them."

You see that the man who steps forth wears a brown tunic and a dark grey hooded cloak. He is middle-aged with greying hair that matches his cloak. He carries a sword and longbow. He approaches you with a hint of wariness, glancing at your bare tattooed chests and crests of tall orange hair.

"Well then if we are all done then I bid you good hunting" says the captain.
