Character Mini-Biography
Erik was born in Boscherville, a small town not far from Rouen, in the summer of 1831.

His hideous facial deformity was a defining factor of his life, something he was forced by his vain mother to hide behind a mask.... a tragic and difficult part of his childhood. At the age of nine, he ran away from home, never to return but taking the mask with him....

The events that followed in Erik’s life are many, a long tale to tell indeed, his journeys taking him from imprisonment as a freak show attraction, to living under the kind tutelage of a master mason.... He traveled much of the world including much of Europe, Asia, and eventually Persia, where he served for a time as the Shah’s court assassin, magician, and personal engineer.

This time spent in Persia came to an end once Erik had completed construction on the Shah’s new palace, the Shah attempting to put him to death for fear of Erik having learned too many secrets, having become far too dangerous to remain alive. Erik managed to escape this fate with the help of a Daroga he’d befriended, a man named Nadir.

After departing Persia, Erik wandered the world again for a time before he returned to Europe with the intention of returning at last to France. Before arriving there however, he stayed for a short time in London, where he met the vampire Mylor Severianus. In another chain of events, much of which remains shrouded in mystery, Erik accepted the offer of his new undead friend, openly accepting the embrace of vampirism in hopes that the regenerative powers of the vampire would heal his deformity.... Alas it did not, and shortly afterward Erik continued on his way to Paris.

Once there he assisted the man solely credited for the construction of the Paris Opera House, Charles Garnier in its construction, secretly building a labyrinth of his own in the lowest levels, including a lair in which he could live safely away from the public.

The events that follow in the preceding years were chronicled, accurately at times, but in some cases straying far from the truth, in the famous novel Le Fantôme De L'Opèra by Gaston Leroux.... something Erik decided to allow for reasons of his own.

Much of what occurs in the story between Erik, now known as The Phantom, or Opera Ghost, and the young chorus girl Christine Daaé did happen as written, with the addition of her choosing willingly to become his first and only fledgling....

His love for Christine is what compelled him to spare her and the man she eventually chose to love over him.... Letting her go, and now exposed to the authorities (as an insane mortal), Erik disappeared....

He maintained a constant watch over Christine during the years that followed however, his fledgling believing him to have been destroyed or long since gone to ground never to reawake.... On the night of her husband, the Count Raoul de Chagny's funeral, despite the heartbreak that man had caused him, Erik paid his respects, leaving a rose on the gravesite.... a sign to his fledgling that he was still in fact watching.... He has never since given Christine such a sign, watching from the shadows as she eventually befriended a man with mysterious, godlike power..... a man named Michael.....
