Character Mini-Biography
Brom Ashmore was born during the Victorian Era in 1873 New York to an upper-middle class Christian family which strove to fit in with the higher levels of society, although never quite successfully.

Unlike his parents and more feet-on-the-ground older brother, Brom was a unique child, his head always way up in the clouds. A shy, antisocial, artistic and all around quiet boy, many people, his family included, believed that there was something wrong with him. Despite this fact, he loved his family, mother in particular. She understood him better than the others at least.

When he was twelve years of age, he discovered their church's priest brutally raping his mother, and in a fit of rage, he rushed to protect his mother with the closest object he could find: a fire poker. After violently bashing in the priest's skull, several times, he was subdued and taken away, his mother not even having the time to digest the shock of it all.

Despite the fact that he was protecting his parent, Brom was deemed psychologically disturbed and was thus committed to the New York City Lunatic Asylum on Blackwell's Island shortly after in the year 1885. He spent a total of eight years there before being released, the first two of which were particularly unpleasant as that was before the historical reform, a result of an expose written by a famous journalist in 1887.

Upon his release at the age of twenty, Brom learned that his brother had married and moved to the west coast along with his father, and his mother (the only one who had ever visited him, but had stopped some time before) had succumbed to sickness and died.

The next eight years of his life were a downward spiral, as he delved into the pleasures of sex and drugs such as opium, morphine and absinthe, losing himself in the clandestine underground dens where one could join others in partaking in such things as well as hazy, drug-fueled orgies. Needless to say, he was a man who cared little about himself or his health, yet he managed to make friends among those denizens in which he associated himself with, one of which was a seductive woman unlike any he had ever met.

Finally, on one fateful night at the dawn of the Edwardian Era (1901), which also happened to be his twenty-eighth birthday, he joined the vampire woman in her bed and was offered eternal life as her fledgling. Feeling as if he had nothing to lose and plenty to gain, Brom accepted.

Was it a mistake? He never thought so. However twenty-four years later in 1925, it was indeed a mistake when in a fit of rage, the reason for which he can no longer even remember, Brom destroyed his maker.

The seventy-eight years that followed were very much the same as before, the drugs replaced by mage blood and traditional vampire sustenance, the orgies continuing, although Brom only occasionally took part in those.

It was in one such vampire den, in the year 2003, when Brom decided to take pity on a teenage girl, drugged out of her mind as she was passed between vampires for both blood and body. Seeing something of himself in the nearly dead girl, Eve Hughes, he took her away to his home and turned her, taking his first and only fledgling.

The two of them have lived together under his roof in Manhattan ever since, and during that time, the self-destructive individual has calmed.... a little....
