Magic is, essentially, changing reality. While warriors, assassins, thieves, etc hurl through life like an arrow from a bow, a mage stops every once in a while to manipulate the threads of reality. Unfortunately, the strain of using magic is very dangerous, and harmful to the body if not carefully monitored. Different mages are able to manipulate the world in different ways - each mage can use magic from one of the following schools: Source
1) Magic is an inborn talent, and cannot be learned. 2) There are two styles of actually using magic: Sorcery and Wizardry. -Sorcery is an innate, raw form of magic which requires little study and work, and is better suited to bursts of high-powered magical energy than long-term magic use. Sorcery is often wild and unpredictable. -Wizardry is the style of magic characterized by long hours of study and work in order to refine one's talents. Due to the amount of time spent studying magic, Wizards are much more specialized than Sorcerors, and are usually more powerful as mages - most wizards can defeat most sorcerers in prolonged magic duels due to their superior magical power, but are more likely to have a narrower view of magic and life in general. 3) Magic has a cost - that is, using too much magic at once can knock out or kill the mage. If the mage is knocked out by magic, their maximum lifespan is shortened by up to five years, and they remain unconscious for several minutes to several days, depending on the failed spell's power. When magic is used, the power has to come from somewhere, be it a magical 'battery' item, their own life force, or another's life force. Edited by High Priest of Twig, Nov 23 2011, 12:49 PM.
