Tywin's eyes shot up briefly from the letter he was writing before turning back down. Wordlessly, he finished off the document and slipped it into its envelope before. Then he looked back up at the Queen of Thorns. "Lady Olenna, I do hope your journey from Highgarden was a pleasant one." he remarked in an automated manner, reaching across the large desk to grab a stick of red wax. "I have heard that you are not a woman to waste time or mince words, so I will not waste mine in turn. The King is dead and the Houses of Westeros have, as always they always do, set themselves to climbing the hierarchy set by him. With Robert gone, there's nobody to maintain the status quo he had established, and everyone wants to find themselves in positions of power by the time Joffrey is competent enough to establish his own. For centuries now, our two houses have been that power. We have resisted every attempt by other families to steal our position. If we were to fight now, be it through shadows and quills or with spears and swords, we would destroy each other, and the fringe powers would come to dominate our central position." he explained candidly, warming the wax above his candle, then dripping it onto the surface of the envelope. The fertile fields and flowering ports of the Reach have made you rich as the silver and gold mines of the West have made us. It would be foolish to waste such wealth on each other. I propose we join forces, bind the Gold Rose of Highgarden to the Gold Lion of Casterly Rock, and forge a power block that none of the other houses can hope to dislodge. Tyrell and Lannister will be the two pillars holding up the Crown, and none will have leverage to question our position in the Realm again." he finished, pressing his seal into the hot wax and looking back up at Olenna. |

Tywin looked up at that, his voice filled with a new degree of steeliness. "Because If I had not acted and seized Prince Oberyn, your benevolent friends to the South might already have been halfway to Oldtown by now. My daughter had been stomaching her marriage to Robert for years, do you truly think she'd go through years of it and then kill him anyway? Of course not. And even if that were somehow the case, do you think the Dornish would be the scapegoats of my choosing?" he shook his head. "I have no reason to antagonize the Dornish with false charges for no reason? Dorne is legitimately responsible, and I won't have them killing off more royals than they already have. In fact, Prince Doran would have had me make you the scapegoat, my Lady. He would have had me seize your grandchildren and cripple your house. The Dornish sun would have flown over Highgarden, if his wish had been granted. I saw little gain for my House in gains for the Martells, and so I instead acted in the interest of proper justice//. It is rare that the law and usefulness should work together so nicely for once." he explained, setting down his quill. |

"I can prove my words easily enough, though it seems you won't care to see as much either way. What I'm offering Highgarden is a more permanent seat in the hierarchy of the capital, and in turn, the Kingdoms. I had hoped to make your granddaughter a princess, even a Queen, perhaps, but she seems rather caught up." Tywin remarked, his eyes sparkling slightly at his mention of the Tyrell's Northern fiasco. "Regardless, I am happy to offer you the next best thing, a Princess of the Iron Throne, wed to Highgarden with the highest of honors and esteems. Myrcella may not be quite of age with the youngest of the Tyrell brood, but there have certainly been betrothals with greater differences in age. It would seal House Tyrell to the prestige of the Throne, and settle any rumors about Loras's… interests, all in one fell swoop." |

"It seems we are agreed then. The riches of the West and the fertility of the Reach will surely create a period of stability and prosperity unseen since Aegon V." Tywin proclaimed, reaching for the nearby pitcher of wine and pouring the crimson liquid into two golden goblets. "I doubt either one of us adheres to romance when it comes to arranging marriages, so I won't coddle the situation. They may not be happy about it, either of them, but I see no reason why they shouldn't get along. Myrcella is a virtuous little thing, and Loras is known for his sense of chivalry, perhaps they'll be lucky and enjoy one another's company. Either way, they should be able to tolerate each other easily enough, if nothing else. And I have heard that Highgarden is the finest place for a young lady to be raised." he said, offering one of the goblets to Olenna "So, shall we toast the bounty and future of our houses then, as the young and the idealistic are so wont to do?" he asked, one eyebrow slightly raised. |

Tywin took a sip from his goblet and shook his head slightly. "Nothing but baseless rumors and slander as usual, I'm sure. One can hardly trust word of mouth, least of all in King's Landing. I shall have some accommodations made ready for you in the Keep."

Tywin looked up from his desk and nodded at the news, gesturing silently for Olenna to take a seat if she wished. "I congratulate your granddaughter on her assured marital bliss." he mumbled absently-mindedly before closing the ledger he had been going through and turning in his chair to face the Queen of Thorns. "Myrcella's effects have been prepared for her, she should have no trouble accompanying you to Highgarden. I am sure the years she spends there before she is eligible to wed will be educational and peaceful." he remarked pointedly. "I won't insult you by attempting to incite some grandmotherly love for her, but I know you have always been good with girls of her age. She's a kind girl, and innocent to the true natures of the world. I don't expect you to indulge her in such a dangerous ignorance of the real world when she is closer to womanhood, but she needn't be brought before the frightening truth of it all just yet, I'm sure you'll agree?" he paused for a minute, and leaned in closer."I would appreciate it if she remained unharmed and well-cared for until then, and I trust your grandson will remain true to his honorable and chivalrous reputation." he told her, his voice hinting iron. It wasn't a threat, not really. Despite the need to project the power of Casterly Rock, there was a genuine concern for his granddaughter in the words as well. Despite what many of his own children might have thought, nothing was as vital to him as the well-being and survival of the Lannister name. A lion looked after and defended his pride, after all. From what he knew of Margeary Tyrell, he knew Olenna was more than capable of raising Myrcella into a clever and capable young woman, but if she were to do so among members of another family, it would always be his priority to ensure her safety there. |

"Then that will be all, I believe. I'll have Myrcella and her escort prepared to leave with you in the morning." he concluded. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- The following morning, Princess Myrcella stood in the courtyard of the Red Keep, her retinue gathered around her. She had had a teary good-bye with her mother, and her eyes were still red and puffy from it all. Her Governess, Septa Lynora, stood to her left, a comforting hand placed on Myrcella's shoulder, a reassuring smile on her face. Ser Arys Oakheart, clad in his freshly-pollished Kingsguard armor, stood nearby, and Myrcella was quietly glad that he would be going with them. He had always been kinder to her than the rest of father's Kingsguards, though none of them would treat her poorly, of course. Behind them, her three handmaidens stood, two older girls, one from Crownlands, one from the Stormlands and her cousin, Rosamund, who was Myrcella's age. She was glad for them too. She realized suddenly that these five would be the only people she would know in her new home, and it frightened her, the tears threatening to well up again as she thought of having to leave everything she'd grown used to behind. Septa Lynora quickly crouched down to her level and placed a hand on her cheek. "Hush now, your Highness, It'll be alright. The Reach is a wonderful place, full of flowers and gallant knights, and Ser Loras is said to be the most gallant of them all." she told her quietly, pulling the girl in for a reassuring squeeze and hoping she could at least hold her together until the carriage ride lulled the Princess off to sleep. |

Olenna entered the courtyard and surveyed those assembled there. It was easy to determine who Myrcella was, she looked so much like her mother. She wouldn’t have guessed that Myrcella was Robert’s little girl, but then sometimes that’s how things went. Olenna approached the girl. “Princess Myrcella, it is nice to meet you.” She said it in her most endearing voice. “I am Olenna Tyrell and will be accompanying you to Highgarden.” She could see that the girl looked uncomfortable, maybe nervous. “I think that you will find the Reach to be very agreeable. The weather is warm, the gardens are beautiful, the food is sweet and the people are friendly. In many ways, the Reach is everything that King’s Landing is not. But let’s not stand around talking about it, we should be on our way so that you can see for yourself.” And with that, she turned toward her coach and climbed aboard, turning back to young Myrcella and waving her along encouragingly. “Come along now.” |

Myrcella squeezed Lynora's hand once more before letting go and quietly making her way into the carriage. She looked down at her hands, praying for the safety of her family and herself as the carriage lurched forward. She looked across at Olenna curiously. She had never really had much of a grandparent, with only one, grandfather alive, and not an entirely over-attached one at that. She wasn't sure what to expect, but she smiled tentatively across at Olenna. "Thank you, My Lady. I'm a bit nervous, I have to admit. I don't know anything at all about the man I am to be wed to. How is Ser Loras?" |

The Princess smiled, properly this time, revealing a set of pristine teeth. It was a cleverly picked story, and she liked the meaning behind it, though the thought of who might be her "cricket" was an ominous one. And she was glad to hear Loras's reputation repeated once more. The more people she heard it from, the more she felt confident it was true. Despite herself, the cynicism of her mother had done little to temper a girl's childhood dreams of handsome princes and charming knights. "Thank you, Lady Olenna. I'm sure I'll love it at Highgarden, and I hope I'll be a good wife to Loras when I'm old enough." she chirped happily as the carriage rolled down through the city. She was old enough to know what that would entail, in the broadest of terms, though the long-term scope of it all was still overwhelming when compared to what few years of her life she could actually remember. Lost in thought, she soon began drifting off to sleep as the convoy made its way towards the Southwest. |

The King’s Road to Highgarden was long and uninteresting, taking better than two weeks at the leisurely pace that they travelled. Myrcella turned out to be a surprisingly good conversationalist once she began to relax and feel comfortable in Olenna’s presence. She was also remarkable curious asking countless questions making the journey mentally exhausting. As much as she enjoyed the girls company, Olenna began to relish the respites when Myrcella would gaze out the window quietly in contemplation. When Myrcella looked pensive, Olenna was torn between comforting her and enjoying the quietness but she usually succumbed to quelling her unease. On the twelfth day of their travel they were met by a party of knights who had ridden out from Highgarden to escort them back. Among the welcoming party was Lloras. He joined Myrcella and his grandmother in the coach while one of the guards led his horse. He was immediately struck by her beauty. Even for a man of his disposition, it couldn’t go unnoticed. He spent the next few days getting to know her, deciding very early on that she would serve as a very good cover for his lifestyle. Edited by Margaery Tyrell, Jun 5 2015, 12:51 PM.

While Olenna had likely journeyed up and down the Roseroad to King's Landing a dozen times before, it was a completely new experience for Myrcella. Her family had been bound to the capital for as long as she could remember. The one exception, their trip to Winterfell, had been magical enough, but to see the far-rolling hills and beautiful green fields of the Reach was a whole new world altogether. Even to a girl like Myrcella, with absolutely no education on the subject, it was clear how valuable and productive this much grassland had to be. To call Highgarden the Granary of Westeros was an understatement, she was sure. And she was glad to have made Lady Olenna's acquaintance. She had met dozens of prudish old women, most of them wives of similarly prudish old lords, in King's Landing, and Olenna was far more amiable by comparison. It was hard to guess just what the older woman knew, but Myrcella was certain she would have much to learn from the Queen of Thorns at Highgarden. When Loras joined them in the carriage, she was similarly excited with him. He was as outlandishly handsome as all the girls at court gossiped him to be, even a girl of Myrcella's age could tell that much. And he seemed kind and courteous. Moreover, he seemed far more relatable than any boy she'd met. Tommen was still young, Joffrey was… Joffrey, and her mother had likely driven off any other boys around her age with a pitchfork. While Ser Loras was far from "her age" he seemed to understand the mindset of a young girl far more than the usual lot that surrounded her father and brothers, though Myrcella couldn't quite pin why. Whatever the reason, she was well satisfied with their first impression, and it seemed to be mutual. Her nerves melted away more and more with each step towards Highgarden, and she found herself looking forward to her new life there more and more. |

The wheeled house rolled down the streets of Highgarden as onlookers eagerly tried to glimps who might be inside. As it passed between the outer and inner walls of the keep, the sight of the thorn labyrinth caught Myrcella's eye. Loras explained what it was and promised to bring her back to explore it on foot. When they finally came to a stop and the doors were opened, the three passengers disembarked to find an addition welcoming party. Loras made an announcement welcoming the Princess and his future bride to Highgarden which was met with enthusiastic applause. As it would be some while before the next mealtime, Loras set out about showing Myrcella her new home. Joining them was Peya Cupps, his cousin on his mothers side, and a girl of roughly the same age as Myrcella. They strolled through the gardens while Loras gave Myrcella a brief history lesson of the Reach. That was followed by a boat tour along the Mander. It seemed to Loras that the two girls hit it off rather well and he hoped that they may become friends, that the princess would be comfortable in Highgarden and be happy to make it her home. He knew that he didn't have to go out of his way on this account, but it made him feel better knowing that this had not been her choice. |
