Tyrion was let in to the the Chamber of the Hand by a guard. He stood in front of his father's desk, and gave him a small bow. "Good day father. I mentioned yesterday there was something I would like to talk to you about. Do you perhaps have some time at the moment? I believe it is a matter that may be of some interest to you, and House Lannister in general." He knew the importance his father held for the family. Not for its individuals of course, but for its legacy. And that's what this sword was all about.

Tywin continued penning the decree he had been working on, never raising his eyes from the parchment. He considered dragging the process for a few good minutes, but his son seemed to be unusually anticipative and demure. It was rare for Tyrion to ever take genuine interest in these conversations, so it had to be something worthwhile.

He dipped his quill in a fresh layer of ink. "Of interest to our House in general? Go on then, surprise me," he said, gesturing for Tyrion to sit down as he continued to scribble away.

Tyrion was surprised at how fast his father decided to actually address him. He didn't usually let Tyrion wait very long, as he did some other guests, but he normally had to put up with at least a few minutes of silence only interrupted by a faint scribbling.

Tyrion took the seat he was offered, and faced his father. He had spent all morning trying to figure out the best way to go about this, but he hadn't really come to a satisfying conclusion. Well, now wasn't a time to hesitate. "As you know, I sailed to Storm's End with a..." he searched for a better word, but decided there wasn't really all that much point "...pirate of sorts." His father knew anyway, and a pirate by any other name was still a pirate. "He'd sailed far and wide, and claimed to have sailed into Valyria and survived. Yes, I know that is highly unlikely, but let me finish. He had on board a Valyrian steel sword. Quite an impressive one, at that." Now here came the bit he was pretty sure his father would dismiss out of hand, if he didn't just dismiss everything in the first place. "He claims it to be Brightroar." He stopped there, to gauge his father's reaction so far.

The quill stopped in place upon the parchment. Tywin kept his eyes on the decree for a minute before looking up at Tyrion. "Brightroar. Once our proudest possession. The very thing my brother died looking for. And you mean to tell me some marauder brought it back from Old Valyria aboard his putrid, floating thieve's den?"

"No, I do not mean to tell you that. I am just telling you what he claimed it to be. But Brightroar or no, it is still a decent Valyrian sword, more than decent. The one thing that the Lannisters don't have anymore, and that we've always wanted back since it was lost. And who knows... Maybe a small pirate ship managed to sneak past a place where a whole fleet of ships got stopped in their tracks. I know these chances are minimal, but they exist. So either we get ourselves an impressive new Valyrian steel heirloom, or we regain one we once lost. Either way, we win." He waited for a reply, trying not to display his nervous excitement.

Tywin rubbed his chin. "If you can at least attest that it's genuine Valyrian Steel, then it is worth considering. But there's no sense making ourselves look desperate. There's more Valyrian Steel in the world than the average Valyrian Steel merchant might want you to think. Where is this pirate of yours, anyway?"

"I cannot guarantee that it is Valyrian steel, as I am no expert, but I'm sure that can easily be resolved. And as far as my knowledge on the subject stretches, this sword does seem like true Valyrian steel. The pattern and sharpness of the blade attest to that." He was pretty sure it was real, and an expert on the subject would easily be able to confirm. "Don't worry, I made sure to show no more interest than was necessary to get the man to agree to come here. Well... that was the original plan anyway. I'm afraid we were attacked on our journey back, and the captain and most of his crew perished. He entrusted the sword and the completion of this deal to a... friend of his, Lily of House Vyrwel. Daughter of Igon Vyrwel, as a matter of fact. She is here now, with the sword."

A little bit of worry started to nibble away at him. What if his father decided to just take the sword? There wasn't really anything to stop him doing so. Of course Tyrion had wanted to get as good a deal as possible, but that didn't mean he wanted to see Lily get completely ripped off... or worse.

Tywin sat quietly for a few minutes, turning to look out the window at the Blackwater. "The death of your original seller is itself a rather unpromising beginning. Though at least the sword has passed into more reputable hands now." he mused. "Very well, I'll give all of this the benefit of the doubt." he said, turning back to Tyrion.

He got up from his chair and strode around the table, to the side of the room where he opened a small door. Beyond the door lay his quarters and the more private rooms of the Tower of the Hand, and stationed on the far wall was a guard clad in the red cloak and armor of House Lannister. "Go and fetch some more of your men from Captain Vylarr. I want them in my Chamber immediately." he barked at the man before closing the door again, shutting out the sounds of the mans metal-clad steps rushing away to fulfill his orders.

Tywin caught Tyrion's worried look and shrugged his shoulders. "She may not be a pirate captain, but this girl of yours has at least spent enough time with one to be considered his "friend". She could still be dangerous, especially with a Valyrian blade in her hands."

When Tywin called for more guards, Tyrion's worry deepened. No turning back now though.

"Of course, better to be on the safe side," he agreed, remembering the incident on their way to King's Landing. Those two men had been separated from their heads before they even had the time to draw their swords properly. Not that he thought Lily would try anything like that again, she had no reason to.

"So, I take it you would like Miss Vyrwel to join us at this point?"

Tywin nodded. "You may go and fetch her now." he said absentmindedly, reaching for his quill to finish writing his decree.

Tyrion went to get Lily from his chambers, and returned a small while later. "Father, may I introduce you to Lady Lily Vyrwel. Lady Vyrwel, the Hand of the King Lord Tywin Lannister." He noticed Lily's eyes flutter over to the guards in the room, before returning to Tywin.

Tywin was just melting wax onto the envelope of the finished decree when Tyrion returned with Lily. He continued the process as they approached, while the guards freshly posted by the doors all dutifully straightened their stance.

"Greetings, Lady Vyrwel. I understand the past few months have been rather eventful for you. Your father must have been worried." he said in passing, reaching for his seal.

Lily walked into the chamber of the hand nonchalantly, noting the abundance of guards. As she approached the desk where the hand sat writing, he looked up and addressed her. Lily took a seat and hesitated for a moment creating an uncomfortable silence in the room.
"I suppose that my father is aware that I am missing from the Citadel and it is possible he is concerned about my welfare. But that is not why I am here today. I've come because I am in possession of something which I think you might be interested in. I believe you are aware that I have brought back Brightroar from the Doom in Valyria."

Tywin silently placed the sealed envelope in a small chest on his desk, wordlessly locking it up with several other documents before turning back to Tyrion and Lily. "I am aware that you brought something from somewhere. I take it, however, that you yourself are convinced that the sword in your possession is in fact Brightroar, specifically?"

"I was in fact in Valyria aboard the Invictus and I have returned with a sword crafted in Valyrian steel. I have it on very good authority that is is in fact, "Brightroar". Lily was unimpressed by his posturing. After all she's been through and in the emotions state that she was in, she just didn't find Lord Tywin intimidating.
"I am inclined to keep the sword for myself, as there is no comparison in craftsmanship. However, because of the significance that it has for your family, I believe that it would be worth more to you than it is to me. Therefore, I am willing to offer it to you if the price is right."

Tywin hummed lightly. "A price?" he shook his head slowly. "I'm afraid not, my Lady. As you've just attested yourself, what you have in your possession is Brightroar. The Lannister family sword. Our inheritance. Our property." he mused. Behind Lily and Tyrion, the guards drew their swords with a high-pitched scraping noise. "You're attempting to sell us something which, by law, belongs to us already." he remarked, rising from his chair.

"You even say you might keep it, which would be theft." he continued. "Of course, your contribution in returning our ancestral sword to us isn't without value. You are entitled to a finder's fee, perhaps. An appropriate compensation, of course. I know the life of a Maester in training is not always well provided for."

Tyrion's stomach sank. He should have guessed Tywin would try something like this. He just hoped Lily was clever enough to agree, and wouldn't try to resist. If she attempted anything, the guards would be on her in an instant. And then she would be leaving here empty handed, or more likely not at all...

He knew there was no point intervening. Nothing he could say would do anything to help the situation for Lily. It might even make it worse. It would be typically Tywin to punish Tyrion through lowering Lily's 'compensation'. And so he remained silent, however difficult that was.

"Very well, I will accept a finders fee" Lily stood and drew her sword, quite obviously not Brightroar or Valyrian steel, laying on the desk in front of Tywin Lannister. "Considering that your precious sword was lost in the Doom, your finders fee had better be significant. Else I will be returning it to where it was lost from your family for all these generations."

Tywin merely shrugged. "I'm sure you've heard the tired old saying. A Lannister pays his debts. I'll gladly reward you for returning Brightroar, but I will not have it said that I buy back my own stolen property." he said sternly before moving towards the back of the room. He opened one of the drawers of an old armoire and produced two large cloth bags, both sagging full of jingling metal.

"Gold Dragons. Enough to buy you your own Pirate Ship, if you're shrewd with the carpenter." he explained, dropping the two bags on the table with a loud thud. "It's far better than a swift execution, which is the only thing most Lords would offer a pirate."

Lily shrugged "I would have considered it worth more, but you drive a hard bargain. It's no wonder that you're the hand of the king." Lily seized the bags and turned to leave the room, smiling at the guard by the door. Before she had left the room, she heard the hand order her to halt but she was close enough to the doorway that she stepped through it and quickly ducked behind a stone buttress. She created an illusion of herself running the other way down the hallway. It wasn't very good, but it was good enough. The guards pursued. When they had cleared the room, Lily stepped back into the room where Tyrion stood and Tywin sat glowering at him. "That was a very unscrupulous move. Shrewd, but unscrupulous. Your family's claim to Brightroar is no stronger than mine." She dropped the two sacks of gold on his desk and snatched up her sword, leveling the point at his face. "I am not a thief"
Lily backed toward the door and stepped through it, closing it in front of her. A single guard was running toward her, undoubtedly to tell Tywin the bad news that she'd escaped. He looked surprised to see her. The guard drew his sword and Lily fled with him close on her heels. She led him on a chase around several corners before turning to fight. He was to skilled, she didn't have a chance to beat him and upon realizing this she turned and fled once again. Taking a corned too quickly she tumbled down a flight of stairs, fortunately wooden. As the guard advanced toward her she lept to her feel and scrambled into a large hall. It was poorly lit which worked in her favor. As the guard closed the gap toward her she created the illusion of a small dragon swooping toward them breathing fire. The guard dropped to the ground and Lily made her escape through the door at the far end. A moment later she found an exterior door and was walking in the sunshine through a marketplace.

Tywin sat completely still, in total silence. He remained so as Lily disappeared down the corridor, and for long, long after that, until the Keep had fallen completely silent. He sat stone-faced, the grinding of his jaw the only show of life. Finally, after what seemed like at least an hour, he growled. "Bring her to me. Dead or alive." Only then did his eyes actually move to look at Tyrion, his green irises alight with fury. "Do not stop and do not return until you have her."

The tolling of the Red Keep's bells carried out across the city soon after, the metallic clanging calling for the capital to be placed on lockdown. Goldcloaks rushed to fan out across the city's Seven gates, carefully scanning the throngs of people and greatly slowing their momentum in the process. The harbor too was placed under advanced security, and every ship that wished to leave port was carefully inspected. It would be a relentless hunt.

Tyrion was too surprised to react during the entire spectacle. Not that he could have done anything anyway. He knew Lily wasn't your average Maester, but he hadn't even come close to anticipating her successfully pulling off such an escape. How had she gotten away from those guards? A memory suddenly came back to him, a memory of a bank of mist appearing out of nowhere when they had needed it, and then disappearing without a trace afterwards... There was more to this young lady than met the eye, that was for sure.

He stood in silence while his father sat and seethed, knowing better than to open his mouth or even move. A mix of emotions ran through his head as he waited for Tywin to react. He felt angry at Tywin for trying to rip Lily off, angry at Lily for getting away with the sword, and angry at himself for allowing both of those things to happen. He was also impressed at what she had done though, and felt his respect for the young woman grow. He also felt a pang of sadness, knowing that Tywin would not rest until he had Lily in his clutches, and not wanting to think about what would happen to her then. And finally he felt a little bit of fear, as he knew who his father's wrath would most likely initially come down upon: him.

When Tywin finally spoke, Tyrion almost jumped, he was so lost in thought. Tyrion merely nodded, and left the room. Willem was still standing outside at the door, his face creased with worry. He opened his mouth to start talking, but Tyrion waved him into silence. "Later," he said, and Willem obediently followed him away from the Chamber of the Hand in silence.

Lily tied her hair back and pulled on a cloak of rough wool, pulling the hood up. She sat outside of Littlefinger's brothel hoping to catch a glimpse of Tyrion. She found a crate to sit on in an inconspicuous spot and waited.

It hadn't been a good day for Tyrion. Well, it hadn't been a good half a year, more to the point. Tyrion had taken his father's "do not stop until you have found her" quite seriously, not that he really had a choice. The "do not return until you have found her" part hadn't lasted quite as long, as his father had eventually told him to report back every now and again. This was one of those days. They were never good days...

Tywin had his men search all over Westeros for the girl, but to no avail. He had Tyrion do the same, with as little success. And every time Tyrion reported back to his father, the man grew more and more impatient, and he hadn't had much patience to begin with. Of course he remained cool as ever, but Tyrion could easily see through that mask. And today... well, his father's patience was almost depleted.

He sat in his chambers, alone with his self pity, and a bottle of... something alcoholic. If it hadn't been for him, his father would never have had the chance to get Brightroar in the first place, would he? And it wasn't him who had let her escape, was it? How was any of this his fault? Well it was obvious his father thought so, though that wasn't new. Everything was his fault, in his father's eyes... from the moment he was born, of course. And just then, Tyrion had had enough of it. Well, for once, stuff his dad. Tyrion got up, and headed for the door, with only one destination in mind.

***

It had been ages since he had visited a brothel in King's Landing. He had occasionally visited one here and there over the past six months, in places where he was confident his father wouldn't find out. But right then, he didn't care if his father found out. If his father wanted the bloody sword so much, he could travel around the Seven Kingdoms to find it himself.

It was with those thoughts in mind that Tyrion approached the brothel.

The imp almost slipped passed her undetected. When he caught her eye, she stood and slipped in behind him. The room smelled like insence and three of the staff quickly swarmed Tyrion fawning over him, competing to be his choice. Lily spoke up. "Give me a minute with him and then he's all yours." The women glared at her and she fished three coins out tossing them to the girls. They retreated and Lily stood facing her pursuer. "you've been looking for me Tyrion."
