Tyrion was let in to the the Chamber of the Hand by a guard. He stood in front of his father's desk, and gave him a small bow. "Good day father. I mentioned yesterday there was something I would like to talk to you about. Do you perhaps have some time at the moment? I believe it is a matter that may be of some interest to you, and House Lannister in general." He knew the importance his father held for the family. Not for its individuals of course, but for its legacy. And that's what this sword was all about.

As Tyrion was about to enter the brothel, he looked straight into a pair of eyes he recognised. His legs carried him into the whorehouse, his brain - slightly slowed down by the alcohol he was no longer used to - still processing what he thought he had seen. No, it couldn't be... Then again, he hadn't drunken quite enough to be seeing things. He started to turn around to head back to the exit, worried she would have run away, but then he heard her voice. Unmistakably. Mirelle, Genny and a girl he didn't recognise were already all over him, but Lily dispatched of them quickly.

"Lily..." He was lost for words. He already regretted drinking so much. Of all the times and places to find her... "Yes, yes I have. How... why... what are you doing here?" He walked over to a dimly lit corner, hopefully out of earshot of any girls or customers, beckoning Lily to follow him. He turned to her, leaning in close."You do realise the Gold Cloaks are still looking out for you, as are others in my father's employ? You do realise that, technically, I should bring you to him right now?" He knew as well as she did that that wasn't going to happen, he didn't stand half a chance at bringing her to anyone. "Though I'm sure we can settle whatever it is you came to settle without his intervention," he added, not wanting to scare her away. Not that he imagined he would scare her. If anything, he should be the one scared for his safety. "So, to get back to my first question, what the hell are you doing here?"

"I'm here to find you Tyrion. I thought that you wanted to bring Brightroar back into the Lannister House. I wasn't expecting to be double crossed. Although, I guess I did or I would have brought it with me to the meeting with your father."

"First of all, I would like you to know I played absolutely no part in what my father did. Secondly, I think you made a mistake denying my father's... offer. It would have made you a well off woman, instead of a fugitive."

"I don't doubt you on either account, but I did what I did and it can't be undone. Unless of course you know a way that it can be. But based on my one experience with your father, I suspect I should be taking up residence in Essos." Lily looked at Tyrion expectantly hoping that the clever man had thought of a solution.

Tyrion frowned, and shook his head, as if that would clear the effect of the alcohol from his thoughts. A year ago this amount of alcohol would have barely had an effect on him, but since cutting down on his drinking habits that was no longer the case. He racked his brain for a way out of this situation that included a happy ending for everyone involved. Nothing he could come up with was quite satisfactory. He sighed... "Lily, you know that if I do manage to get you out of this situation, the deal will be a far worse one than you were first offered, right? I might be able to convince my father to pardon you if you give up the sword, but as for a monetary compensation... I fear you burned that bridge," he said, shaking his head sadly. "I wish it were otherwise, but it is not. If you offer up the sword voluntarily, I will make sure you are left alone, and you can return to your former life. If not... I will not force you to do anything. If you wish, you can walk away now, leave this place, this city, this kingdom. However, I fear it will not be that easy. People have seen us here, and I'm sure little birds are already whistling. If you decide to leave, I don't think you will make it far, and the repercussions for both of us will be severe. So I beg of you, try to repair the damage, and do not make it worse for yourself. Is money really more important than living your life freely, without having to be in constant fear of getting caught?"

Lily considered Tyrions word ms and knew them to be true. What would Mance think of her giving this treasure to Tywin Lannister for nothing. The sword was a curse. She dropped into a chair and stared at him, her mind jumping from one thing to another. She couldn't give up the sword and she couldn't leave Tyrion at the mercy of Tywin. She could run, but her family was known. How long before Tywin took his vengeance out on them? Of course, that might be political suicide, as it would mean crossing the Tyrell's.
"Tyrion, tell your father to double the offer. It will still be a bargain even at the expense of his pride. If he accepts the offer, hang a red sheet from the window to the left of the main entrance to the Red Keep. I will find you and make arrangements for the deal. I will not go back inside the Keep though. "

She had gone mad. "I don't think you understand, Lily. Not to be harsh, but you are absolutely in no position whatsoever to negotiate. Whether I interfere with you leaving or not, you will not make it out of this city. And a little bit of smoke won't save you this time, my father and his men are prepared. Please Lily, see sense," he said, putting his hand on her shoulder, and making sure she was looking in his eyes. "You know Mance wouldn't want you to die - or worse - over this damn sword."

She considered her options. All she had ever hoped to do with the sword was to make Mance proud of her and Tywin proud of his son. Now that Mance was gone, did it really matter what bargain she had struck? Maybe she could escape, maybe she wouldn't. Would she risk it? What would capture mean for her. She had embarrassed Tywin and he seemed to her a cruel person.
She was quiet for a long while as Tywin stood patiently watching her tortured face. Eventually she spoke in the quiet subdued voice of defeat.
"The Sword lays in the gutter of the Escolar Inn wrapped in a piece of brown wool. At the top of the stairs, go through the first door on the left and you can access the sword out the window. I'm going to try and stay here until your father has called off his manhunt. I would appreciate if you were able somehow to let me know if and when I'm no longer being pursued."

Tyrion relaxed slightly. Surprisingly, the relief he felt was more due to the fact that Lily was less likely to be taken captive than it was due to him finally acquiring the sword he had so sought after. "Truly Lily, you have made the best choice. I shall do all I can to make sure my father calls off his manhunt. I can't make any promises as to his decision, but I will do my bloody best." He reached for his purse, and threw it at Lily. "I know this isn't nearly as much as anything you'd hoped for, but it's more than nothing." It was more than nothing - he had come here with the intention to spend a lot of money on whores and wine. Now that intention had evaporated. "Lily... despite everything that has happened, I hope we hold no grudges against one and other?" he said, holding out a hand to shake.

"I don't hold a grudge against you Tyrion. Unless I'm just being naive, I don't hold you culpable for your father's actions." She took a deep breath and sighed audibly, looking at the sac of coins she now held. "Well, you should get that sword to your father. Thank you for the coins, maybe they'll help me get far enough away from here."

"I hope they do," he said. "Well, you sure did bring some animation into my somewhat boring life, Lily. I think I will miss that. Life will be quite a bit less interesting without you around. Good luck, and if I shall make sure word reaches you if the coast is clear. Goodbye, Lily." He gave her a final nod, and then left the brothel, ignoring the two girls playfully trying to hold him back.

Lily waited in the parlor until a heavyset man with menacing stood before her informing her that she needed to pay for services or leave the establishment. She stood and surprised him by pointing to one of the establishment's girls saying "that one". She dropped two coins in his hand and a confused girl led her into the back. Lily learned that the girls name was Lydia and was fairly new to the business. She eased the girl's anxiety telling her that she just wanted to talk. They spent the next hour together behind the closed door and when the surly man came knocking they had made plans to rendezvous once Lydia was finished for the day. Assuming Lily was able to escape the city walls, she would be saving Lydia from the life of prostitution.
Cautiously lily stepped out into the bright sun, prepared to die fighting. She walked to the corner and didn't see any Kings Guard or City Watch. She turned right and went another blockunmolested.

After leaving the brothel, Tyrion headed straight for the Escolar Inn. He was glad to see there were no men of the City Watch around the brothel at the moment.

When he walked into the inn, the innkeeper looked surprised. Tyrion couldn't blame him; what was a Lannister doing in an inn like this, when he could stay in the Red Keep? Tyrion asked if he could see the room Lily had described.

"I'm sorry My Lord, that room is in use at the moment, and I can't have people nosying around my guests' belongings, can I now?" he said, patting his pockets suggestively.

Tyrion reached down for his purse, and then cursed inwardly when he felt its absence. He had given it to Lily of course. "Okay, I shall just go and get the City Watch then, they have permission to-"

The innkeeper interrupted him. "I suppose I can make an exception," he said hurriedly. He gave Tyrion a dirty look, and then led him up to the room. "Go on then, be quick about it," he said once he'd opened the door.

Tyrion went straight over to the window, his heart beating faster in his chest. Would it still be there? Would it have ever been put there in the first place? He looked down into the gutter... and there it was. He picked up the long bundle, and unwrapped it slightly, his back turned towards the man. He saw the hilt and the start of the blade. Yes, this is it... He rewrapped it, and turned to the innkeeper, giving him a big smile. "Thank you very much, that was very kind of you. I have what I came for - I'll make sure you get compensation for the time and effort you gave me, but I don't seem to happen to have anything on me at the moment.

The man's eyes held a mixture of curiosity and skepticism. A Lannister with no money on him must be a very abstract idea. "My Lord, it was no effort, I'm happy I could be of service..." he said, but Tyrion was already out the door and down the stairs, almost skipping back to the Keep.

When he got back, a worried Willem was waiting for him. "Where have you been? I found this empty bottle, and you were gone, and you haven't drunk that much since- what's that?" he asked when he noticed the package.

Tyrion gave him a big grin. "Take a look for yourself..." He unwrapped it again, completely this time, and held up the sword.

"Is that... how?" Willem asked, disbelievingly.

"I bumped into an old acquaintance of ours, and she-"

"Lily? How was she doing? Is she okay? Did she-"

"Wow, calm down there boy," Tyrion said with a little chuckle. "She was doing okay, for a fugitive anyway. Hopefully this will change that... I promised her I would do everything I could to convince Tywin to let her be. And I intend to keep that promise. Now, could you run off and see if you can arange a meeting with my father? Make clear it is urgent."

Willem nodded, and hurried off to do as he was told.

Tyrion stroked the flat of the sword, tracing the typical Valyrian steel pattern. Finally, he thought to himself.

Lord of Casterly Rock

Tywin Lannister sat at his large desk, the last beams of the day's sunlight streaming in through the patterned window to his left, as red as the Lannister sigil which hung on the wall to his right. Laid out on the table in front of him was a series of scrolls and letters from across the Kingdom, outlining anything and everything the Hand might find noteworthy, and it was an unusually thin pile. The Realm had been quiet for months. Too quiet. The Lords were either being inexcusably complacent, or they were plotting something, and Tywin could afford neither.

Joffrey would come of age within just a few weeks, and with that would come his marriage, and an end of Cersei's regency powers, what little she retained of them these days. There was much that needed to be done, and the last thing he needed at a time like this was some well-hidden conspiracy. He was stirred from his thoughts when the door at the far end of his chamber cracked open slightly and Captain Vylarr carefully leaned into the room. He waited quietly, until Tywin nodded his head slightly to signal his assent, before speaking.

"M'lord, your son's squire is here, the cagey one. Says Lord Tyrion needs to see ya, urgently." he said in an even tone, not moving further into the room.

Tywin pondered what remained of the day. All he had left to do was receive a report from Varys some time after supper, and he could already tell the Spider had nothing of any worth to report. If he had, the eunuch would already have found a way of materializing in Tywin's Chamber and telling him in that anticipant whisper of his. As such, he nodded again to Vylarr, more resolutely this time, and gestured lightly with his hand. The Captain, long-serving enough to know his lord's wordless meanings, simply nodded and backed out of the room.

In the hall, a fair distance from the door to the Hand's Chamber, Captain Vylarr returned to where Willem stood in between two towering Lannister guards.

"The Hand of the King will speak with his son as you ask. Inform your Lord that he is to be here within the hour, if his business is indeed so urgent."

Lily had reached the waterfront safely having avoided any guards or soldiers. She surveyed the harbor looking for any recognizable pennants among the mast tops. She saw none and retired to a hole in the wall to get some food inside of her. She whiled away some hours until late into the night. At last she retired from the inn and set out to see if Lydia would show up at their rendezvous.

The streets were hauntingly quiet and her footfalls echoed off the walls. An uneasy feeling followed her down the streets and passages like an unwelcome shadow. When Liky reached the rendezvous, she found it vacant. She sat on an upturned crate and waited. time passed, the sun set and still no sign of her. Lily gave up and left, heading for Fleabottom where she could rest away from where any gold cloak may wander.

OOC: I'm going to ignore Lily's rather untimely demise for now, and continue the meeting with Tywin that I was just about to have.

Willem burst through the door, slightly breathless, excitement clearly visible on his face. "The Hand will see you now. I wish I could see the look on his face when you-" he cut himself off mid sentence "-I mean, I'm sure he will be very pleased that you found the sword."

Tyrion grinned. "I'm sure he will. Oh, he won't show it, and he'll probably continue to claim it's not real Valyrian steal, let alone Brightroar, but deep inside he wants this sword badly, I know it." In truth Tyrion himself was far from convinced it was Brightroar - although his guts told him it was, not that he trusted them - but he was pretty sure it was true Valyrian steel. Brightroar or not, the Lannisters would finally own a Valyrian steel sword once more. "Anyway, I should not leave him waiting. Walk with me."

The two of them left Tyrion's chambers. The effects of the alcohol were fortunately over, the excitement and moving around having seemingly dispelled of them. "Could you wait outside with the sword, Willem? Don't want to give away the surprise directly." They reached the Chamber of the Hand, where Captain Vylarr was awaiting them. The Captain asked them to wait for a moment, and then Tyrion was let into the room. His father was seated behind his large wooden desk, carefully reading a document that lay before him. He didn't look up as Tyrion entered.

"Good evening, Father," he said. "How is running the Kingdom going?" he asked. Although he was eager to cut to the chase, he wanted to seem nonchalant. He wondered how long Tywin would continue his act of reading the document on his desk before he acknowledged his son.

Tywin set down his paper instantly, too tired of it to feign interest. "The Kingdoms are well and complacent. Some might say too much of both. We can't afford to be complacent, not now that our family has been spread across the country. It will be good to have more Lannisters back at the Rock, but can't happen until we've found that churlish girl with the sword." he mused, bitterness flaring in his gaze. "I trust you've thoroughly and repeatedly inspected the local brothels and taverns for her in these past months?"

Tywin put down his paper surprisingly fast, and looked up sharply at his son. He didn't seem in a very good mood, but that wasn't exactly unusual.

"I may have good news for you on that front," Tyrion said. "Our fugitive has had enough of being on the run. I received a raven from her today. She told me the location of the sword. She was hoping that this would bring an end to this whole affair, and that we could call off the manhunt." He had decided to leave out the fact that she was currently right here in the city. If Tywin did decide to continue hunting her down, at least she might get the chance to get out of the city first.

"Was she now? Well, if Varys is to be believed, which he usually isn't, she's done far more than just hold our sword hostage to earn herself the block." Tywin remarked off-handedly, though he made a point to ease off on the chase nevertheless. His men could be better used elsewhere.

"I assume you've already gone to get the sword, then?" he inquired, leaning back in his chair, tone emotionless.

"Naturally." He called Willem in, who quickly handed him the sword. In turn, he held out for his father. "I realise she caused us a lot of trouble. But in the end, we've got a sword we would normally not have. Brightroar or not, it is a Valyrian steel sword, and we got it completely free of charge. I don't see any point in continuing to hunt her down, she has nothing we want and is no danger to us. Continuing this manhunt would just be a waste of time and effort, especially as we have no idea where she is."

Tywin merely hummed quietly in response, eyes already fixated on the sword in Tyrion's hand. He took it gingerly in his hands and withdrew it from its sheath, twisting the blade gently in the sunlight that came in through the window. The rays of light caught the Valyrian steel, lighting it up gold, crimson and emerald as it was twisted. For a brief moment, his eyes widened with awe before he lowered the blade again, reaching for a large, rolled up sheet of paper on his desk.

"Well, whether or not this is Brightroar, it could certainly pass for it." he said, passing the paper to Tyrion. It was a very long, well-aged sheet, with a detailed sketch of a Valyrian blade on it. The blade was long and thin, just strong enough to cut flesh and bone, but not so much as to weigh the wielder down, and it ran with the same brilliant colors that lit up the blade in Tywin's hand. The hilt appeared pure gold, but concealed a far sturdier material beneath, and the pommel and both ends of the cross-guard were inlaid with bright red rubies. The face and maw of a roaring lion were carved into the rain-guard, it's mane flowing out onto the base of the blade. The blade in Tywin's hands, meanwhile, was quite simple and modest by comparison, a mess of leather bands and foil.

"The hilt can always be reforged, of course. It would appear to have the killing power of Brightroar, if nothing else. Once it's made to look the part, it shouldn't matter whether or not it's the genuine thing. It will be a grand symbol of our house's power no matter what." the Hand mused, taking a few practice swings, the blade practically whistling as it flew through the air.

Tyrion accepted the parchment, and looked it over. His eyes flicked from it to the sword in his father's hands, and back again. He tried to imagine the one Tywin was holding with the same hilt as the one on the picture. Yes, it might just be Brightroar... And as his father said, if it was the original Brightroar or not, what did it matter? This sword would now be Brightroar, regardless of its history.

He watched his father swinging the sword, with somewhat more skill than he had done himself in his chambers while Willem was away. "Indeed. Besides some finishing and a bit of polish, that's Brightroar are wielding right there father. How does it feel?" He couldn't help but ask it. He could see exactly how Tywin felt by looking in his eyes, but he wanted to know if he would admit it to his deformed disappointment of a son, who had brought him this sword.

Tywin furrowed his brow, wordlessly sliding the sword back into its sheath, its radiant glow disappearing and returning the room to the gloomy light of the sunset. Placing the sword on his desk, he turned back towards Tyrion.

"In retrieving this sword, and in administering to the Rock in my absence, you have been of great service to our House, that much I cannot deny." he started, crossing his hands behind his back. "But you're a Lannister, Tyrion. To serve our House and advance its standing is a duty you have been born into, and not one I consider easily wavered. The failure of so many of your cousins, and indeed siblings, in no way excuses leniency or elevates duty, it simply makes it more unique." he drifted off into silence for a second, as if in thought, before continuing.

"Nevertheless, I suppo-" In that moment, the door to the Hand's Chamber flew open, and Captain Vylarr entered, bowing curtly.

"My Lord, apologies fer the interruption, but a rider has come for you, from the Reach. He insists its of the greatest urgency." he rattled off in a single breath, visibly eager not to displease the Hand. Tywin's expression, having flared up in anger at the intrusion, cooled immediately. "Send him in at once, then." barked, sending Vylarr running. He turned back to Tyrion, opened his mouth as if to say something, then closed it again and shook his head. He moved back around to his seat, making no indication that he wanted Tyrion to leave once the rider arrived.
