Chapter 1: Antidote to Common Potions The Antidote to Common Poisons (or Antidote for Common Poisons) is a potion which counteracts ordinary poisons, such as creature bites and stings. Its ingredients include Bezoars, Standard Ingredient, ground unicorn horn and mistletoe berries. How to Brew this Potion: Add 1 Bezoar to the mortar Crush into a very fine powder using the pestle Add 4 measures of the crushed Bezoar to your cauldron Add 2 measures of Standard Ingredient to your cauldron Heat to a medium temperature for 5 seconds Wave your wand Leave to brew and return in 40 minutes with Pewter Cauldron, 34 minutes with Brass cauldron and 30 minutes with copper cauldron. Add 1 pinch of Unicorn Horns to your cauldron Stir 2 times, clockwise Add 2 Mistletoe Berries to your cauldron Stir 2 times, anti-clockwise Wave your wand to complete the potion Chapter 2: Cure for Boils The Cure for Boils (also known as simply Boil Cure) is a potion which cures boils, even those produced by the Pimple Jinx. It is an elementary potion taught to first year students at Hogwarts. When brewing the potion, the cauldron must be taken off the fire before adding the porcupine quills, or, as Neville Longbottom found out, the cauldron will melt and create a horrid odour, and if it spills will cause the skin to erupt in vicious boils. If the potion is made successfully, there will be pink smoke raising from the cauldron. How to Brew this Potion: Add 6 snake fangs to the mortar. Crush into a fine powder using the pestle. Add 4 measures of the crushed fangs to your cauldron. Heat the mixture to 250 for 10 seconds. Wave your wand. Leave to brew and return in 33-45 minutes. Add 4 horned slugs to your cauldron. Take the cauldron off the fire before adding the next ingredient.[1] Add 2 porcupine quills to your cauldron. Stir 5 times, clockwise. Wave your wand to complete the potion Chapter 3: Forgetfulness Potion The Forgetfulness Potion is a potion which causes an unknown degree of memory loss in the drinker. Its key ingredients include Lethe River Water, mistletoe berries, and Valerian sprigs. Professor Severus Snape had his first-year students brew this potion for their final exams in 1992. How to Brew this Potion: Add 2 drops of Lethe River Water to your cauldron Gently heat for 20 seconds Add 2 Valerian sprigs to your cauldron Stir 3 times, clockwise Wave your wand Leave to brew and return in 45-60 minutes Add 2 measures of Standard Ingredient to the mortar Add 4 mistletoe berries to the mortar Crush into a medium-fine powder using the pestle Add 2 pinches of the crushed mixture to your cauldron Stir 5 times, anti-clockwise Wave your wand to complete the potion Chapter 4: Herbicide Potion Herbicide Potion (or simply Herbicide) is a potion that kills or damages plants. It has a disgusting taste and is not for human consumption since it may affect the drinker's health. The recipe for this potion can be found in Magical Drafts and Potions. Its key ingredients are Flobberworm mucus, Horklump juice, and Lionfish spines. How to Brew this Potion: Add 4 lionfish spines to the mortar Crush into a rough powder using the pestle Add 2 measurements of Standard Ingredient to the mortar Crush into a rough powder Add 3 measures of the crushed mixture to your cauldron Wave your wand Leave to brew and return in 60 minutes Add 2 measures of Horklump juice to your cauldron Heat to a medium temperature for 10 seconds Add 2 blobs of Flobberworm mucus to your cauldron while it's still on the heat Stir 4 times, clockwise Wave your wand to complete the potion Chapter 5: Sleeping Draught The Sleeping Draught was a potion that caused the drinker to fall almost instantaneously into a deep but temporary sleep. A standard Sleeping Draught differed from the Draught of Living Death, which was much more powerful, lasting, and difficult to make. Hermione Granger referred to the Sleeping Draught as "simple, but powerful". Key ingredients of the Sleeping Draught included Flobberworm Mucus, lavender, and valerian sprigs. How to Brew this Potion: Add 4 sprigs of Lavender to the mortar Add 2 measures of Standard Ingredient to the mortar Crush into a creamy paste using the pestle Add 2 blobs of Flobberworm Mucus to your cauldron Add 2 measures of Standard Ingredient to your cauldron Gently heat for 30 seconds Add 3 measures of the crushed mixture to your cauldron Wave your wand Leave to brew and return in 70 minutes(time depends on cauldron) Add 2 measures of Standard Ingredient to your cauldron Heat on a high temperature for 1 minute Add 4 Valerian Sprigs to your cauldron Stir 7 times, clockwise Wave your wand to complete the potion Chapter 6: Swelling Solution The Swelling Solution is a potion which causes whatever it touches to swell in size; its three key ingredients (the only ingredients in it) are bat spleens, dried nettles, and puffer-fish eyes. The trio decided to steal some ingredients for the polyjuice potion from their potions teacher's private stores in their second year the day the class tried to make this potion. Harry Potter set off one of his fireworks as a diversion for Hermione Granger to get the necessary ingredients; whether intentionally or accidentally, the firework landed in Gregory Goyle's cauldron, causing the solution to explode across the class, causing the inflammation of various body parts; those splashed had to go to the professor for a Deflating Draught. How to Brew this Potion: Add two scoops of dried nettles to the mortar Add three puffer-fish eyes to the mortar Crush into a medium-fine powder Add two measures of the crushed mix to your cauldron Heat on a medium temperature for twenty seconds Wave your wand Leave to brew and return in 60 minutes Add one bat spleen to the cauldron Stir four times, anti-clockwise Heat to low for thirty seconds Wave your wand to complete the potion Chapter 7: Wideye Potion The Wideye Potion, also known as the Awakening Potion, was a potion which prevented the drinker from falling asleep and could also be used to awaken someone from drugging or concussions. It acted as an antidote for the Draught of Living Death. Its key ingredients include dried billywig stings, snake fangs, and wolfsbane. How to Brew this Potion: Add 6 Snake fangs to the mortar Add 4 measures of Standard Ingredient to the mortar Add 6 Dried Billywig Stings to your cauldron Heat on a medium temperature for 30 seconds Finely crush the ingredients in the mortar Add 4 measures of the crushed ingredients to your cauldron Stir 3 times, clockwise Wave your wand Leave to brew and return in 95 minutes Add 2 sprigs of Wolfsbane to your cauldron Stir 3 times, anti-clockwise Wave your wand to complete the potion Chapter 8: Further Information Moonstone (also known as the wishing stone) is a gemstone of medium value. Moonstones are a milky colour and shine very brightly, almost as though they are a source of their own light. They are a useful potion ingredient; powdered moonstones are used as an ingredient for the Draught of Peace and in several Love Potions. Powdered Moonstone is also an ingredient in in Potion No. 86 which is likely an experimental potion. In 1995, Severus Snape forced Harry Potter to write twelve inches of parchment on the properties of Moonstone and its usage in potion-making. Moonstones were also known to be among the gems set into Muriel's tiara. |
