Vi Lodis, King of Viceria

Day 1

Vi stood just out of sight. The sun was shining through the open doorway as the king of Viceria waited.

"And to face this challenger is Viceria's own king, Vi!" The announcer called.

Smiling, Vi stepped into the arena. The thousands of fans in the audience were cheering wildly at his entrance, with good reason.

Vi was wearing his Orysium armour, black as night. He also had on a long violet cape that made his eyes all the more fearsome. His long hair was kept tame by his crown. And perhaps the most fearsome thing about him was what was in his right hand. The Black Blade, the legendary sword of Draco Lodis.

He smiled darkly as he looked over his opponent. His name was Dreymir, and he was a Blood Priest. He was cloathed in full red. He was wearing a robe, but Vi knew that there was platemail underneath. Drermir was weilding a staff.

"BEGIN!" Shouted the announcer, much the the audience's excitement.

Almost instantly, Dreymir summoned a fireball and launched it at Vi. Vi easily sidestepped the magic.

"Vestra Els Donoshu!" Shouted Vi as he launched a blast of dark magisi at his enemy. Dreymir wasn't as lucky as Vi was when it came to dodging. The blast hit him dead on, sending him flying into the stadium wall. The crowd cheered.

Vi grabbed his sword and rushed to where his opponent was struggling to get up. He lunged towards Dreymir, who rolled under him and hit him with a small blast. Vi landed and turned around,, blocking another blast of magisi.

"You're not bad." He said to Dreymir, with a small smile. "But I've toyed with you long enough."
With that, Vi shot another blast of dark magisi towards Dreymir, this one much more powerful than the last. Dreymir fell to the ground, no longer awake.

"AND THE WINNER IS VI!" roared the announcer.

The announcer said more, but Vi didn't hear it as he walked out of the stadium. A sad smile was on his face.
"Combat is never fun when you always win." He muttered as he walked home.

It had been a long day, and Sal was pretty sure that it wasn't going to be a long night.
"Get me another one" he said to the bartender as he looked down into the bottom of the mug he had just drained.
as Sal sat at the bar, he wondered what he was going to do with his life in New Xainia.
"All I had in my life back in Xainia was shipbuilding and fighting," he mumbled to himself, "I want to do more with my life. But how?"
as he asked himself this question a man (who had had way to much to drink that night) came up to him and started to, you could say, talking.
"Arent you that...*mumble*slur*mumble*...sailor boy?"
Sal was so into his own question that he didn't notice the man.
"Hey boy! Are you deaf or just dumb!" the man yelled.
"Neither." Sal quietly replied.
"Are you tryin to talk back to one of your superiors!" the man screamed as loud as he could. "I'm gonna teach you a lesson!"

without a warning Sal pinned him to the ground.
"You are Not my superior" he said.
It quickly turned into a everyone vs. Sal bar fight.
Sal pulled out his staff and was only trying to knock people off their feet, but quickly he was almost overwhelmed.
suddenly a strong wind threw everyone except Sal against the walls.
"Did you just do that?" a man asked.
"I didn't mean.." Sal tried to put in.
"We don't take kindly to warriors in these parts." the bartender said. "Don't come back in my bar and if your still in this town by tomorrow I'll put the sherrif on you." he continued.

Sal calmly walked out of the bar and thought to himself "I guess Viceria it is then"

Vi soon arrived back at his castle. He walked past the guards and into his throne room.

Once inside, he saw about seven people waiting for a conference. Vi sighed and sat down.

"Yes? What do you all wish to ask of me?" He asked with faux-politeness.

The men all bowed down before approaching the king.
"Well, your higness," one started, "As you know, it's a long and difficult journey across the island from East Viceria. We were comin' to the city with our vegetables to sell at the market, when bandits robbed us clean!"

Another nodded. "Took all of our goods and money, even my donkey!"

Vi listened to their problem. This wasn't the first time this had happened, and it was getting worse and worse. He stood up.

"I will have a royal guard escort you back home. And, because this isn't the first time that has happened, I will build a road between the two cities, with guard stations every few kilometers."

The men all started thanking him, when Vi held up his hand. "Now if you'll excuse me, I must retire. Give this to the innkeep," He handed them a piece of parchment, "And stay there for the night. Go to the West Gate at noon to meet my guard. Good night." He left the room.

As he ascended the stairs in his tower, he sighed. "Running a city is hard work." He complained aloud. After a few minutes, Vi made it to the top of the tower, his bedroom. He walked in to see two of his wives, Saevitia and Seraph. Seraph was quietly reading in front of the fireplace, while Saevitia was asleep in the bed. As Vi walked in, Seraph looked up and smiled.
"Vi! You're home." She gently set her book down and walked over to embrace him. "I missed you."
Vi nodded. "I missed you too. Where are Até and Ira?" He asked.

Seraph looked up at him. "Até is down at the arena still, and Ira is most likely in the kitchens bossing around the servants." She told him.

Vi nodded again. "Okay. You can stay up reading if you wish. I'm going to sleep." He kissed Seraph goodnight, changed into his night clothes, and quickly fell asleep.

Day 2

As Sal stepped off the boat, he looked around at Viceria.
From where he was he could see the castle and the arena.
He quickly set off in search of a job. As he was asking around, he noticed
a group of travelers and overheard one of their conversations about how
a road was being built with guard stations.
"That could lead to a good job" he thought to himself,
"I might want to go talk to the king."
Sal headed towards the castle in a calming walk.

When Vi awoke, he looked around his room. His wives had already gone downstairs to break their fast.

He took his time getting dressed. He knew that a new day would bring new problems. Sighing, he slipped on some comfortable, yet elegant robes, and descended the stairwell.

As soon as he arrived at the base of the tower, two of his guards approached him.
"M'lord." They said in unison, kneeling. "You have a visitor, one calling himself 'Sal'. He wishes to speak to Your Majesty about your need of guards for the new road being constructed. Shall we send him in?"

Vi thought for a moment and nodded. "Send him into the dining room, we can talk while we break fast." The guards kneeled again before retreating to find this visitor. Vi sighed. The sun had barely been up, and he was already being called upon; this was going to be a long day.

He walked into the dining room and awaited his guest.

Sal was being led towards the dining room
where he was supposed to meet the king.
as he entered the dining room he saw a man in black, elegant robes.
"That must be the king" he thought to himself.
he bent down on one knee and spoke to the king:
"Your Majesty, I come to ask if I may serve as one of your guards
for the road that is being constructed."

Vi looked at the man who entered. He looked older and taller than Vi was, with a messy patch of blonde hair. The guard had mentioned that he called himself 'Sal'.

Sal knelt down.
"Your Majesty, I come to ask if I may serve as one of your guards
for the road that is being constructed."

Vi looked at him and inwardly sighed. He then stood up.
"Are you skilled in combat, and willing to risk your life to protect others?" He asked, waiting for Sal's response.

Vi nodded in approval. "Good, we need more guards. The bandits are getting out of hand. Eruks! Meilor! Bring Sal to the armoury, and let him take his choice of gear. He can stay in one of the guest rooms tonight; he'll be heading for the 3rd outpost on the morrow." He instruced as the two guards who escorted Salvaggio in nodded in compliance.
"Yes, m'lord."

Eruks and Meilor brought Sal to a small room near the Guard Barracks in the castle. They opened the door, and Sal saw an assortment of rare and pwerful wearpons and armours. Looking around, Sal selected a cloak that made the wearer able to run faster, an enchanted broadsword. Not really needing anything else, Sal told the guards that he was ready to go.

After walking to the other side of the castle courtyard, the trio approached a large building.
"This must be the Guest Building," Sal mused as they opened the door. It was about the size of a small inn, with it's own bar and diner. He saw a few man sitting in the bar convering over pints of beer, and another man in the corner, trying to pick up one of the bartender's daughters.

One of the guards got his attention and handed him a key.
"Your room is the first one down this hall." He said, pointing. Sal nodded.

The guard looked at him.
"We're going to be leaving for the outpost just after sun-up tomorrow. You'll need your sleep. For the rest of the day, you have permission to wander the castle grounds, but you aren't allowed into the castle itself. Do you understand?"
When Sal nodded, the guard continued.

"If you're a warrior, there's always the Arena, right in the middle of town. There's a pretty decent prize if you win 10 matches in succesion; 5,000 gold coins. If you aren't interes-"

Sal stopped him. "I understand. I'll see you at sunrise."
He turned and left the inn, heading for town.

Vi had just left his dining room when he heard bells coming from the city. Guards were running towards the exits, holding various weapons.

"The alarm bells!" Exclimed Vi. "Viceria is under attack!"
He ran to his personal armoury, and put on his Black Orysium armour, and grabbed The Black Blade. After equipping himself, he teleported to town square.

When he appeared, he saw chaos everywhere. Various buildings were on fire, and people left and right were fighting each other. At first, Vi couldn't rrecognize the differences between the two sides, but he soon realized that the bandits from the forest had worked up the nerve to attack Viceria.

Vi sprung into action; twirling around, he disarmed one of the banits and decapitated another. He lunged foward, and pierced another through the heart.

One of them ran at Vi from behind, hoping to catch him off guard, but Vi bent over at the lest minute, sending the bandit tumbling over his back. Vi killed him.

"Now would be a good time to use your Magisi, m'lord!" Cried Dathomir, the Guard Captain. Vi nodded, his eyes glowing violet.

Shentau Do-vhrchk Bonaii! Vi shouted as an orb of Dark Energy surrounded him. Vi continued fighting, and with every person he killed, the orb grew.

After a few more minutes of combat, Vi saw the opening he needed. Unleash!
All of the energy accumulating in the orb exploded outwards, hurting, if no killing, the majority of the bandits. Vi smiled and resumed melee combat.

Engel hurried to take down his sail, seeing and hearing the obvious unrest coming from within the city itself. He immediately sprang from the wharf and headed for the center of town. He had his hand on his katana's hilt, ready to slash any aggressor that hindered his path.Further ahead he could see buildings on fire, and hear the innocent screams of civilians. He could not understand, how could such a stupid race of criminal have penetrated so deeply into the city?

A pair of looters suddenly appeared from around a corner. The one designating them as thieves had a large sack slung over his back, his weapon consiquentialy sheathed. The other had his sword drawn, and was leading his partner. Rather than kill them, Engel merely rendered them unconscious. They could be administered a better punishment than death at a later time. Engel knew, however, that the younger Vi would not do the same. There were better ways to punish such criminals, and Engel would surely have to tell him that.

Suddenly Engel felt a Dark, dense aura coming from somewhere ahead. He could feal it intensifying in great pulses, and knew what was to come. With his left hand he reached above his shoulder and drew his broadsword, bringing it down to his right hand, and assumed a defensive stance. As the blast of magisi came, the dark magic parted to either side of Engel's blade, negated by the light shining forth from his sword.

He had heard tales of this magic as he had travel around the main island. He knew that the King of Viceria used such attacks, and decided to head for the epicenter of the blast. Proving himself in battle for the King would not only make a good first impression, but he would also gain honor throughout the city, not to mention some of his trust.

Engel navigated through the streets of Viceria, looking for the young king. As he neared Vi's location, Engel could hear the din of combat increasing in volume. As he turned a corner, he saw a raven-haired man fending off six opponents at once.

Engel knew immediately that this was Vi. He was too caught up in the fight to notice him walk up. Out of the corner of his eye, Engel noticed another bandit, atop a nearby building, aiming a crossbow at the young king. Glancing at the king, Engel realized that this threat was unknown to Vi.

"I have to act fast." Engel thought to himself as he readied himself to cast Magisi.
Aiming his hand at the bandit, he altered the energy surrounding his arm and formed a ball of energy in his palm. Just as the bandit was aiming his weapon, Engel fired the blast, knocking his enemy off the roof, unconcious.

The blast got the attention of Vi, who had just finished off the last bandit he was fighting. The other thieves were retreating, and being rounded up by the city guards. Vi walked up to Engel.

"You..saved my life. You have my thanks. What is your name?" Vi asked.
Engel replied, and Vi nodded.
"Here, come with me to my castle, and we can talk about what happened."

As Engel followed the king through the halls of his castle, he couldn't help but notice the visual contrast between himself and Vi. They entered what looked to be the king's study. It was a fairly sizeable room, its walls were hidden behind numerous book shelves, and a grand fireplace glowed forth with burning coals. A desk stood in front of the windows opposite the entrance.

"Wait here as I change into more comfortable clothes."

The king left, and Engel took the opportunity to observe a map on the table in the middle of the room. It was a map of the known world from 15 years ago, before Old Xainia had been destroyed in the great realm war. Engel could see the mountains of his homeland. It reminded him why he had come to Viceria. Just then the king reappeared at the door, and walked to the opposite side of the table.

"I see you are thinking about how the world used to be. Try thinking about all that has happened since that time."

As Engel did as he was told, the map changed. The borders shifted, cities changed names or completely disappeared. At the same time, new lands began to appear at the fringes of the old world.

"Such a thing is a good thing to have, my Lord."

They both sat down by the fireplace.

A servant entered the study.
"Would M'lord and his guest like a drink?"
Vi nodded.
"Bring in a bottle of summerwine, if you will. Maybe some biscuits?"
The servant bowed and left the room.

Vi looked at Engel, who was sitting across from him.
"I'll get straight to the point: You can use Magisi. Such a skill would be useful in my ranks. And, because you saved my life, I think you might be able to be a General, at the least. Do you accept my offer?"

"I do graciously accept your commission, but ask that you hold my assignment until after you've heard my proposal. You see my lord, it is not by mere chance that I have come to your city. I've come from the other side of New Xainia to present to you an Idea that I think you will like."

The last rays of light from the setting sun were coming through the window, casting shadows on the wall. The servant entered with a bottle of chilled Summerwine, and a plate of biscuits.
"Here you go, M'lord. Supper will be ready in two hours."

Vi thanked the servant and turned back to Engel, interested.
"An idea, eh? Let's hear it."

"You propose to wipe out the White Brotherhood, who live in the mountains, by establishing a stronger naval force?" Vi asked, smiling.

Engel's face broke into a broad smile.
"Your highness, you clearly understand that magic is powerful as a weapon, but it can also be used to cure the sick and heal the wounded. Would it surprise you to learn that the essence of life and death can lift the us into the heavens. For the past five years I have studied the waves of magic coarsing through the air. The earth itself is alive, it's heart beating, pumping life into us. If we ask it, it will carry us to the stars."

Vi set down his cup of wine, the near-mocking look on his face was gone.

"You're serious? You've been researching ways to make ships...fly? How well does it work?" Vi asked, intrigued.
