Our story begins in the town of Logan in mid Spring. This town is somewhat distant from most towns. Its main resource is wood and pelts.
Its not much but many choose to call it home. Its is just around 6' and the tavern are expecting business. Here we have three new guests in town.
One is already in the Tavern drinking alone. Soon the doors of the tavern open, a man and woman enter the bar. As soon as they enter they notice a scare feeling in the air. The general customers seem to be afraid of something. As the man looks over he sees and large half-snake half-woman sitting in the corner of the room. She seems to be wearing a cloak. What do you do?

The man takes note of the obvious tension in the air, the stares and stiff positions of the people in the room, some looking at him and his wife, others looking away from them, though staring with the same worried, tense features. The man follows their gaze to the far corner of the room where he sees the source of the stares. A woman seemingly wearing a cloak, but that wasn't what everyone was looking at, they were looking at the woman's lower portion, the part of her that curled around the table and chair legs of her area, the part of her covered with tiny pale yellow scales. The woman's bottom half was that of a snake. She was something that The man had never before seen, heard about yes, but never actually seen.

"Don't just stand here, go in and sit down." The man heard inside his head and he glanced down at his wife, who glanced quickly back up at him. he gave a quick nod of acknowledged and strode further in. "Pick a table somewhere to the side, close to her but not too close, don't alienate either her or the others" his wife advised silently as they walked further in. He picked a seat according to her advice and held a chair for her, and pushed it in as she sat down. He had been in a few taverns before, and it never hurt to let them know that she was taken, even if they all seemed too scared to even think of anything at the moment. He sat down as well, looking around the room again. He leaned forward, interlocking his fingers in front of his mouth, resting his elbows on the table, and looked at the lamia in the corner. She looked back up at him and met his gaze, he couldn't read her eyes.

The air the tavern seemed to get heavier and heavier as time passed. The woman starts to look around the room from underneath the hood. As her gaze meets the other customers they all turn away, except for two. She stares at the two for a bit and then rises up. The which was filled with the whispers of men and women was suddenly silenced. As she stands everyone sees the true size of the woman. She rose up to at least 6 feet and seemed even longer due to the fact that the remaining of the tail seemed to stay of the floor for 8 more feet. She starts to slither over to bar but soon stops at the table of the two who walked recently. The stares at the man with her yellow eyes. The sounds of metal shaking in the room suddenly started as everyone seems to reach for their weapons in case a fight were to break out. It seems like an eternity as the two look each other in the eyes. She soon says:

"You don't seem to be from these parts. You seem quite strong as well. Your eyes are similar to only the strongest in my village."
She then turns to the woman and says:
"You seem to be quite the hunter yourself."

The man was taken aback, leaning back in his chair slightly he studied her more intently for a few moments. She didn't appear threatening in any way, but it disconcerted him that for while he couldn't read her at all, she had read him and his wife quite easily. Though she hadn't guessed what he truly was, he had no doubts that she could... given enough time.
"What do you think?" them man asked his wife mentally.
"Well, it's too late to stay neutral. We'll end up either alienating her or them. But i don't think we have to worry about them too much." she replied in like manner.
"Yes, I've noticed that almost none of them have much more than daggers."
The man straightened as the lamia started to turn away, she seemed almost to have given up on a response.
"And there seems more to you too than just your appearance." He said, she instantly looked back at him, and then turned to his wife as she spoke up too.
"My name is Eve, and this is my husband Ven. We've traveled far and are new to this place, can you tell us anything about it?"
The other patrons of the tavern didn't seem to have relaxed at all, but at least they weren't reaching for weapons anymore.

The lamia seemed somewhat surprised. She had rarely meet such unshaken behavior.
She leaned over to the woman's ear and said in a quite voice.

"It would be my pleasure to tell you, however the atmosphere in the room does not seem fit a proper introduction. Perhaps you and mate would like to come to my room later so that we might exchange information. My room is the last one to the west of the building."

She leans up and shows her respect to the couple with a quick bow, then slithers away to her room.
As soon as the Lamia is gone the tension in the room lifts as if a bird took flight.
The customers return to the conversations and merriment.
One of the larger customers heads toward the table that the woman and man were sitting at.
The man begins to talk to the couple by saying:

"My, that musta have been frightful for the both of ya! That beast is not somethin ya see that often."
He leans in closer and says:
"I hear those things eat people whole! Like vipers! Best keep ya distance if you know what I mean."

Ven looked up and smiled at the man and forced a smile, not missing the mans glistening brow and faintly bloodshot eyes.
"We'll definitely keep an eye on her, thank you, but we've come across worse." he replied, looking back around the room, trying to spot anyone who might serve them. The man looked him up and down very skeptically, looking at the unassuming plain clothes, and the lack of any weapons.
"If you say so, just be careful ya hear?" he replied. He stood there a few seconds and then turned to leave, his gaze lingering on them for a few moments more before Eve spoke up, "Oh, before you go, is there someone here to serve us, or get us a room?" she asked.
The man just turned his head and said, "Yea, I'll go get her out here, now that the creature is gone." and then walked away.

A couple hours later that night, the couple walked toward the room the lamia had specified. Having gotten a small bite to eat and a bit to drink, they were in a rather pleasant mood, though still curious, and cautious, about the lamia. They contemplated her words, "What did she mean about my eyes?" Ven though.
"And what about what she said about me? Does she know what I am? A bird of prey? A hunter?" Eve thought back.
Their thoughts were cut short as her door rose up in front of them. Ven reached out a hand clenched as a fist and held it in front of the door. He rapped soundly on the door, trying not to make the noise too loud.

The lamia opened the door slowly and invited the two in. "Welcome." She said with a slight grin and a quite voice.
"Have a seat at the table. I'm afraid the room is a bit small for my body so I must sit on the bed."
She seemed to bare no harm and yet she still was still wearing the cloak from before.

Ven and Eve nodded warmly in unison, slight smiles also creeping onto their features. "Thank you" they said together and walked casually into the room. Of course they still remembered the man's admonition from earlier, but they knew just enough about lamias to know that what he had said happened only very rarely, if at all. So it was without fear of her as a species that they entered her room, though they still were cautious of her perception, and the caution that comes to most when meeting anyone new.

They sat down at the table, Ven again helping Eve into her chair, giving her a warm smile.
"The villagers here don't seem to trust you much." Ven said, less tactfully than he had attempted to.

It was late, and the sun had set quite some time ago. Yet, they were finally here.

Sivuden and Valyse walked up to the bar and asked about a room; several minutes and a few coins later they were referred to the room second from the last on the western end of the building. "Its one of the few open right now, sir. I'd lock yer door when you go in, and be sure to check the room for, erm..snakes.. when you enter. But before you lock your door. There are rumours about that woman next to you, ye' see..."
"We can handle it" Sivuden tersely replied. Shifting his weight slightly, he brought the hilt of his sword into view, and the already uneasy innkeeper got perceptibly uneasier at the sight of it.
"Thats a fine blade sir.. but some say blades can't kill that type. Even silver."
"This isn't silver. And there's nothing I haven't seen it unable to kill yet."
Abruptly turning on his heel, Sivuden followed Valyse to the stairs- the latter having tired of the conversation even earlier than Sivuden.

Up the stairs and down the hall, much was as was to be expected in a tavern of a remote village. Not that this was necessarily classed as a village or a town in the pairs minds, but more because they had fallen in the habit of referring to every settlement the chanced across as a village- it was simply easier, and if it offended the locals, so be it. It also made for much shorter conversations.

Coming down the hall to their room, the pair noticed a large male and a female enetering the room they had been warned against, and a large figure in the doorway quickly receding into the room to make way for the couple. As Valyse inspected the room, Sivuden stood in the shadows next to the door, quietly waiting to see if the door would close, or if the woman inside would allow him to overhear the conversation- he would be surprised if one that caused such rumours as the innkeeper had mentioned would not have noticed their coming.

As the couple walks into the lamia's room and she starts to close the door she notices the traces of someone new.
She chooses to ignore it is and leave the door cracked slightly open. She slithers across the wood floor and begins to coin upon the bed.
She lifts her self up and removes her hood reveling her dark skin allowing long black hair to fall to her back.
Her eyes glow a bright yellow as if the sun lived within her.
"Where are my manners. My name is Sylia, Sylia Sarin from the town of Corinth far to the west. The home of the Lamia clan."
She gives a slight bow and leans forward to lay upon her coils. The sound and motions of her movement gave the feeling of being
in the presence of a large snake. The light of the fireplace danced across her scales like silver.
"So. What brings you to this town? A place to lay your eggs? Or perhaps a relaxation trip? Maybe...being followed?"

Ven and Eve flinch slightly at the word "Egg", shifting slightly in their seats. Then the next word registers in their minds... "followed?" The way she had said it instantly made Eve get the impression that she knew something.
Thoughts and questions raced through Ven's mind as he tried make sense of all this, but as usual, Eve was quicker.
"Followed? No... but if so then they've done quite an impressive job hiding it from us. We don't know of any reasons someone would wan't to follow us either." Eve replied, but she still began to scan the room as Ven continued,
"No, We're just traveling, wandering, exploring, seeing the sights. And... pardon me... 'lay eggs'?"

Just outside, Sivuden's interest was perked. It was impossible to see inside, but obviously there was some inhuman creature talking to the couple- and at this time of night, that made for interesting news. As it happened, he and Valyse had come to Logan to see if there was anything of interest happening in the area, and it appeared they had happened right upon it- not that finding events of interest immediately upon arrival was anything new.

By the way this woman talked, the rumours of snakes, and the mention of eggs, obviously there was some sort of reptilian creature inside- possibly a Lamia of the noble order, supported by the slithering noises Sivuden had heard as the rooms tenant had made in making way for the couple to enter. Interesting- but the direction of the conversation was even more so. Especially since the Lamia -if that is what she was- had chosen to let him listen in.

As Sivuden's mind deduced these, Valyse finished inspecting the room for anything unwanted- be it common lice or hidden traps; though there were no known hunters out for them currently, it never hurt to be careful. Usually the traps showed up before the hunters, and it only took one mistake to be severely injured. Putting his fingers to his lips, Sivuden motioned for her to quietly close the door and wait in the room. Whether the sound of the door closing alerted the occupants next door didn't concern him in the slightest, and it might create the illusion that the tenant next door had entered and gone to sleep. Regardless, the next several minutes could prove beneficial.

Sylia quickly places her hand over her mouth with embarrassment and lets out a little laugh.
"Oops... Sorry about that. I completely forgot your human. I don't generally get much conversation
due to my...race."
As she said this she hisses slightly and he tongue dances in the air.
"Traveling sounds lovely. I am currently doing so myself. There are some really wonderful beautiful places
in this world. Have you been to the ocean city of Regale? I've heard it has a wonderful view of the ocean
....aside from....the rats."
With mention to this her eyes Eve's and they shift shift toward the door
and Ven. Sylia pulls her hood up with an eerie smile. "They generally mean no harm but they seem to just
be everywhere you don't want them."

Sivuden started slightly at the mention of Regale. That was a town in which he and Valyse had cleared a bandit infestation some generations ago- a port city is well defended, but all caravans must at some point leave town; and no matter how large the guard a big enough force can capture them safely. This is what the bandits were doing, and one fall they captured a large amount of salted meat that had been already purchased by a number of residents in some small towns nearby; and furthermore these towns were later held at ransom with demands of slavery, starvation, or the razing of the village. Having heard of this while passing through Regale, Sivuden and Valyse set out that evening to see whether they could help the situation- they returned late the next day with twenty bandits, including the ringleaders, unbound and willingly following the duo like a bunch of sheep. They proceeded to the market and sold themselves as indentured servants to various nobles for a period of ten years, and despite the number of inquiries as to what happened all that was told was that they were given three choices: indentured service amounting to their portion of the captured meat, starvation, or death.

That the death of that bandit camp had both alarmed and vexed the current area's coalition of rogue warlords hadn't concerned Sivuden or Valyse in the slightest, they had this happen regularly. There weren't even any attempts to attack them, however- nothing more than the usual highwaymen, at least- and that being nearly fifty years ago the warlords in question should have died long ago.

That the matter was coming up now made particularly interesting, and slightly concerning, news.

Knocking lightly on the door to his and Valyse's room to ensure she was alert, Sivuden knocked on the door to the furthest west room and entered brusquely without waiting for a response. Taking two quick steps into the room, and one step to his right, Sivuden glanced at the occupants. A large human with an honest air, a sharp-eyed woman with two feathers in the back of her hair, and a massive Lamia- as it was indeed a Noble Lamia as Sivuden suspected. The Lamia was, of course, unsurprised to see him, assuming they even knew the emotion of surprise- the woman seemed far less startled than the man, however. This could mean several things; could the woman be here for information on them? Was he himself being framed for hunting this couple by the Lamia? And finally, how did the Lamia know of Regale, assuming that was what was being discussed- that reference to rats seemed too aimed at Regale's particular view of bandits for his liking. It was best to prepare for the worst, however.

Adopting a nonchalant air, Sivuden's left hand lightly resting on his blade- the blade kicked slightly out of the sheathe by his thumb in a non-threatening way, but ready for quickly being drawn, Sivuden bowed slightly towards the Lamia as was the custom, right hand crossing his chest- ready to draw either the sword or go for the Kunai sheathed just below his left shoulder blade, should the couple react over-strongly to his sudden entrance. Never taking his eyes off during the bow, Sivuden spoke to the Lamia, then the couple:
Pray tell, Lady. What do you know of the fair port of Regale? I was drawn there now and again in my youth, with its bustling marketplace and its well-tended nobles. I haven't been for several decades, now, but I hear that many of the rats there have become fair citizens- surely you don't begrudge them a past they've turned against, do you?"

"And to you two, greetings. I didn't mean to disturb a peaceful conversation, but I overheard of port Regale and could not miss a chance to speak to one who had traveled so widely, especially not when accompanied by two well-met travelers such as yourselves."

All the while Sivuden kept his eyes locked on Eve's, knowing the Lamia was too cunning to try anything just yet, and instinctively marking the woman with feathers as the most likely of the couple to be the lead Hunter, if they were truly sent by the warlords to track down Valyse and himself.

Ven and Eve stared in a state somewhere between shock and confusion at this new stranger who had burst into the room. Eve had noticed Sylia's glance toward the door, so was taken less by surprise than her husband when someone had opened it, Though with the appearance of a sword she immediately began to study this mysterious figure, trying to memorize every detail of him. She let her husband do the talking, to respond to this man, this... elf! It took her quite by surprise to finally realize that this man was an elf, most elves had good relations with dragons, at least the ones they had met so far. Elves were some of the few races that dragons got along with almost perfectly, so her fear was significantly lessened, though of course, she realized, he doesn't know VenNer is a dragon.

VenNer had by now realized, with Eve's help, that Sylia's previous remarks must have been aimed more so at the elf than at them. Though questions still buzzed around his head. Was this elf following them? And if so, what for? And how far had he followed them, surely not since they started their flight a few days ago, half a continent away. In any case, the only way to find out was to ask.
("Try being courteous in kind, he is an elf, they like that.") Eve told him telepathically
("Maybe i should just tell them who we really are....") VenNer offered.
("You don't have a way to prove it, not without scaring the village away at least")
("You could prove it...")
("and leave myself vulnerable in this enclosed space, plus, what would an owl prove?")
("hmmmm...you're right. How about just hint at it?")
("Go ahead, I just wish we had brought our weapons")
("Don't remind me") VenNer finished. The entire mental exchange lasting only a few moments.

VenNer cleared his throat loudly, trying to get the elf to look at him, for he had been staring at his mate for far too long for his tastes. Yet the elf's eyes stayed frozen. Ven continued forward anyways, trying to sound courteous, but failing as his irritation at being ignored rose.
"Greetings to you too, and there is no problem, we had just begun our conversation." The elf's eyes stayed on Eve. Ven stifled a growl.
