Your Vegas featured on Duran Duran tour
Rock band Your Vegas has teamed up with Duran Duran on their North American Tour.
Your Vegas, which was named "Next Best Thing For April" by iTunes, formed in 2004 in Leeds, England. After a record deal fell through, lead singer Coyle Girelli picked up and left for for the United States.
"The band was a crossroads, so I decided to travel to New York with my acoustic and test the water," Girelli said in a recent telephone interview before their show in San Diego, Calif. May 8.
The rest of the bandmates, Mat Steel, Mark Heaton, Jon Langford and Mal Taylor soon followed and "The rest is history," Girelli said. "The rest of guys came over and we played a lot of showcases and signed a deal pretty soon after that. It moved really really quickly. It was a little bit of good luck and a really good team."
The band signed with Universal Republic records in March of 2007 and released their debut CD, A Town and Two Cities in April.
"Songs start right out of the soul," Girelli said. "There's always a strong emotion and meaning behind them. I wouldn't sing anything that didn't mean anything to me."
The band will performing most of their debut CD live. "Our live show is very quite powerful," Girelli explained. "Our songs' sound comes across live. There is a lot of passion in our songs and that comes across live. It's a 45-minute quick trip through our minds."
Your Vegas took the opening spot on the Duran Duran tour April 29.
"It's been an amazing response. The audience really seems to like our music."
"We're big fans of Duran. I've listened to their music as long as I can remember liking music. We're learning so much from watching them every night and talking to them. It's amazing their long career and passion and performance. Every night is an honor to be on tour with them."
