I see many of you are parents to furbabies. I just got a kitten about a month ago, he is about 4 months old and he kept me up all night with his scratching. Sure enough I checked him this morning and found a couple of fleas. Do any of you have any surefire ways to help get rid of them? I also have an 18 year old cat, and have never had to deal with them before. HELP!!!!

The ironic part is that I got him at a flea market. Oh how I do not like irony at times :)

oh how ironic

I have kitties but never had to get rid of fleas :( sorry..... but what a pita. I'm sure we have someone who will know the best thing! I'd say that drop on the back of the neck that they do at the vets, but I don't know for sure.

My cat is strictly an inside cat, so I've not had a problem with fleas. I do have a friend with an indoor/outdoor cat and she gets revolution from the vet to use. She hasn't had a problem that I know of.

I second the vet's Revolution. There have been too many incidences of seizures, etc from the over the counter flea meds.

Kitty is likely going to need a flea bath too....recommend that be done by the vet...kitties tend not to like baths.

Don't know about kitties, but my long haired Chi had a few when I got him. took him to the vet and they gave me oral meds to give him. The fleas were gone in 24 hours!

Good luck and post a pic when you can!!!

I don't know whether you can get it over there but the only thing that worked when Archie got fleas was a treatment called Frontline. It's the best stuff and we can only get it from the vets.

Thanks Sarah....thats just what we got from the vets. Dave has them both quarantined into opposite bathrooms (they dont get along as it is) and we are in the process of vacuuming the entire house, spraying down the woodwork and scrubbing the kitchen floor with bleach and water. I am totally paranoid and want it out for good!

We were also told that Dawn soap kills fleas and larvae so to run a comb through them and then dip in into the soap and water....then treat them with the Frontline. Seems like it is gonna be a long night around our house.

I just hope that when this is all said and done that they still love us!! LOL

Well...i think we are in the clear. I have spent the better part of 24 hours vacuuming and washing everything I own. The drops seemed to do the trick, and now I have been combing them with a flea comb and everything has been coming out dead, thank god. Luckily I have two very spoiled cats that love to be rubbed, so the flea comb was right up their ally! Here are a few pics of my babies!

Dave has been calling them itchy and scratchy, but needs to stop becasue the kitten still is having a hard time learning his name!

This is Cleo, my 18 year old cat. She does not look amused!

And this is the baby...his name is Arcadia (but we call him Cade for short). The Duranies on the board will understand the name....he is jet black and has green eyes. I thought if Nick Rhodes were a cat that is what he would look like LOL. Anyway...here he is!

He hasn't quite grown into his ears yet!!!

I'm glad you got Frontline, it's the best!

Your cats are lovely! 18 is a really good age! I laughed at the bit about Cade's ears! When Archie was a kitten one of my best friends used to cry with laughter at his whiskers and eyebrows cuz they were sooooo long! He's grown into them now lol

Baby Archie, what did my friend mean?!

Awww.....Archie is adorable...beautiful eyes!

Yes, Cleo is very healthy for her age, and still plays like a kitten most days. I am convinced she is going to outlive us all!! My sister makes fun of Cade and says he looks like a bat....such a mean Aunt! LOL

Still gorgeous! I never was much of a cat person until I married my husband and I 'inherited' Cleo....she is just so pleasant, and then I went to a flea market in May and someone was giving away these kittens and I couldn't walk away without Cade!
