Houston we have a problem....is it just me or i am crazy... on www.mog.com there is a guy name ''waydutch'' that always have something to say about every blog or post we enter.... I was reading Courtney's post and my eye tilted.... here on Courtney's post: waydutch says: Welcome! Thanks for the video. Mollifire is right, there's been several new moggers posting about Your Vegas recently. Wondering if you all knew each other before? here what he had to say to erica's post: waydutch says: Hello! Welcome to MOG. It's a great place to share and hear lots of music. Seems there's been several new members recently excited about this band. I like it when post include links, videos or red buttons (yellow buttons=bad) to hear the tunes. Like this - click here to go to Official Your Vegas web page and listen to 10 complete streamed cuts look what is had to say about Kimberly' post: waydutch says: Hi, Welcome to Mog! It's a great place to discover new and old music. Personally I like it when people post mp3's or links to hear tunes. I'll try to put one of this band, Your Vegas, which is new to me here. i have deleted what he told me, i was so mad... I want to send him a little email.... maybe i will be sarcastic.... do I or not... ***Maybe pregnacy hormones are not on my good side today.... arrrggggggg |

Yeah our efforts are definitely being noticed since we're showing up en masse in some places. Remember how the band asked us to blend in when we can, post about other bands as well? I admit I personally have not done that well, and I even got called on it on one site. A guy who had written a review questioned me and Shannon and a poster named Holly, thinking we were the same person or spammers. But you know what? He was right... I really came across that way.... I was writing in response to a review but I really didn't even reflect on his review! That was a good reminder to me that I can get "better" at posting on these sites and that I need to be more consistent, more reflective, more mindful. Otherwise, how will I be taken seriously? So I posted in response to him and was courteous and acknowledged that what I had written was in fact not very reflective of his original review. He wasn't nasty about it but he was questioning, and he was absolutely right. It's really important for us to represent well. We don't wanna look bad and we certainly don't want the band to look bad. We want our opinions to be taken seriously, so sometimes we may have to bite our tongue; I just think it's important to do at this point even if we feel frustrated. I don't think we can afford to be sarcastic, what if it alienates even one potential fan? Is that something we want to do at this point in the YV game? I saw the responses too at MOG, but I don't think he's meaning to come across nasty, in fact I didn't think he was being rude at ALL. I think some of the people who are really involved at some of those sites, like him, are just noticing and wondering what is up. THEY are there to pick up good new music and discuss and let's face it, that hasn't been our reason for showing up there like a flock of birds, even though we are finding new music while we're there. Maybe I'm wrong, but I think that's where they're coming from... we may just seem different. It's like ten peeps showing up at a party wearing the same shirt. Wouldn't you stop and stare and whisper to your friend what is up with those peeps? So I really believe we need to be really courteous and friendly at all times, and also as FACTUAL as we can be. I think the more factual we are, the less likely we are to be questioned. Validate their point as best you can as long as it's something you really can validate, and move on by adding more about the band. Give factual info reflective of your personal experiences. MALE FANS need to hear this kind of thing, hate to speak in stereotypes but it's true; guys don't care about the grey as much as we do, they want the black and white. No guy is gonna go out and buy ATATC just 'cause I said it's awesome. They want to hear the specifics. I know I'm guilty of writing some reviews out there that are a little fluffier, and I know I'm not the only one.... some of my posts are very "I love this band, they're great, can't stop listening to this album".... so of course if ten of us post like that someone's gonna be like HUH? I'm not suggesting we become Your Vegas doormats, and I'm not suggesting that our posts have all been vacuous, I'm only speaking for myself that mine have not always been top notch and maybe some of you feel the same about some of your own. I just think courteous and knowledgeable will ALWAYS help us help Your Vegas..... and I know that's what we're doing, so let's keep doing it. We have to keep our expectations high, and that's the danger of fancorps because it emphasizes quantity not quality. The site I am referring to.... read my first post as opposed to my second post. My first post:
Seriously? Ew. I sound like a f@cking commercial. I DID sound like a spam promoter! Then here's my second post, after he asked if Shannon, Holly and I were the same people or spam promoters. This time around, I reflected on what he had said. He had written a review that was not so hot, not awful but not shining. What I wrote isn't shining either, but I tried to disengage girlyfan a bit and add some things that were at least a teeny more substantial:
http://www.nwmusicblog.com/2008/01/25/is-y...gas-your-vegas/ So, anyways, that happened this week and I was glad for it, it will help me post better. Sorry to go on about it, just my opinion and I hope you'll understand where I'm coming from and give it some thought. Glad you brought it up Karen 'cause I was meaning to bring it up myself when C-Leb's comment made me think. I am not trying to criticize us as everyone is working hard and I have criticized myself most of all in all of this, so I hope you understand where I'm coming from.

That is the one bad thing about computers....you sometimes have problems telling if people are trying to be funny, sarcastic, serious or just plain asses. I am a relatively new computer user...actually just really started using back in December '07 (yea for me decided t join the world). I have to admit at first I really took stuff the wrong way, I still have a little trouble trying to decipher meanings sometimes..... I have gotten to the point I let comments (that I think are meant to be nasty) go, unless it is a full out attack...then my claws come out That is the one good thing about computers...you can just switch to a different site or link or page...or just skip through their comments. |

Well, when we feel so passionately as we all do about this band, it's hard to not get a little overzealous
. And I have to say that there can be quality as well as quantity, we just need to be clever about it. I need to post about other bands, too and I actually plan to do that on the Lollapolooza site before I even post about Your Vegas. In all honesty, I am a little nervous about posting on the L. site, because it has a completely different feel to that board than any other board I've ever been on. So, that's why I have been hesitating. The way Mog is set up, I feel like it's more of a "review/comment"blog board, and not so much of a traditional chat board. There were (and still are) no comments under certain songs in ATATC album section and I don't think there's anything wrong with posting and making comments for each song. I think the problem is that whenever we post about a song, it also goes into the "general mog review" thread and so everyone is seeing these posts about YV songs all at once and so they are getting curious as to the wave of YV posts. Just my thoughts! It's hard to not get offended , and re-reading waydutch's comments, they aren't as bad as they were last night when I was under the influence :ha:, but Karen did get a comment last night on mog that I read that made me feel :annoyed:. I think there are just going to be those people out there, but I don't think it should stop any of us from writing and posting our thoughts, comments and love . Blend...blend, though ! I need to try to make time to post about other bands, too. Hell, I hardly ever talk about DD on ddm anymore , and I really need to work on that 'cause there's no worse thing than a ticked off Duranie  !

I agree with blending in, thats why I have only posted one blog as of yet. The thing for me is that I rarely ever get into new music and new artists, so I don't really have much to blog about. I am sure I would get the ultimate rush of rude comments when I write a blog saying "Hey guys....check out 7& The Ragged Tiger by Duran Duran...Ive been rocking it since I was 5". I am sure it wouldn't go over well
Anyway...what I am saying is that I am trying to figure out a way to talk up our boys without over doing it thus turning people off to it. If there is one thing I cant stand it is people throwing stuff in my face and insisting up and down that I listen to it. My brother in law does that to me with Dave Matthews Band (which I am sorry I couldn't stand after I DID give it all a listen)....I always feel a need to discover it in my own time and not by force Subtlety is the key, and I am still trying to figure out how to achieve that in this case.....that said, I thought the comment Karen got last night was a bit uncalled for. I am prett good at reading internet tones (lol) and it just sounded plain rude to me

Awwwww, I'd comment nicely about 7&TRT, Courtney  ! I know exactly what you mean. I really don't have anything else I want to give my praises to right at this moment, either . I could talk ALL day with someone about U2, INXS, Duran (etc!), but I don't think they want to hear about it at Mog.It's a fine line we walk, I guess. That's why I SO wish that the comments about ATATC would stay under their section and then we could have a few posts directing people to their album site on the general comments section, but Mog didn't ask for my help this time ! |

Ok, didn't think that it will go that far but very happy to read all this, that's true that it makes us think about everything, but, the comments i have got last night hummmmmmmm, may I; Comments Wahiawa786 says: I'll drop by MySpace or YouTube to see what all these "Your Vegas" posts are talking about. I'm a Mac user/didn't sign up with Rhapsody along with non-U.S. Moggers (what did he mean there????? non-U.S. PLEAAAAAASSSSSEEE), so without a Red Button, these enthusiastic posts meet with a "So What?" shrug. I may change my mind, though. and here my anwser, I was lovely and NOT sarcastic but i was very polite..... Wahiawa786, thanks for constructive and so lovely comments, here is the way to discover your vegas, you can listen to their entire album at www.thesixtyone.com or go to myspace and you will be for sure changing your mind... http://www.myspace.com/karen_mtl_fraser or even better go on their web site www.yourvegasmusic.com Peace and love your vegas I am not trying to overeact, i have try to ask those people who were telling us to get a mp3 or to get the red button, i have tried to ask so many times to have HELP how to get those, so I won't be a such a (sorry for the words) pain in the ass for you experienced people on mog, and i will be able to poste without having bad comments and be a part of your family here on mog... I really want to blog about a lot of group on mog, canadian music is good too but I lost a bit of good karma with those kind of people... I will be posting again and like Julie said I will be thinking more and put the flafla thing on the side. But For sure Julie and all of you, i won't be able to send someone a bad email or a bad post just the facts that we are working all together and it will be very disrespectfull for everybody here. And it's not what we are trying to share with everybody around, love and rock and roll... but for sure i bite my tongue and hold my fingers to NOT send this kind of replies... and I WONT do it. I am talikng here beacuse ity's just between us... thanks for all the point of view... awwwwwww! we are so good people.... kissssss

Houston we have a problem....

Sorry he made you mad, Karen! Idiot! Yeah...we love Your Vegas and we mogblog, so ya better get used to it buddy!

Grrrrrrr!

I think some of the people who are really involved at some of those sites, like him, are just noticing and wondering what is up. Nope, I’m not the same person as Holly or Shannon nor a spam promoter, I just like the band. Seems as if they have their sound sitch worked out now, hope if you get to see them again you’ll find it to sound better than your previous experience. Each time I’ve seen them they seem to improve greatly, which is to be expected as a young band gains more live experience. Their acoustic sets are especially nice and I hope more people will get to hear them in that format as well. Sorry to give the impression of not reading your article, I did and I appreciate your honesty, and you’re quite right; I am new at throwing my two cents in on such sites as this and I certainly wasn’t reflective. Good point about no solos, they do perform very much as an ensemble and while there are a few very brief solos by Mat Steel on lead guitar that probably don’t truly qualify as solos, I do wonder if that will change as the band evolves. They certainly have that potential as far as ability is concerned, but I don’t know that that's their style. I guess time will tell! I’d have to say my first listen to them was my least fave show [of the times I saw them], so I hope anyone who was skeptical first time around will get out again to hear them. They have well written work, play with a lot of emotion, and damn, their drummer Mal Taylor IS a badass drummer who is a lot of fun to watch, what a corker. [the reviewer was impressed with the fact that Mal played so hard his ear thingys flew out]. Also agree that they are genuinely nice people; having met them several times, I’d have to say they would have to be among the nicest, most down-to-earth rockers out there…. Though of course I have no frame of reference whatsoever, having only ever met a very few rockers myself. So anyways… Your Vegas is my Vegas as you can tell. I hope they will continue to gain success. Thanks for your review and keep em coming.

and so they are getting curious as to the wave of YV posts.
Just my thoughts!
